My wife and I dined at Table by Canberra to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked ahead and selected the ‘special occasion’ drop-down option, so on arrival we were given a card and discount voucher for a future visit on arrival. A nice touch to start the evening. Then followed ten courses in the degustation menu, with an optional extra oyster course. They were all interesting and delicious, and included many flavours we hadn’t tasted before. The ingredients of each course were explained to us when they arrived at the table. The hardest part was we were asked our favourite dish, or which we preferred between two at a similar stage of the meal. How do you answer that – they were all lovely. Don’t be fooled by the unassuming street location. Once you are inside it is pleasantly laid out and comfortable. Of course, the restaurant is fine dining, so expect the food prices to reflect this. The wine prices are reasonable, both per bottle or per glass, and a lot less than some other fine dining establishments we have been to. The whole experience is well worth it for a special occasion or just to treat yourself. We will dine there again.

This is Canberra's best hidden gem. Unassuming but amazing - don't let the location fool you; it's what hidden gems are truly about. Don't talk about being a Canberra foodie unless you've been here. But not only for the foodies - anyone who wants a special meal out, for any occasion. I've eaten at all of Chef Thomas' ventures to date - Table at Wanniassa, Grill at Wanniassa, Table at Majura, Grill at Tuggeranong - all great, but this is one of the best.
There aren't many places in Canberra where you will genuinely be 'wowed' by the food, but without the pretensions that come with fine dining. Chef Thomas brings a real warmth and intimacy to not only the food but the experience. You'll be welcomed whether you're alone, with a loved one, doing a business lunch, or celebrating a special occasion. He not only knows his stuff (check out his credentials online), but delivers with personability and care for all his diners. There's always a surprise or two, as well.
Try it once - you won't regret it. Get in before it becomes over-run by foodies travelling down from the North (or even Sydney)! We are lucky to have this in our backyard.

Tuggeranong has a dearth of fine dining restaurants, in fact it only has one but when it's this good, it only needs one! The only reason I haven't rated it 5 stars is because the limitation of a chef's degustation menu only, and one with a number of 'raw' dishes, means that not everybody will walk away entirely happy, otherwise I would have been going back as soon as I could get another reservation! My partner is not a big fan of uncooked foods and whilst the dishes were obviously all safe to eat (AND DELICIOUS!!) three of the seven were uncooked and the duck was smoked. She enjoyed the duck, didn't mind her cured kingfish and scallop crudo but her first Kibbeh Nayyeh (a Lebanese/Middle Eastern dish made with uncooked meat, in this case kangaroo) ended up on my plate so became my second. I enjoyed it tremendously!
The service was friendly, enthusiastic and attentive. Presentation of every dish was precise and delivered with flair (I'd like to have a look at the kitchen to see how many staff there are out there) and the wine list was outstanding for someone like me who likes to champion Canberra Region wines, featuring some great choices and some particular favourites. Oh and the 7 course meal? More like 10 or a dozen once you include appetisers, amuse bouches, pallet cleansers, petits fours...the half dozen oysters add-on.... We'll definitely be going back, in my case as soon as possible.

This was an amazing night out. The whole experience was perfect. Ambience and soft mood music and lighting, impeccable service, and outstanding food which every dish tasted absolutely delicious. The 12 course meal left us totally full, and the yummy taste’s still lingering.
The chef came out for a chat at dessert and was very happy to receive our feedback personally. Hard to believe that he does all the prep, cooks the meals and washes the dishes himself as well. I couldn’t thank him enough for all the hard work to make my tastebuds dance with every morsel.
We will definitely be back!

Dinner was excellent - amazing food at a very reasonable price for the quality. The meal was a series of small individual plates, each wonderful. One of the guests on our table had food allergies that were accommodated with no fuss by the restaurant, with variations made to each dish for this guest as necessary. It appeared that some of the wait staff were new and still being trained up but while the wait service could have been a little more polished, service was warm, friendly and attentive.

The Pros: Incredible quality chefs menu at an even more incredible value The Cons: 20 minutes drive from the tourist centre in a not so elegant environment. Also the matching wines were not great (reds served warm) though admittedly not expensive. Nevertheless the food alone makes this a 5 star experience

Amazing food and dining has (finally!) come to Tuggeranong. A first class degustation dining experience with a complex variety of tastes and textures. All courses are beautifully presented and fully explained. Happily for me they provided a gluten free version and I never felt like I was missing out. Thank you to the chef - we’ll be back.

This was a return visit for us, with valued friends for a great celebration. We picked the coldest bleakest windiest freezing night and enjoyed the warmest, most convivial and pleasurable degustation dining experience. It was tremendous at every stage; such care had gone into providing exquisite flavours and textural contrasts, brilliant presentation, excitement in every plate. We saw such pride and enthusiasm in the faces of staff, attentive engagement and dialogue. It was a busy night yet service was well paced, never rushed nor lagging. Culinary highlights? Amazing flavours in mushroom agnolotti in shiitake broth with pepper oil. Best kangaroo ever! Yuzu prawns and pepper berry so exciting. Much flavourful fun with the orange surprise! We had a great wine progression, not paired wines, a local voignier, WA semillon, local graciano, well harmonised. For our friends, first time adventurers, their reactions were... ...wow! Exceptional experience. So that made our celebrations all the better. Thanks to Chef Thomas and all the wonderful staff.

