We have been going to Bon Vin regularly for the last 2 years. This is our best kept secret in Darlinghurst! Not many people know about this beautiful venue; as you enter the restaurant you are immersed in an intimate francophone atmosphere. The restaurant name suggests 'good wine' but just wait til you try the wine list! The wine is very reasonably priced and we have loved almost every bottle on the wine list. Now comes the food, Chef Lisa is a modest and unassuming chef whose culinary talent speak for itself. The food is authentic and so beautifully presented on the plate that it feeds both your eyes and your stomach. She regularly updates her menu so you can guarantee that it is always seasonal and fresh. If you enjoy quality french food and wine at a reasonable price, be sure to give this place a try!

What a find! I’ve been in Sydney 4 years and this is probably the best meal I’ve had when you combine taste, presentation and atmosphere. A hidden gem down stairs behind Stanley Street, but food on a par with best French restaurants I’ve been to in London and Paris. Couldn’t choose from the menu as wanted it all but went with scallops (with Parma ham on a bed of Jerusalem artichoke purée) and husband had duck ravioli that he also said was amazing. Lamb three ways to follow was beautifully tender and tasty, and we had to share a creme brûlée as we ran out of steam and as it was our anniversary they turned it into a celebratory plate. We paired with wines and for what we had the price was good value. Loved the decor too! Fine French dining at its best!

I came with my partner and nephew for my 60th birthday on Valentine's Day. I can't give you a full run down on how fantastic the seven course special set menu was, or this review will never finish! Highlights - the duck ravioli with truffle butter, the deboned quail, charred leek and rasberry salad, and the slow roasted beef fillet with Paris mash were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and all courses beautifully paired with matching wines. The service from all the waitstaff was relaxed and efficient, and we even enjoyed a chat with the chefs during the meal. Can't recommend Bon Vin highly enough for the food, the ambience and the service, it's an absolute delight and we look forward to going back to try the a la carte menu. Do yourself a favour - just go!

How a restaurant handles chronic staff shortages can tell you a lot about the business. Our waiter advised us that half the staff were isolating with Covid and apologised in advance for any inconvenience. They are such a well-oiled and dedicated team that we didn't notice the staff shortage. Dan, Sandy and Lisa worked their socks off to ensure our first visit was a fabulous one. The clever decor not only creates great ambience but also ensures you can actually have a conversation. The food was divine! The duck ravioli entree is an absolute must - four of us shared two portions as well as our own entrees. The rest of the food was outstanding, which was extraordinary considering Lisa was virtually on her own in the kitchen. The wine is very reasonably priced and we thoroughly enjoyed the recommendations made by Dan and Sandy's wonderful service. If this is the experience on offer when Bon Vin was so short staffed, I can only imagine what it's like when they have their full team. We'll find that out as we'll definitely be back. Huge thanks to the Bon Vin team for making our dinner and birthday celebration one to remember.

My wife and I are blown away by how good Bon Vin is. The service was personal, friendly and what is required, nothing over the top but everything we needed. The location is very reachable and parking easy. The restaurant is small and intimate. BUT THE FOOD, OMG! - It's fresh and perfectly cooked with taste combinations that are simple and elegant, simply beautiful, the nicest tastes we have had in ages. So refreshing to have food that you can actually taste each and every component. We loved it & we'll be back.

Loved this little find in Surrey Hills. Such a cozy atmosphere helped by soft jazz and blues music being piped through the restaurant and of course... the absolutely delicious food. Recommend the duck ravioli as an entree. Simply delicious. Only downside was having to walk through the kitchen to get to the toilets but it did give us a chance to watch the chefs at work.

Came here to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. The service was impeccable, polite, friendly, not overbearing. The restaurant was very intimate in beautiful surroundings and with a wonderful ambience. The food was exquisitely prepared and delicious from the first bite to the last. The price was also fantastic for a 3 course meal paired with wine making it excellent value.

An online search found us this place; none of our inner city friends knew of it so we headed in tonight with a little nervousness. A terrific evening was had. The three courses were very good in taste in presentation and diversity. The venison tartare was a delight for the taste buds; the whiting and steak both very good and our friend over from NZ praised the duck. The accompanying wines were very appropriate and we could not fault the proactive and predictive service from the lead waiter despite it being a busy Saturday. A great addition to a favourite ‘hood.

