My wife and i were down in Canberra for the long weekend and decided to go to The Jewel of India. I can positively say it was some of the best prepared curry I have eaten and the staff were so accommodating. We loved it and will be back next time we are in town.

We visited Canberra for a weekend away and fancied a decent curry. Finding the Jewel of India on google, things looked positive for a good feed.. and we were not disappointed! The restaurant had a lovely ambience, very friendly staff and most importantly, the food was delicious. The Jewel feast was a perfect amount and selection of food for two and they were very accommodating for us being veggie too. The eggplant curry was a particular highlight and the prawn vindaloo will knock your socks off! Will definitely be visiting again next time in Canberra! Thanks for a great night!

We stumbled across Jewel of India quite by accident and had a really good Indian meal. Its nicely appointed and the staff are friendly, and you get most of the items you'd expect on a suburban Indian restaurant menu. I couldn't fault the food and the serves were a good size. The waitress warned me the vindaloo was quite spicy when I ordered and I was delighted to discover she was right. Will definitely return when next in Canberra

I am a regular reviewer. I consider myself to be fair but objective. I note fairly that most of the reviews give good feedback. But if you accept a booking that includes 6 adults and 6 children and it is an early booking that is the restaurant is less than half full you want to make sure that a the food you order is all delivered and you don't have to chase it up and on a Saturday night you say that your bar is not stocked with one but more of your spirits is not available i.e. out of stock that the real reason is you want to get people out of the restaurant that you don't take the booking. You rushed the missing dishes it was substandard for What is supposed to be a good restaurant and you think peoe are naive to believe your out of stock. This restraunt leaves me no option than to not recommend it either in this forum or the others I write to and to word of mouth which spreads well especially being a heavy public service element to Canberra. The service industry is reliant on repeat business and given the climate of recent times and the many options that are available this family all know return or recommend tour business

I chose this based on previous reviews but my recent experience was extremely disappointing. We were a family of 4, had to wait for our order to be taken, then wait a very long time for just one starter and then wait even longer for our mains. When the food finally arrived they had not even bothered to wipe the under-surface of the serving dishes, which left black stains all over the white tablecloth. The chicken pieces in the butter chicken were huge, hadn't even been chopped up. All the curry portions were very small, including the naan bread which had been cut up into ridiculously small portions so that one was forced to order more. All the curries tasted very mediocre and below par. Overall pretty disappointing, won’t bother going back.

Friendly staff and tasty Indian food make this a safe bet for Indian food hunters in Canberra. We have been there couple of times now, haven't come back disappointed. Staff are accommodating and food delicious.

I will never be coming back here. There was 1 worker who was beyond rude, he was ignoring customers and delivery people trying to pick up food. I ordered online so I went to pick it up, I also ordered one more thing as I forgot, I had a lovely lady serving me at first and then she handed me over to another man at the register, who was very rude, he made me wait 10 minutes just to put some cash in the draw and give me change and in the end never got enough money back and he knew, the lady later on came back and said did you give her money (said amount) and he continued to say “shhh” when I clearly can hear and see what was going on, as I used to work in a resturant myself, seeing this behaviour towards customers is rude and disgusting.

Excellent Indian food tucked away upstairs in the heart of Manuka precinct. Friendly hospitable and efficient staff. Good wine list and very reasonably priced. Recommend the Moppety lock and key merlot. Food was very tasty. Lamb rogan josh in particular was spicy but flavoursome also very tender. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

While much of Canberra was closed, Jewel of India provided us with a sumptuous meal. The staff were very friendly and genuinely wanted to please. The menu is vast and all the dishes we ordered were very tasty with a solid kick to them. Happy New Year!

We've been here a few times and again tonight the food was beautiful and the service was excellent as always. The menu is reasonably priced and generous proportions. Authentic Indian restaurant that really looks after the customers and certainly one of the very best restaurants in Canberra of any cuisine. Looking forward to our next visit.

I was recommended Jewel of India by a work colleague upon hearing we were travelling to Canberra. After looking at reviews across several platforms I though we were in for a good time, but how wrong I was. We had an EXCELLENT TIME!!!! The food was stunning and service impeccable despite the large number of take away orders and everyone was very hospitable. We should travel from Sydney to eat food like this more often.

We walked past this upstairs restaurant and decided to go Indian tonight. What a thrill it was. The food was simply outstanding...one of the best Indian meals we have eaten outside of Asia. Choices are standard Indian, but we thought the beef vindaloo and Kadhai prawns particularly excellent. Definitely return next trip to Canberra.

My husband and I found ourselves in Canberra on Valentine's Day without a dinner booking - oops! The hotel concierge helped us with the limited options and we decided to try this restaurant. We both love Indian food and looked forward to a nice meal of our favorites. As a caveat, it was super busy being Valentine's Day. So, I want to put that out there because perhaps on a less busy day the service might have been better. In fairness, I think it's important to point that out. The service was average on the night we were there. We could hear the staff 'barking' at each other and in the kitchen. We had to ask for one particular item 3 times before we eventually received it. We also ordered beer that didn't come (we gave up on it and left without it arriving). It was a little chaotic and the attention to detail wasn't great. The food was pretty good - I'd say 'fine'. We had butter chicken and beef vindaloo. Whilst not outstanding, it was tasty enough. We ended up with an order of poppadum's we didn't request through some sort of misunderstanding. We kept them (just easier) and they too, were fine. The accompanying chutney was quite good (mint). I don't think I'd return but in a pinch, I'd order takeaway. Like I said, the food was good.

We arrived at 2 PM as they were closing after lunch - "Sure we can do takeaway"! We had eaten here a few years ago and remembered the food. We had Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Korma and a potato Naan. Yummy Yummy, yummy! The real deal!

Friday 24th July..looking for somewhere to eat. Decided to try Jewel of India. WOW.....food was amazing. Started with chicken tikka and samosa. Both very good, good flavours on the tikka from the tandoori oven. Decided to have the goat as this dish isn’t always available. My nephew had never eaten goat and absolutely loved it. The butter chicken was also very good. Garlic and plain naan accompanied the main dishes. All in all a very enjoyable experience. Will be back on our next visit.
