We’ve been eating at Kopi

We’ve been eating at Kopi Tiams for years now and is our favourite local restaurant. The food is delicious and authentic and we always get great service. Would recommend to anyone, in fact we often take visitors and guests to Kopi’s.

Tasty food and great service

Read the reviews and were drawn to try the beef rendang. We weren’t disappointed. Great blend of spices in a rich coconut based sauce with generous pieces of melt in the mouth beef. Bustling, popular venue that was popular with families.

Good Value Malay Food

Very good Malay food at a reasonable price. Comprehensive menu with fast, friendly service. I ordered prawn wonton soup which was delicious followed by Mongolian beef also very good.

Over-hyped

I went here on Valentines Day for dinner as this place was recommended by others. Duck rice paper rolls were a good start but it went downhill from there. Salt and pepper crispy tofu was neither salty, peppery or crispy. it was soft and bland - would have been great in a curry but not as stand alone dish. Things didn't get too much better with the mains, The Laksa was generous in size but lacking in flavour, as was the chilli basil lamb. The highlight was the roti - among the best I have had. Service was also very good, especially given the very busy night. I always believe in giving places a couple of goes so I will come back to try the char kway teow, and the beef rendang. But I will not be holding my breath.

Delicious Malaysian food - had a Gluten free feast!

I had Dinner at Abell's Kopi Tiam for the first time and will make sure to return next time I am in Canberra! I wish we had such a great Malaysian Restaurant with so many Gluten free choices in Sydney. Restaurant is very popular and a small venue so a reservation is highly recommended. Team is very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable with regards to special dietary requirements. I had the Mushroom & Tofu Soup and Bali Chicken - both dishes were delicious and did agree perfectly with me. Can highly recommend this restaurant!

After a long day of sightseeing we were looking forward to a nice meal and a few drinks. Luckily we found this gem. We were seated outside under a heater which kept us warm on a chilly Canberra night. The food was absolutely delicious. We especially loved the Beef Rendang and the Battered Ling Fillets. The Tiger Beer was pretty good too. It’s not the cheapest Malaysian around but the servings are of a good size and the atmosphere is good. Friendly and helpful staff too.

Delicious!

This is probably the best Asian meal we’ve had outside of Asia. The menu offers a great variety and we six thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was excellent as was the staff. BYO with corkage or purchase on site. Parking underground opposite if you’re lucky or street parking not far away. Sit inside or out…..blankets provided if cold. A very nice first time experience.

Indonesian type food with zing and a smile

Enthusiastic, happy and fast service. Helpful recommendations. Clean, very tasty. I had the vegetable curry with Indonesian roti and black rice for dessert. These roti were soft in the middle and crispy on the outside- awesome! The curry was just the right size and full of fresh vegetables. And the black rice pudding was chewy and sweet and the best dessert ever, even though I’d never had it before and thought it was a risk. The place was packed with diners, great atmosphere inside and out, but waiters all cheerful and speedy.

Always visiting when in Canberra

The food is superb as is the place and staff. Inside or outside seating with heaters and blankets if needed. I had the white bait with chilli and basil followed by the twice cooked duck with rice and greens.

Brilliant Malaysian Food

Dropped in without a reservation and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. Great location in the Manuka restaurant strip. We enjoyed a range of starters that were a match for anything I’ve had in KL and the beef rendang was perfect. Would definitely recommend.

Had the pleasure of dining here on Friday 27 Nov. I'm coeliac which wasn't a problem at all as there is plenty of choices. Really enjoyed the duck rice rolls aswell as laksa. Great service,great food,great selection of drinks. Just great.

Over priced and over rated.

Not up to expectations. Curry was lukewarm warm and the gado gado had raw mushroom in it - never had that before. I would say this restaurant is overpriced and over rated.

Expensive and not authentic

We ordered gado gado, crispy chicken and mee goreng. Came out very quickly which made me wonder if they were already pre-made and heated up. Mee Goreng lacked flavour, the gado 2 had bottle satay sauce on top and the crispy chicken dish was underwhelming. Not very authentic in my opinion. Not going back anytime soon.

Overpriced and underwhelming.

Overpriced and underwhelming. Taste of the Assum King Prawn dish was not quite up to scratch, and the calamari, expensive at $18 for a starter size, was downright boring.