Down a candlit staircase is one of Sydney’s best hidden gems, Bon Vin. We are greeted at the entrance by a most amiable maitre’d and quickly seated along a beautiful wall lined with french bouteille de vin rouge. Stunning. To add to the dramatic ambience, candelight tables are tres romantic and the menu immediately draws one in; the problem, what to choose? We start with the most incredible oysters paired with aa crisp, light coup de champagne; for mains we are wowed by the filet de bouef and duck—both are exceptional plates in presentation and showcase incredible chef talent. A deep burgundy accompanies our plat du jour, and by the end of the night we are lucky enough to meet the talented chef de cuisine and her hardworking staff behind our unforgettable evening, and they are humble, quiet and graciously accept our compliments et felicitations du chef! This place is not to be missed; I am convinced this is the best French restaurant in Sydney. Exceptionel. Will definitely be back.

We had always walked past this restaurant but never been in, and now I feel I have missed out on years of not dining here. The food was phenomenal, and the service really genuine. Our dishes were truely French, but striking the fine balance of flavour without being too rich or heavy. The matching wines we had with our dinner were stunning and the wine list was in my opinion was reasonably priced for the calibre of wine. This is a firm new local favourite!

The menu is unapologetically French but the price is very Australian. Stunning sweet scallops served with fried shaved garlic and pancetta (I think!). Tournedos Rossini with simply stunning presentation- extensive wine list all of which is sensibly priced. The only surprise - Friday night and there were spare tables - what is wrong with you Sydney?

Loved the food, the chef and the wait staff. The menu was diverse and the courses presented with such finesse and creativity possibly due to the chef’s exceptional talent. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the food and coupled the wines accordingly. Full marks to the ambience. I particularly enjoyed my lamb which appeared succulent, soft, pink, and I thought I heard it baaaa! Wonderful experience and we will return!

Access via secret door off back lane behind Stanley Street, down stairs lined with rows of bottles of wines, past enclosed kitchen into small cosy room indluding a small bar. Seated quickly with a warm welcome, advised understaffed and handed menu's and sparkling water. Was greeted by the Chef Lisa, whom took wine order. We aware totally aware that service would take a while longer than normal, fine with that. Entrees were served; Duck Ravioli was out of this world, 2 large Ravioli, cooked to perfection covered in the most delicious sauce. Chicken Parfait was tasty, well presented. Mains; lamb two ways with pomme frittes and truffle aioli was sensational! Beef two ways with Paris Mash the meat melting in the mouth, the jus was insanely tasty and the mash was perfect. Dessert; Creme Brulee fluffy creamy custard superbly cooked with the caramelised sugar top cracking well when broken open. Cheese platter for one of various cheese and crackers, yummy. Offered complimentary dessert wine. Had a great evening, well beyond expectations, amazing experience, the food and service outstanding and tha ks Chef Lisa for the chat on our way out.

Tucked away around the corner from Stanley Street and down some stairs (like you entering a secret club), is a cosy little French restaurant. You'll be welcomed like an old friend and then struggle to choose from a traditional menu where everything sounds delicious and, from our experience, is! The wine list is exceptional and the four different glasses we enjoyed were all excellent. The service from the maitre de is warm and generous and the chef also makes sure everyone is well looked after. Look forward to returning.

what a truly little gem we have found here!! It is very rare to find a restaurant such as bon vin where you are blown away by exquisite food from entree to dessert. The flavors are exceptional, the food is not pretentious and just packed with flavors and executed perfectly. The duck raviolis in entree were stunning, the duck confit was one of the best i have tasted, not too dry, not too fatty just right and infused with delicious herbs aromas, and my partner pork belly 3 ways was just perfect. The tarte tatin was delicious (better than my mom's one but i won't tell her!). If i had to find a downside it would be the side of french fries which were just ok but to be honest the main portions were pretty big and we didn't need a side at all it was just glutony. Hats off to the kitchen, you can see the passion for cooking in the food! the ambience is very cosy too. we will definitely be back!!!! Thank you for a wonderful and delicious evening
