This restaurant is located in the Gorman House Arts Centre and the entrance is accessed through the outside Mint Garden Bar that has been built between two of the single storey buildings within the complex, Unfortunately it was raining on the Thursday night we visited so we sat inside, which was still very pleasant. We had the chef's special five course degustation menu ($90) which incorporated dishes off the a la carte menu and also included extras of an amuse bouche to start, house made bread and before dessert, a palate cleanser. The staff did advise us what courses they would serve so we could select the wine. The meal started with an amuse bouche which was followed by two dishes from the first course a la carte menu being the Vietnamese beef with lime, Thai basil and spiced peanuts as well as the scallops with carrots, pickles and nasturtiums. Courses three and four were two dishes from the Second course a la carte menu being the chicken with mountain pepper berry, apricot and broccoli as well as the kangaroo with corn, native peach and coriander. The palate cleanser was comprised of two different refreshing ice cream based lollipops. For dessert we separately had the rhubarb with sheep milk yoghurt, lemon grass and Thai basil and the honeycomb parfait with snow milk, vanilla and chocolate sorghum. All of the dishes were beautifully plated, with generous portions and lots of different flavours and textures. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish though were very full by the end of the meal. The wine list was not that extensive but more than sufficient and showcased a number of local wines. We had a Mt Majura chardonnay which was $65 for the bottle. The sparkling water was charged at $5-00 a head rather than by the bottle which is an excellent initiative. There were two staff on the floor, one gentleman and one lady, both of whom were very attentive and efficient even though the service felt very relaxed. The pacing of the dishes was very good. Would absolutely dine here again - good food at a very reasonable price.

We went for a meal at Sage on a Wednesday night instead of Christmas presents. Our server noted our request to have less meat dishes and so talked us through the options before we started. We also chose to have the wine to match. The meal started with tasters inc vichyssoise, clam and savoury profiterole. We then had seven other courses including asparagus cake, calamari tagliatelle style, chicken skewer in rosemary, barramundi, kangaroo and rhubarb dessert all of which were delicious. The service was good and friendly but a little rushed at times. The total bill was $308 for the 2 of us and well worth it as a treat!

We had dinner on a Tuesday night and it was fabulous, the service was great, our waitress was very helpful in selecting wines to suit or food and the food was exceptIonal. The barramundi and calamari delicious,,I have never had calamari like that before, subtle and careful blending of flavours using Australian bush flavours in most dishes. We had the three course a la Carte menu, and the surprise was the appetiser and pre desert dishes that were provided complimentary. It was as if the chef just enjoyed being creative and you were part of the journey. Thanks, we will definateky come back when next in Canberra.

The portions for the degustation were too small. The table next to us had to buy a plate of hot chips to satisfy their appetites. The food was nice but not fabulous, have had better dining elsewhere. Probably wouldn't recommend it. Five different staff attended us, all pretty much had a smug attitude. They kept our bottle of wine from the table and a couple of times we ran dry and had to wait. Not good.

Hi Bradley, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that the portions nor the quality of the food satisfied you and your guest on Saturday night. We are also sorry that we did not pick on your dissatisfaction on the night, if we had of I assure you we would have done whatever we could to make sure you had great experience and plenty of food. We don't like sending people home hungry and it is our policy to continue to serve dishes at no extra charge until guests are satisfied. With regard to the different staff serving your table I understand how this has left the personal connection lacking and I'll take responsibility to ensure a more personal connection be made with all guests in the future. Given that we missed the mark on this occasion I'd like to invite you back in, on us, please call my mobile on 0401 394 815 and I'll take care of everything. With Regards, Luke M

We went here for Valentine’s Day and unfortunately was a bit of a let down. I must admit the drinks were quite nice but the food was very disappointing for the price. $120 for 5 courses and we only enjoyed 2 of them. Was advertised as ‘champagne on arrival’ included in the $120 and they poured us 1/4 of a glass, about 2 mouthfuls. Overpriced for the meals we received.

Sage is average food and service disguised as a fine dining restaurant, the food on the 5 course degustation, while presented well just did not deliver flavour to a level taht you expect from restaurant of this price. The service was polite but added nothing to the experience and wine knowledge was beyond hard to find. I cannot understand their high rating for this restaurant.

Terrible all round . Not sure how people can actually think this place is a good night out. Made a booking for 830, got there on time. Told to wait until I got a message- waited half an hour never got a message but when I rocked up about to leave I was miraculously told a table was ready. 5 course Degustation meal tasted ok- but such tiny servings for a degustation if I had been the proprietor of the business I would have been absolutely embarrassed to have charged people $90 per person. I mean they are catering for adults not infants. The beef “main meal” was about 2x3cm in size. The noise level was so loud the waiters were speaking loudly trying to explain what we were My husband and I were starving by the end of the meal we ate twisties and biscuits at home- we would have hit up maccas but it was almost midnight This place needs a complete shake up, and their toilets stink too,

Had a lovely lunch with special friends here. The food is exciting: elegant, delicious and visually stunning. Several of us have complicated allergies -gluten, egg, histamine, etc. Was very well looked after by the service staff and the kitchen who went out of their way to create entire dishes to meet our needs. Thank you Maddy and the rest of the team!!

