Our friends invited us to this Restaurant, claiming it to be one of the best seafood in Coffs.
Two of our 4 had seafood chowder at $40 per serve, this was tepid at best and very ordinary. My dish was schnapps with risotto, which was...very nice and tasty, but a very small fish. Again charge was &40, and all up, the four of us were most disappointed. Add to this high prices, I would not recommend this restaurant.More
We started with two glasses of wine, one a Vasse Felix that I had been enjoying at home yesterday. This wine bore no resemblance to the previous. It may have been a while since the bottle was opened, it had none of the solid body,...oakiness or crispness on the palate that the real one has.
The fried squid was lightly battered with a sprinkling of crushed cashews and a sweet plummy sauce. We shared between two and it was a nice beginning.
Then I had spammer crab linguine. Crab is my favourite food. A day later I can still taste garlic, even after scrubbing my tongue. Needless to say the dish wasn’t a winner. The sauce was thick with tomatoes and probably breadcrumbs, and there were small pieces of crabmeat in it, but sadly the garlic overpowered everything. The grilled prawn on the top was unnecessary and even that was hard to taste after eating the pasta first.
My best friend had the baked baby snapper from the specials menu and said it was very nice.
We went after reading many terrific reviews, so I felt that I should offer another opinion.More
One can tell Marcus is not there. The waitress was so rude after I asked her not to reach across us. She then courtsied each time she came to the table. The last straw was when she delivered a glass of wine to the table...next to us, taking a sip as she put it down. The couple looked at me, saying she is not their friend, just a waitress, but too familiar.
3 people walked out as no one came to help them.
The steak arrived and the pepper was so thick I had to scrape it off and move my food to a butter plate.
My husband's was no better.
The Owner Chef from another Restaurant was there and his steak was the same.
Telling the Manager about the waitress he said if you are rude to her she will be rude to you.
I explained I only asked her not to reach across us please. I am a customer here and come often.
"Oh the wine is Complimentry oh and do have dessert on us".
Really it all spoilt our 54th Anniversary. Very sad for the owner Marcus as this never happened when he was there.
It was like a pub on a Friday night. People in shorts and thongs others in suits and frocks - for a 5 star restaurant.
If Marcus was here I would talk to him as we have so much respect for him and his wife.
Would not recommend until Marcus is back. The young Manager said he now owns and runs Lattitude 30.More
Stopped by for lunch with my partner and daughter. Not cheap but the service was great and the food was even better. Steak was perfectly cooked and mushroom sauce was great. Fish and chips was also really good. Cool venue and a good view
Just wanted to write to recognise the staff at Latitude after another great meal there last night. My wife and I eat out regularly and have always experienced great service, friendly staff and a great atmosphere at latitude and last night was no different. If...anything it was even better.
The food at Latitude is always of high quality, the wine list has depth and the location is excellent and the staff are friendly. When things go wrong (none of us are perfect) if you raise it in a professional manner they will do their best to put things right.
I would also ask people to give restaurant staff a bit of slack. They work long and unsociable hours and most of them just want to make you happy.
The reason I raise this is because last night, whilst waiting to pay the bill at 8pm, the diner in front of me was complaining to the manager about one of the wait staff reminding them that they needed to clear the table at 8pm to allow the table to be set for the next sitting.
To the managers credit, he demonstrated great leadership. He didn’t take the easy option of saying oh I’ll have a word with the waitress. Instead he calmly and directly told the diner that the wait staff were acting on his direction and by operating a two sitting programme they need the tables for the 8pm guests.
We got the same message at our table and didn’t take offence for the simple reason that we were clearly told when you book that you have 2 hours allocated for your meal.
So go to latitude, as long as you are in at not expecting squatting rights 😉More
