We stayed at the Avenue Hotel and used the bar three times, and dinner once. Dinner at the restuarant was great - we had the steak platter for two, ribs, and steak tartare. All were delicious and prefectly cooked. We found the duck fat potatoes...tasty but not very crispy. The steak paltter was good (but expensive) to taste the different cuts of meat. And for once prdering steakl rare meant it did actually come aout rare. I've taken off one star because of the bar service. On the Tuesday after Easter (ie a normal day) I went down for a drink and wanted an Old Fashioned (whisky, bitters, sugar syrup) which is just about the simplest copcktail imagineable. The barmaid told me they weren't serving cocktails becuse they were short staffed and had run out of ingredients after Easter. Really? All this while the cocktail menu was placed on the bar in front of me, and she was making coffee orders way more complicated than my cocktail. very poor form. Plus in an almost empty bar the music was deafening - although they did turn it down when I asked.More

Great food and not too pricey for the quality of the meal. Would definitely go back again - worth booking but if you cant we were able to have the same menu in the bar area

Had an excellent grass fed scotch fillet at Marble and Grain accompanied by the very generous serving of greens. As we were living had a great chat with one of the staff regarding the meat cabinet and the special nights - need to get on...the mailing list.More

Have eaten here before. This visit comprises 2 reviews, 1 for the room service breakfast 1 morning of our stay which was of good size and beautifully cooked and presented. Top marks for that. Dinner a couple of night later was mixed. The butchers bard...to share, which we have had before, was of lesser quality with too much fatty meat, the bone marrow was tasteless (needed seasoning) and the service was intermittent except for 1 young man. There is a shortish, long grown haired young female at the bar who does a lot of the cocktails which had a perpetual sour face, didn't acknowledge customers waiting and possibly felt the job was below her wonderful skills. She should quit as she is not an asset to this business. As staff do not wear name badges cannot confirm who she was. Encountered her on 2 nights, not pleasant at all.More

As old Canberrans, we remember when Mort St was full of panel beaters and used car yards, it's now a very buzzy street full of terrific restaurants, like Marble & Grain. While not particularly cheap, it's menu is full of very reasonable offerings, mostly containing...meat. I had the chicken but others in our party had the various steaks and declared them fabulous. All meals seem to come with an unidentifiable salad; wish I'd known as I asked for a side salad, the rocket and parmesan which was nice but quite unnecessary. Wine list is good, and again, not overpriced. Would love to go here again.More

We dined as a couple and had the steak sharing plate which is ridiculous value, the service was very good and great wine would definitely return.

Steaks were cooked to perfection, but very pricey, good range of cocktails, had a great atmosphere and the staff were excellent...

This restaurant was a big disappointment. Very nice bar with professional staff. But that’s where it ended. Poor greeting and even less impressive waitress. Unhelpful and sour. Steaks were thin and tough. A pleasant enough well located properly let down by average food and more...average staff. Also breakfasted there and found exactly the same service and food as described above.More

Had dinner for two here with my husband. Booked on line and were able to secure the day and time we wanted. Arrived slightly early and enjoyed a drink at the bar before being shown to our table. Extremely attentive staff, excellent variety in the...menu and delicious food including dessert. Even enjoyed a cocktail or two. Cost more than we would normally pay for a dinner out, but we thought it was worth it. Would definitely go again and recommend.More

While we enjoy their food every time we visit, we had the worst dining experience today. An extra ingredient ( a large moth) was found in our rocket salad, and we notified our server of the situation. The server notified the manager then came back...and offered free of charge for the salad or receive a new plate of salad as if it’s not a big deal. Totally understandable such things happen in the food industry regardless of the restaurant grade. But we were very unhappy about how casually the restaurant let the untrained staff handle the matter instead of giving us an appropriate apology by the responsible manager until we persistently sought out an apology. We are very disappointed and believe that this has damaged the restaurant’s reputation.More

With a top class hotel like this, I would be very surprised if children could not be accommodated. SMS or ring the hotel to check it out.