We wanted somewhere special to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary and found it here. We had the degustation and the food was excellent though we declined the matched wines because we don't drink that much any more. Each course was explained as it was served. It was hard to pick a favourite but the lamb and the panna cotta were definitely up there. There was also a half time orange that was amazing. The staff, including the chef, were friendly but not intrusive and the service was faultless. We will definitely be back again.

We went to Table as a family to celebrate my son's graduation. The meal was fabulous and better than most other fine dining restaurants in Canberra. We had the degustation menu, and each course was a taste sensation. The service was very attentive, it was great to talk to the chef at the end of the meal, and we had an excellent evening. For those who have read the negative review, the person obviously had an ulterior motive because it is not remotely reflective of our experience. I can't wait to hear their review of the Alexander McConachie centre cafeteria when spreading false information on social media becomes a criminal offence.
All in all, I would highly recommend Table for those who love fabulous food, and even though most people wouldn't considered Tuggeranong a hub for fine dining, I believe it to be in the top 5 restaurants within Canberra.
Note that the address is Scollay Street, but the building is on the corner and the understated entrance is on Reed Street.

Amazing Table by Canberra Gourmet.
On our ‘date night’ we visited Chef Thomas Heinrich’s unique setting in the Canberra dining scene and had the opportunity to experience his 11 course ‘Tasting Menu’.
As we walked in, the ambiance of restaurant reflected the exquisite experience we were about to be given.
It was a celebration of culinary excellence and as we indulged in this extraordinary experience we had the glorious difficulty of trying to decide on which dish was ‘most’ to our liking; we couldn’t, they were all ‘ambrosia of the gods!’
I heartily recommend this gastronomical experience of what would have to be the best indulgence of a lifetime.

Thomas's restaurant is a real hidden gem. I took my parents and son for my mother's birthday and treated them to the degustation menu. We were not disappointed. Each course is well prepared and delicious. The seafood courses in particular are sublime, but my favourite had to be the smoked duck. This is one degustation menu where you will not leave feeling hungry. The chef Thomas is friendly and down to earth and came out to speak with us regularly during the evening. The unremarkable shopfront hides a very quiet and intimate dining space where we never felt crowded or overwhelmed by noise. A great dining experience.

This was a great night out. The food was excellent and they catered specifically to my son who can’t eat seafood (with advance warning of course) with dishes in the same theme as ours. The service was very good. I enjoyed the wine pairing as well. I think it is made even more special by the somewhat strange location - really an unexpected gem. Thankyou to the chef and the lovely staff.

We were not given clear details that each ticket cost was $155.
When I booked, I was booking what I thought was a table for two in a romantic location for two costing a total of $155.
I hadn't realised that it was $155 for each person.
We arrived and were told it was a booking for one only. There was no possibility to have an additional seat.
We asked if we could move the dinner to another date. No.
We asked if we gave some more money, if we could book on another date with one subsidised ticket. No.
We were willing to pay another $155 plus $100 for another date.
We could have sat outside and eaten one meal and shared it with my husband and me eating the dishes prepared for one person. We were willing to share and it was a cold night!
We found the chef to be insufferable with a bad attitude.
We don't know what his food tastes like, but his manners, behaviour and attitude do leave a lot to be desired.
I rather go to the Sage Dining rooms or elsewhere for a better fine dining experience next time!

I reviewed this previously after a fabulous dinner and gave it four stars due to the restriction of a chefs menu and a number of delicious but ‘not/uncooked’ (ceviche, crude, tartar) dishes. It probably deserved five then, it definitely deserves five now! Have now been for lunch and dinner, absolutely outstanding dining option for either, but if you enjoy a long, lazy, high quality lunch (and we’d indicated to the waitress that was what we were there for) then I cannot see how this could possibly be beaten(… maybe if they added a sea or mountain view) everything within the control of the restaurant, was spot on; friendly efficient service, comfortable relaxed atmosphere, clever versatile wine list with some excellent local choices and simply sublime food; beautifully presented, imaginative, original dishes and every one, absolutely delicious! The ‘Express Lunch’ was still 3 courses but that included three entrees and two mains, plus a tasty amuse bouche and dessert so, compared to the tasting menus of many restaurants, that was effectively 6-7… plus my party of three all ordered the oysters add-on, so our ‘Express Lunch’ lasted over 2hrs, both time and money, very well spent! Tuggeranong has ONE high-end restaurant, but as it’s this one, ONE is all it needs! I won’t go into the individual dishes as they’re about to change. They change regularly and that will keep me/us coming back. Even if you don’t live in Tuggeranong, do yourself a favour and give it a try. Ignore the fact that it’s in Tuggeranong, wherever it is located this is clearly one of Canberra’s very best restaurants.
