My Husband and I went there to celebrate our wedding Anniversary there last Tuesday evening. We were able to park our car under the Realm Hotel in the underground car carpark which is free after 5.30pm, and walk across to the Burberry Hotel were the restaurant is situated. On arrival we were shown to a lovely little table for 2 people and given the menu. Then the waiter came over to us with complementary champagne glasses and wished us a happy anniversary. We thought this a very nice touch and really appreciate our champagne. I ordered the Shantung lamb belly with cashew nuts paste and shallot oil costing $$38.50 - and also a half plate of stir fried vegetables costing $10. This dish was superb, just so tasty and the stir fried vegetables finished of the dish. My Husband ordered Wok tossed king prawns with mixed peppercorn and said they were the best prawns he had ever eaten. This dish cost $40.50. We also had mineral water costing $12.00 and we brought our own favourite red wine which cost BYO $18.00. We finished up having desserts, I ordered a vanilla Panna cotta costing $13.50 and my Husband ordered a ginger sticky dessert costing $16.50. We both loved our desserts full of flavour and finished off the night perfectly. I had a a short black coffee costing $4.50 and the total bill for us both including a tip was $160.00. We really had a wonderful evening and will certainly come again. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was what we wanted, and I will recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

The restaurant is designed with a little bit of privacy in mind for diners, which is great. You have a good bit of space between tables. The overall layout is quite nice and takes you back to the 80's with the feel of the layout.
The food is very good. The handmade steamed prawn and pumpkin dumplings in prawn broth are amazing (probably the nicest dumplings I have had). Beautiful depth of flavor and the texture was just right. The roast duck and mushroom pancake is also very good. Its basically a slightly different take on peaking duck. You still get the Hoisin sauce drizzled on top, so its still familiar and comforting. For main, the twice cooked beef short rib arrived and I had to take a second look. At first it looked like pork belly, but it was beef and very nice as well. It had the beautiful texture that pork belly has when the fat is nicely rendered down after a slow cook and the sticky sweet sauce was delicious. Had two bowls of steamed white rice to eat with it (helps temper the richness of the sticky beef). The mango/sticky rice dessert was up next and it was also delicious. Puffed rice added some crunch and the mango and coconut sorbet sat on top of diced pink grapefruit. Not to sweet and some really stunning flavors. Top notch dessert to finish on. Highly recommend this restaurant and will be going back to get some more of those dumplings when we are next in Canberra.

We had the set lunch, which is all that's offered at the moment, and it was delicious. Even the standard looking sushi roll was a cut above (as it should be) the store-bought variety. The flavours were delicate and perfectly balanced rather than heavy-handed. We particularly liked the kingfish dish with miso and pickled turnip. Very tasty. The duck pancake was fine.
The ambience is stylish, and peaceful (particularly with the current social distancing in place). The service was very good, though I do prefer my wine by the glass to be poured from the bottle at the table, so I can see the bottle.

We had the $85 set menu and were not disappointed. I have missed eating high quality asian food and C&Y delivered. The restaurant interior is pleasant.. there is noise from the other dinner guests but you can still hear one another speak. Tables are spaced out nicely.
For the $20 difference to the cheaper set menu, it's worth paying to try the other dishes. No problem with doggy bagging what you can't finish. Staff were very efficient and friendly.

Had the five course set menu dinner for six for my wife’s birthday. A special occasion and the restaurant did not disappoint. Service and food were flawless.
We were particularly taken by the “Steamed medley of seafood with fermented chilli, glass noodle and shiso”. The seafood was perfectly cooked, the shellfish, prawns and fish were all succulent. It may be an ambitious undertaking but i plan to try and replicate the dish at home. A standout.
The five courses were more than enough for us.
Although the restaurant was at capacity we did not feel rushed and the wait staff were attentive to our needs..
The excellent attention to detail is a credit to the management.

