Delicious food and coffee. A hidden gem. Creamy mushrooms, sweet potato fritters delicious. Great coffee. Accommodated us without a booking. A popular place on the weekend. Friendly and efficient service too.
As someone living in the area, I was bound to try this place. After all, from the outside, the decor looked lovely. However, my experience was disappoint. What went wrong: - too noisy and loud (even at 9.00 am in the morning) - i.e., this...is not a relaxing cafe - bacon and egg 'roll' was too spicy - ONE slice of French toast was $22 - prices in the menu were not reflected in the final bill (e.g., French toast from $22 on the menu but was then charged over $24) - Some waiters were not kind and friendly I certainly won't go back and I don't recommend this place to anyone. After all, there are plenty of nicer, more relaxing and more convenient cafes in the area.More
Really, it comes down to what you want from a cafe... Unbelievably, before it was North Spoon, under Sam's control, this place was variously a great disappointment and for several years simply a closed up shell. Now, however it is just what a busy, even...hectic at times, European flavoured Aussie cafe should be... Friendly staff who stop for a chat when there is a quiet moment - and who really work hard to shorten delays when very busy. Excellent coffee. Great food choices. The buzz of people chatting, background music and almost always NOBODY on a mobile phone (except me right now... unusually here alone as we regularly are here as a family). And, of course, there are the regular Italian Nights where suddenly North Spoon becomes a full-on trattoria - noisy, fun and great food. Prices are all fine and the 10% Sunday and Public Holiday surcharge is fair... weekend penalty rates are much more than 10%. Finally - the view - how delightful to sit in a buzzing place with absolutely everything pleasing AND to see a pretty tree view one side and Sydney Harbour Bridge out of the windows and from the sheltered outside tables. Well worth a visit especially if you are walking around the Harbour bridge area! Check times however as closing is usually about 3pm and it seems weekend mornings might need a booking for larger groups.More
Called in on a Sunday afternoon for milkshakes. Although there were patrons sitting indoors, we were told we couldn't sit in as they were getting ready to close. We ordered two take-away milkshakes and were stunned to be told $24.00. We would have happily gone...elsewhere but there were no other cafes open in the vicinity. We waited over 5 minutes before they were made and, although they tasted fine, the take away containers were far from large. We found a table outside and had finished and left before some indoor patrons who'd been there prior our arrival so I don't know why we couldn't sit inside. To add insult to injury, when we checked the receipt back at the hotel, we'd been charged an additional fee for using the debit card.More
An excellent food, especially the pasta, “Spaghetti allo Scoglio “ perfectly seasoned and bring out nice flavor of the seafood. Together with good selection of wines, nice atmosphere and best services, we had an enjoyable night.
Very glad we booked for a Sunday brunch as this cafe is very popular. The coffee was delicious and - whilst a little salty for my taste - the jaffles (toasted sandwiches) were enjoyable. Nice, light and airy restaurant.
Beautiful sunny morning in Sydney! Seated in the courtyard with a view to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Excellent service, amazing scrambled eggs with spinach and mushrooms. Coffee, perfect!
I had lunch here in a group of five. Our table was directly under a speaker that relayed the kind of 'music' designed to encourage quick turnover. I asked the waiter to turn down the volume, a request that was barely acknowledged and certainly not...implemented. I'm not sure what this place has going for it, what with ordinary food, invasive music and a cavalier attitude towards patrons.More
Have visited this cafe unfortunately. The front of house staff have a major attitude issue or are over the top fake and ingenuine when they do feel like providing professional service. They speak other languages to each other behind the counter but forget that other...Aussies are also multilingual. I have experienced them make very explicit insulting anti gay remarks between "the boys" who I think fancy themselves as being real cool and studs!! All you want them to do is make a coffee for because that is what they are paid to do. I would steer clear from this environment as openly proud and gay Australian and encourage like minded to do the same. Discrimination starts at grass roots and these are the people who perpetuate this type of mentality . I have other work colleagues that utilise this cafe's services and will ensure that they are well aware of the very unprofessional and quite frankly un-Australian culture in 2021. Guys, grow up!! Remember, you are there to service the customer, not to make fun of them with crude innuendos!More
Dear Michael, As the owners of the Northspoon, your comments are disturbing and if true, this behaviour is not condoned by us. We are an all inclusive company who pride ourselves on having a diverse staff compliment which include many races, religions and sexual preferences...More
A lively place, but difficult to have a conversation. Reasonable eats and coffee. can be crowded and uncomfortable.
How good is it to have a woinderful meal prepared for an easy cooking session at home. We have used the service twice in the current Sydney lockdown (lamb shanks first and then the gnocchi) and it has exceeded our expecations both times! Keep up...the good work guys, molto delizioso and prezzo ragionevole!! :-)More
Fabulous three course take away meal. Yummy garlic prawns. Succulent chicken, creamy polenta and delicious lemon tart
Delicious, simple and honest food, with nice wines. We have enjoyed the Italian night, and we will come back with friends.
Nice ambiance with reasonable food and drinks. Has indoor and out- door areas with distant views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Easy street parking.
