I came yesterday. Everything was amazing! We had an amazing French waiter, just like if you were in Paris ! The food was excellent! We started with a charcuterie and a snail, we loved the garlic butter and the baguette. For the main we had...the bouillabaisse, love the sauce and the French aioli, my friend had the steak and it looks outstanding ! Unfortunately we didn’t have time for desserts , but we will be back for sure to try them .More

We arrived and were greeted in a friendly French manor. Service was prompt and efficient. We ordered French onion soup as a starter. It was watery and bland, not your usual rich french fare. The bread and butter were excellent. Great palette cleanser between courses....Main course was confit of duck and my husband had the Bouillabaisse The duck was good but the Bouillabaisse was not. There were two prawns, two mussels and three small pieces of fish and some potatoes for $60. While quality not quantity is important this was just lacking in everything except for the price tag. It was very disappointing. My husband was starving an hour later it was so bad. We eat out a great deal, this was not a great experience.More

A group of old friends booked an early sitting for dinner at Bistro Papillon and enjoyed a most fabulous dining experience. French champagne to start, a mixture of entrees including escargots, chicken liver pâté, smoked trout salad and baguette. Mains were amazing too, with three...of us having slow cooked beef burgundy, cassoulet duck leg, and raclette, hot melted cheese over potatoes, ham and beef. A mix of delicious desserts plus great wines to go with each course, however wines fairly expensive, not a cheap night out.More

Just had Valentines Day dinner at Bistro Papillon. Faultless. I think this may be the best and most authentic French restaurant in Sydney. Both of the French waiters provided effortless friendly yet professional service right throughout the evening. We shared a charcuterie plate which was...well portioned and of the highest quality small goods. The accompanying baguette was as fresh and as good as any I’ve ever had in Paris. We both had the beef fillet for main course. Medium rare for myself and the often mis-executed blue for my partner. Both were cooked to perfection by chef, and nicely rounded out by the traditional frites and simple salad. Perfection. Dessert was a generously portioned Crème Brûlée for me…..would be big enough to share between 2, and the well thought out cheese platter for my date. We prefer a lighter red, and the beaujolais recommended by the waiter from the wine list ticked all the boxes without being overly expensive. The restaurant itself is perfectly lit and the eclectic decor gives the feeling of being in the heart of Paris. I can highly recommend the bistro to anyone looking for a great night out in the city, with value for money in a great space with perfect food and service. Well done.More

Lovely authentic French cuisine. Some great classics that reminded of country France. Wait staff were attentive and helpful. Disappointed with the need to add surcharges and punitive booking requirements.

We loved this place. The service by two French guys was thoughtful, humorous, friendly and attentive. We started with moules mariniaire. No cream like I would make it, but I’m not the expert. A simple dish with nice bread. Then my wife had the confit...du canard and I had the Beef Bourguignon. She loved her duck with paris mash and my dish was wonderful too. Not big, but the beef was soft and very beefy. I was in heaven. The best of the two deserts was the magnificent crème brûlée. It’s very traditional, atmospheric, and fun.More

First, I don't like restaurants with multiple sittings - 6:30 is too early and 8:30 is too late! Nevertheless we'd been here twice before so we booked for 8:30pm so we could make a night of it. We arrived at 8:30 on the dot only...to find the restaurant closed with the door locked!!!??? Tried to look inside through the window but it was too dark to make anything out. In the meantime, other guests arrived and were faced with the same predicament. Thoughts go through one's mind - where am I going to find another restaurant at this hour and without a booking? (There used to be a time when you could just turn up at a restaurant and get a table; now it's almost a privilege to be able to secure a booking.) Then, after what seemed an eternity, the door suddenly opened. The waitress explained that they lock the door between the 2 sittings so that they could make up the tables again. (I can only imagine how guests in the 1st sitting would have been marched out at 8:00pm and the door locked behind them!) Once at our table, the menu had not changed much in 3 years. The food itself was good but unremarkable - the same you would get in any french restaurant. The french waitress was not very friendly, she looked bored and gave the impression that waitressing was just a chore that she had to put up with. I'm a native french speaker and tried to see if speaking french with her would improve things but, no, she never smiled once the whole time we were there. The only other staff was the drinks waiter - he was more friendly but only came to our table a couple of times. When the bill came, we were astounded to be charged $22 for flat water!!!! Our "friendly" waitress explained that we had ordered 2 carafes of water and they were $11 each! Money-grabbing par excellence! By the way, the restaurant imposes a minimum spend of $75 per customer - not a problem if you have 3 courses but just another insight into their money-grabbing attitude - nice touch! All I can say about this restaurant is: Adieu - we won't be back!More

One of the most memorable and underhyped restaurants I’ve dined at in Sydney, truly felt like I was back in Paris, even the staff on that evening were french, their service and the atmosphere was amazing. The food was perfect and easily the best crème...brûlée I’ve ever tasted. Unable to fault any part of the experience and it’s always the first place I recommend to anyone.More

My wife and I ate here last night. It is a small and cosy restaurant dripping in french nostalgia. Absolutely beautiful and very quirky in that classic french way. The food was excellent. We had the pork Pate entree, followed by the fish stew and...wild mushroom risotto, which my wife declares is the best she has had. This place is full of eccentric corners. When you descend down the stairwell to the underground toilets the decor is quirky and a little bit kinky. We loved the Bistro and would recommend this to others.More

A petite bistro serving traditional french dishes. Warm and inviting with parisian decoration filled with old posters and photos creating the french theme. Food is delicieux enough to satisfy any Francophile. Service is commendable despite a packed lunch crowd. Reservations are highly recommended. Bon appétit!

We had a great night, wine, duck, dessert and then a cheese platter. Yes I know , not classic approach , but the attitude when we had to leave for their second sitting was to behold. I really felt like I was back in Paris...in some third rate tourist trap. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after spending 0ver $1000 in 2 hours. . They really could have been much nicer about it and still have us leave happy on time ahead Of the second sitting.More