We were big fans of Sage. Our last dinner experience changed that. We arrived at 5:25 and were the first to order – degustation menu with paired wines. We were seated by the door to the toilets. Approx. every minute a blast of cold air would hit us. We had to ask for and wear blankets for the rest of the night. Despite others who had arrived after us getting their first course, our first course took 35 minutes to arrive. Most of the restaurant, now quite full, had received their second course by 6:30 but we were still waiting. We were unable to get anyone’s attention. It wasn’t until the table next to us was served that we could get their attention. I pointed out that we were the first to order and one of the last to receive the dish. No reason or apology was given but we were assured it was coming. It came at 6:40. Sage used to have delicate but complex flavours. The amuse bouche was overpowered by pickle, the tuna tartare contained raw onion and the mushroom pasta in shiitake broth was red with chilli and almost inedible. Dessert was strongly spiced. Conversely, the fish and beef cheek, although beautifully cooked, tasted quite plain. Incidentally, our last dinner in November also had the mushroom pasta and beef cheek and we had the mushroom pasta before that. We had the $90 pp paired wines. They were good and well chosen but the waiting staff descriptions of each were limited and appeared to be scripted. When I asked what the varietals were in the red wine, I was informed that the varietals were not important but the wine had not been on skins! It was meant to be a special dinner but it was a very expensive disappointment.

Fantastic service and excellent flavours! We had the tasting menu - 5 course. Great to see a restaurant genuinely interested in receiving feedback on each dish. Had the wine pairing which was perfect. Textures and flavours make the whole experience, coupled with outstanding service - thanks to Maddie our waitperson. Will he back again soon!

We dined at Sage last Friday night. We were greeted by our waitress Bec who explained to us that it was a new chef and a new menu. I would later discover that this was a cover up for what was to come. First dish was a scallop salad which was the only dish that upheld the standard you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant. The next course which we described as an asparagus Benedict (asparagus with egg whip sauce). Serving asparagus as a course within a tasting menu seemed odd to us and it missed the mark. The next course seemed like mac n cheese with a few prawns thrown in. The steak knives came out and we waited with anticipation for the wagyu that had been promised on the tasting menu we had booked. We were disappointed to discover it was duck. We have previously dined at Sage and been really impressed with the quality of food. Unfortunately, we left on Friday night feeling the complete opposite. On a positive, the service provided by Bec was fantastic. I notice that the "new menu" hasn't been updated on website or was this just a night where the chef called in sick.

Delicious and entertaining dining experience at Sage last night. Our hosts Alita (?) and Madison made a special occasion even more so with gracious service and expert knowledge. We opted for the 5 course degustation menu and premium wines and were stunned with the parings and flavour explosions that ensued. Generally service in Canberra’s restaurants can be hit and miss but on arrival Alita made us feel at home and welcomed with just the right amount of witty banter. Madison’s knowledge of the wine menu and flavour parings was incredible and we were left extremely satisfied... and very full. The portion sizes are generous for a degustation and the setting divine. Highly recommend dining at Sage!

We had such a wonderful experience at Sage. Every course was exceptional, the truffle tuna tartar was delicious and in particular the broccoli course was a highlight, which is pretty impressive for broccoli! The staff were courteous, engaging and knew their menu and wines very well. We had paired wines and got to taste some interesting local wines, including a cider that was delicious. I highly recommend Sage, despite the restrictions on number of patrons allowed in the venue, the space still felt intimate and welcoming. 10/10 will be back!

The food was truly a wonderful experience, and I also want to compliment the staff for an excellent service. We would like to reserve special thanks to Ellie, our waiter, and the maitre'd for making us feel comfortable and explaining the cooking styles of our 2-course meal. The ambiance and decor was beautiful, and we would be sure to return.

My son asked to go to Sage with his family for his 21st birthday gift and celebration. He left saying ‘Mum, I couldn’t have imagined a better night’. Staff were warm and attentive. We ordered a five course vegetarian degustation and it was simply delicious. Sage seemingly effortlessly adapted to include the gluten-free and vegan needs of some of our party members. Everyone ,vegetarian or not, left totally satisfied. At the end of the evening my son was spontaneously presented with a beautiful piece of birthday cake complete with a warm, memorable, generous speech from a delightful staff member. Thank you Sage for memories that will live well beyond the evening. A huge thanks from our family to you all.
