Wonderful dining experience!

We happened to be staying nearby and were lucky to get a table. The degustation menu was amazing and great wine pairing. The owner looked after us so attentively that although the restaurant was full, we felt we dined alone. Highly recommend the experience!

I want it all!

Great restaurant! Great food, so delicious that I wanted more but could not eat anymore. Nicely decorated with very attentive and professional waiting staff that makes the visit a lot more pleasant, but the food is glorious! It was heaven on earth! For mains, we had the Rangers Valley waygu strip loin (times two), the comfit duck leg, the lamb cutlets (times two), for entrées salmon carpaccio, zucchini and fetta cheese fritters, Balmain bug, and duck ravioli and for desserts we had sekerpare (times two), chocolate mouse cake, passion fruit cheesecake, and a crème Brulée. We had a selection of cocktails that were so delicious and flavoursome and for the mains a good bottle of the 2017 Four Winds Shiraz that was the perfect match for the strip loin steaks! Parking can be an issue but if you walk a bit the food, the atmosphere and the service will make you forget about that in no time. The price is worth the visit and I have no complaints but compliments for the whole crew running the restaurant, many thanks for everything!

Wonderful food as usual

We have reviewed this restaurant previously, was surprised at the scarce recent reviews so decided to post. Have eaten at the restaurant many times over the years: consistency has been the key to their success. So too last night, a lovely meal across all the dishes. We opted for the banquet which was a very reasonable $79. The dips, zucchini puffs and prawn entrees were standouts. In the means the fish and chicken were particularly good. The wine list is very reasonably priced, we had a Spanish Tempranillo for $48 a bottle. A nice change from the offerings in other wine lists where similar quality wines are priced at $75+. Table service was a little clunky, we had to request water glasses to be refilled throughout the meal but it was a busy service and it did not detract from a very enjoyable evening. Happy to report the consistent high quality dining continues.

Something has changed, compared with our last visit about a year ago. The service was perfunctory, the choice of sparklers by the glass was limited to 2: a prosecco and an Australian. No French - perhaps a sign of the rather desperate times for hsopitality. Unfortunately there was a table next to us with four loud staffers (somewhere - they were laughing politics). Not the fault of the restuarant, I acknowledge. Entrees were OK (zuchinni flowers) and my wife's main was well-cooked. My chargrilled Cowra lamb chops were toughish and required my knife to "saw" though them. The resulting pieces required some chewing to get them down. The creme brulee was good. The ending was unexpected. I paid the bill at the table and was just about to leave a cash tip for encouragement. The service person whipped away the leather container with the receipt, before I could do this. Unsurprisingly no-one was at the door to see us out.

Wonderful food

Absolutely delicious food. But a couple of negatives. I rang in the afternoon to check the reservation which they at first had difficulty finding until I mentioned I had reserved by email several weeks prior; after some time the email was located. On ordering, it was somewhat disconcerting to be told the degustation would have to be eaten quickly (!) as the kitchen closed for hot food at 9 pm. For a 7:45 pm reservation (this seems to be the second sitting time), I think this is inappropriate. As things turned out, we managed the pace and the food was delightful but we felt a little rushed. The wine pairing with the food in the degustation was well done.

A consistently exceptional restaurant in terms of its ambience, service and particularly food. The whole Pomegranate experience is first class yet laid back leaving you relaxed and pampered while treated to food readily comparable to the very best Sydney or Melbourne restaurants. We've been here several times and it's always a great experience.

I booked the banquet for 20 to celebrate my wife's birthday. One of the family is a chef and his son an aspiring chef so standards expected were high. Everyone complimented me on my choice of a restaurant. The evening, in a fully booked restaurant, had the atmosphere of a private dinner party, the meal was excellent and the attention of our waiter was friendly, efficient and considerate.