Consistently high standards in both cuisine and service sets this establishment apart. For many years the dedicated staff have provided so many memorable meals for so many of us and they truly set the benchmark for others to reach.
Yesterday the lovely Rin looked after my husband and I as we enjoyed the Friday banquet lunch - $55/head for two entrees, two mains, rice and vegetables.
We BYO’d and settled in for a feast.
The highlight was the duck pancakes - not as we’ve had in the past - a new and even more delicious variation with moist and crispy duck shredded off the bone very competently by Rin, served with green papaya, cucumber and a very tasty hoi sin sauce. The five spice flavours came through and I could happily have just had that for lunch!
Other meals were sushi, rice with scallops, prawns with chilli jam sauce, pork with a sticky, tangy sauce (the pork was fantastic) and amazing fresh vegetables with a wonderful flavour.
Thank you again for providing a restaurant you can count on for genuine service and deliciously exciting meals.

I come to Canberra to go to Chairman and Yip. The service is impeccable - Dirk is a brilliant sommelier and the waiters are professional and unobtrusive. The food is the greatest you will ever eat - they have amazingly succulent seafood (I'm pescatarian) with delicious flavours that you will never forget. I dream about the food at this restaurant when I'm back in Melbourne and plan my next visit.

We had such high expectations based on the excellent reviews and website. To be honest, our experience wasn't really a one star event, it's just that I'm cranky about a few things. Firstly, a reviewer complained about the ordinary food - in particular a seafood dish that contained tomato. The answer from the restaurant was that their dish doesn't contain tomato. Well, I don't know what that tasteless, soggy red stuff was that our seafood medley was covered in, but it sure wasn't fermented chilli as per the menu's description. It was suspiciously close to tomato according to all of us.
The "wok tossed pork fillet with sweet chilli jam and five spice green pea" was the dodgiest dish I've had in years. Tasteless, tough and the peas were just a joke.
The service was friendly but totally amateurish. There was no evidence of a maitre d' or anyone senior who could have lent a bit of authority or finesse to the restaurant. I've seriously had better meals at a very ordinary suburban chinese.
This establishment markets itself as luxurious, five star, highest quality. It definitely has that potential as the decor reflects that, but the food and service definitely do not.
Please don't waste your money here - go to Raku instead. Now that will be a memorable meal for all the right reasons.

Family birthday dinner for 17 people, private room, 8 course degustation.
This restaurant has been recognised as one of the finest in Canberra for decades, and for good reason. Service is impeccable, wine list extensive, decor and setting beautiful- but of course you really come for the food. The food is AMAZING. Take the degustation menu - it is incredible value for one of the most delicious and interesting feasts you can imagine. Chinese food with a modern, clever twist.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening. We will be back.

For a staycation we went to the nearby Hotel Realm and came to first 6.00-7.30pm sitting for the fixed 8 course degustation menu. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive and the food was fantastic. The early sitting perfect for us as we like to eat quickly and be on our way, whereas those who might want to go slow and linger would be better to book into the 7.30 second sitting.
Highly recommeded!

We had been really looking forward to this dinner. I'd like to say that the staff and service were friendly and professional and that was the stand out of the night.
The food was very disappointing, some food uneatable and at $98 per head for the set menu it really wasn't worth it.
I also thought that two pork dishes on the set menu seemed strange and the lamb stomach was greasy. It was unusual that lamb was even chosen and such a cheap cut of meat.
Our hotel recommended this restaurant and looking at the reviews I thought this would be a good choice unfortunately I was wrong

Ordered the pork fillet with ginger as a main $30 and green beans with wagyu pancetta as a side $20.50. Requested no rice. I picked up on time but the food was cold, pork was tasteless and beans chewy. The tiniest portion of pork I could imagine especially for $30 with some sweet soy in a separate container. Very disappointing.
Nice phone service, lovely looking restaurant so maybe dine in service is better!

We had an excellent evening at Chairman & Yip. We had the 5 course set menu - and enjoyed all the food but a stand out was the dumplings with green tea infused soy dashi.
The service was excellent - with the staff not hovering but regularly scanning the room and appearing when required.
