We heard that Taj Mahal had the best curries in Canberra and they were not wrong! We ordered entrees, naan (the best I've ever had) and three curries - everything was quick, fresh and delicious and the young gentleman who served us was lovely. He...was very accommodating and served the whole restaurant solo without missing a beat. The decor is delightfully retro - get the pink booth seating if you can! We will most definitely be back and will recommend to anyone.More

We visited as a couple on New Year’s Eve, as with many of the reviews we can only agree the food was excellent As most have commented the waiter does a remarkable job, there were very few empty seats during our visit and whilst Shannon...did his best he was just way too busy and after our initial support for this very busy individual, waiting for drinks and even a water top up actually detracted from the overall experienceMore

This place is incredible. Look no further! Food is delicious, service outstanding. I was a bit unsure initially as the staircase leads you off the main street up to this dark restaurant. But, within minutes I was at ease. The waiter (I'm sorry I don't...know your name!) deserves massive recognition - he was up and down the stairs like a yoyo serving all the tables as they had to spread everyone out with the new rules. He didn't miss a beat. He knew about all the dishes, made recommendations on what to order, how much we needed, drinks etc. Very knowledgeable and super friendly. 10/10 for the waiter! Food - so so so good! We ordered pappadums, butter chicken, punjabi lamb, garlic naan - we had out littlies with us. All I can say is GET THE NAAN. I couldn't stop eating it! The curries were delicious - home cooked flavours and made with love. Loved every part of it and can't recommend it enough.More

Delicious Indian cuisine in a unique setting. The lamb curry was a stand out with tender flavoursome lamb.

My friends and I ate at Taj Mahal last night and the food was delicious! We had butter chicken, rogan josh and a dahl and naan and roti bread. It was all very good and the service was very friendly. We had three dishes, rice,...bread, wine all for $25 a head, very reasonably priced. Thank you!More

I along with my family visited this place as someone has said in his review it as a hidden Gem. The place is calm and nice but compact. There are no much varieties of food. I bought two Chicken curries, both taste almost the same....They had only one dessert, that was Gulab Jamun. I was a bit disappointed as I expected a higher standard compared to the other two Indian Restaurants in the area. Cost is also little high comparatively as a curry dish is little over 20$ whereas in other Indian Restaurants a curry dish is ranging from 13 to 17 $.More

My wife and I met up with some friends for dinner and we picked this restaurant from the internet suggestions. We let Shannon, the waiter, make a recommendation and settled on the 4 dish banquet. The food was plentiful and good. Washed down with a...couple of beers and wine. Finished off with a coffee. Access is limited due to the steep stairs but the restaurant is comfortable.More

Service and food was fantastic. Reviews I’d read were pretty spot on. Old fashioned decor, surpassed by great food and service. Loved this place and would highly recommend. Not the spiciest Indian food I’ve eaten but very flavorsome just next time I’d order hot rather...than medium. Meat was melt in your mouth, not fatty at all. DELICIOUS! We had samosa, Bengali Chicken, Punjabi Lamb and garlic naanMore

A group (5) went for a farewell lunch as it was recommended. They rang ahead to ask for the 'manager special' lunch which is a selection the manager does for the table. I'm normally not a fan of Indian food but it was very very...good. The stairs to get there are steep (no lift/wheelchair access) and it's a relatively small space but worth it. The lassi (mango or natural) were refreshing (definitely not from a can) and the selection of food (chicken, lamb, veg and rice dishes) were fragrant and tasty with good quality meat (no thick sauces hiding cheap cuts). I would go again - which is saying something when it comes to Indian food, Good prices.More