I have been here twice, first time was great, great meals and service. But second time was with my partner who is vegetarian. Only one main vegetarian option, the eggplant. I happily ate my spatchcock while my poor other half was politely trying to 'enjoy' the flavourless mush that was given to her as a main. She for my sake tried to pretend like it was okay, but eventually I was offered some to try and it was terrible. No spices, no texture, something you might serve to someone with no teeth. We were not asked how our mains were before we were provided with the dessert menu, but i felt like they had to be informed so I did mention the eggplant dish failure when I paid, so hopefully they update the menu or the very least how the dish is put together (eg. add some spices and some nuts and do not boil the vegetables!). Due to the COVID19 we are happy to support this local business, but unfortunately due to this experience we will not return. If you are eating with vegetarians in your party, I highly recommend you look elsewhere.

We were a little disappointed by our experience here. We had been looking forward to attending our dinner, based on the restaurant’s reputation. While the food was very good, the service was, at times, very average. It was slow, inattentive and occasionally clumsy. The greeting was brusk. As one of these restaurants that now forces diners into choosing either of two sittings on Saturday night, we were forced to the later sitting to accomodate our number. Despite the slow service, we were told that we were 3 minutes—I kid you not—too late to order the banquet. We were not told of this cut off time when booking or on being seated. We felt ambushed. That said, the food was very nice. The chicken main was delicious and bountiful. Other meals looked lovely too. The wine list too was good and there was good wine to be had and not extortionist prices. I felt good about that. In the end, we all left a tad disappointed, having forked out a lot per head for what turned out to be service more in keeping with a suburban Thai restaurant.

We loved the food; the fly loved the wine

Three of us had the banquet on a beautiful Canberra evening. We jagged a fantastic spot overlooking the balcony; all the doors open to the breeze. Early into the meal, after two glasses had been poured from our bottle of chardy, we noticed that a fly was doing laps in the wine bottle. We pointed this out to our female equivalent of garçon. Understandably, this didn’t seem to be a familiar situation to our waitress. She took our bottle away and reappeared a few minutes later, with TWO bottles of the same wine - and offered us a replacement wine. Our waitress was careful to present the fly-infested bottle as evidence that it was in fact being replaced. She, or other persons unknown, had gone to the trouble of decanting some of the wine out of our replacement bottle to ensure the volume matched that of the fly’s swimming pool and didn’t contain even one extra drop. We all found this quite odd. By the way … the food was great.

The degustation menu was excellent and well priced - particularly enjoyed the salmon carpaccio and grilled mushroom and zucchini flower. Service was friendly and helpful but unobtrusive, food was served at an ideal pace. Cosy (and Covid safe) atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend!

What a fantastic restaurant! Locals brought us here, they're regulars and we can see why they love Pomegranate. Beautiful fresh food, really tasty, good serve sizes, excellent lamb cutlets!! Yum

Very bad restaurant experience

We had the worst ever restaurant experience. The waitress knocked over a glass, sending splinters of glass all over our meal and red wine over my daughter’s dress. We were made to feel it was our fault. The manager was very rude and unpleasant when we said the food would need to be removed. It really spoilt our evening. I would not recommend the restaurant.

Same old, same old

We recently found ourselves heading back to Pomegranate - having insisted a few years ago that it was over-rated and that we wouldn't rush back. And nothing's changed. To be fair, the atmosphere is good and the service was pretty good. But from a food perspective, the menu never changes and there is never the hint of a special. From the same menu that has existed for years, we ordered the duck and the spatchcock and, even though some people might say "what's the problem?", we both agreed there was just too much duck (two Marylands) and spatchcock, and not enough else not he plate to share with the protein. Sorry - but still overrated in a city with so many good dining options.

A large family gathering was

A large family gathering was the event, moderate food and a average service was the outcome. All of the table ordered the banquet exempt one which happen to be the person that had a dish of fries ”forgotten”. When raised the matter they staff politely outlined the kitchen had closed at 2pm five minutes before and continued bringing the rest of the tables mains from same said kitchen. As a compliment staff presented a plate of Turkish delights to the table with “compliments of the chef”. For the price of the banquet per cover was not the best value for the meal.
