This may be a small and intimate restaurant but it packs a wallop for the food it serves Chef Mamoru clearly understands the balance of taste in his dishes

We got what we wanted. Plain and simple Japanese. Sushi and sashimi, tempura, sake. There was nothing wrong with it. The staff was a bit hit and miss. Struggled to get attention a couple of times, and one time they had to send someone else to take our drinks order. Oh, and it cost a bit for all that.

The service staff was really helpful and kind, asking about the experience of the meal and providing additional assistance. The food had pretty aesthetics and tasted really good. Despite the long wait, probably due to a Saturday dinner, it was worth it. The sauces the accompanied the beef and tonkatsu were unique and really complemented the meat.

We regularly went to Iori when we lived in Canberra until 10 years ago. Visiting recently for a week we were happy to see that it was still operating and basically unchanged. We walked in without a booking at 12 midday when it opened and 10 minutes later most tables were occupied. The décor is not fancy but the staff... More

I feel for you Canberra, this is your top ranking Japanese food? The place looks the part but the food fail to reach any decency. We spent almost $100 on three dishes plus drinks for the two of us: 1) Aburi sushi - which was so over seasoned I felt sad for the fish. The whole point was for the... More

Monday night in Canberra is not easy, they tell me. Iori didn't make it easier. Poor service in many ways: a waiter who didn't listen properly, waiters who didn't keep their eyes open, patchy food. There were five of us, and we ordered the chi dori, four little dishes as a starter. The waiter brought only one for all to... More

Tucked away in the bus interchange. Doesn't have any outside appeal at all. I wouldn't have tried it had my nephew not suggested it to me. The decor is worn out but somehow adds to the vibe which is cool. Food was devine. Our waitress helped us with the menu. Was grateful she did as we had no idea. Presentation... More

Visits the place on a recommendation from a friend a few years back. Him saying it was the "best Japanese in Canberra". It was pretty good too. Last night though was disappointing to say the least. Food was dry, flavorless, and arrived at the table mildly warm in less than 2 minutes of ordering, which had me asking weather it... More
