Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Lantern Rooms is a favourite of ours for the simple reason it is consistently excellent. Last night (Saturday) was no exception. The busiest night of the week, a full restaurant, and nobody missed a beat.
We selected from the "share" menu, for two people this meant three entrees, two mains, and complimentary rice, vegetables and dessert.
Our entrees were two dumpling dishes and Tom Yum prawns. For mains we selected the Chargrilled chicken satay with peanut sambal and, slow cooked Black Angus Rendang. Every dish was delicious: tasty, well seasoned and well presented. We had some regret for not ordering the barramundi as it looked fabulous and it received lots of positive comments from nearby tables. We resolved to order it next time.
We were seated in the atrium area. It was light and airy and very comfortable. There was good separation of tables and we would ask to be seated here again.
Staff were trademark "Chairman Group": trained to a very high standard, attentive, discrete, knowledgeable and there when you need them.
This was one of the best meals we have had for ages and we would have given six stars if the rating system allowed it.
Well done to the whole team. Two very happy customers.

Excellent and creative “Asian fusion cuisine” (not certain I have the right words to describe, all you need to know is that it is delicious) with refined meals and delicate flavours.
Degustation menu comes with two mains that are normal size servings (good if you are usually hungry after a typical degustation menu :)
Service and staff are extraordinarily competent and friendly. Adrien is definitely passionate about what he does!
Definitely recommend to the foodies out there.

An outstanding meal, beautifully balanced and superbly cooked. We opted for Banquet A. The meal began with three tasty starters: pork rolls, tom yum infused prawns and tea-smoked duck breast. Then followed tandoori chicken, Panang style beef short ribs with rice and stir fried green beans. We finished with a refreshing rice custard dessert.
The stand out dish was the smoked duck. Four delightfully presented portions of breast meat, the skin was dark and rendered of fat, the succulent meat was moist and smokey as promised in the description. It was one of the best duck dishes we have eaten. Superbly executed, a very sophisticated dish.
The service staff were outstanding: attentive, knowledgeable about the food, engaged.
A wonderful meal, can’t wait to go back.
The Chairman group continues to set very high standards across their three restaurants (Chairman and Yip, Lantern Rooms, Lilotang).

Nice restaurant with great ambience but this is not truly a Malaysian Nyonya restaurant. I’ve been to a lot of Malaysian Nyonya and this does not come close. This restaurant boasts to be fusion, and I can confirm that the food is tasty for local palates.

Had a banquet with 7 others and did not feel that there was enough interest in some dishes to justify the cost. Main barramundi fish dish lovely, but others a little pedestrian. Was a request for plant-based and seafood, but I do not think that the chef would have been greatly excited by what was produced.

We rang after 5pm and ordered the banquet for 2 for later that night. I have a nut allergy and the restaurant substituted pork belly for the chicken dish as the latter had nut traces in the coating. We collected the banquet at 7:15 as ordered and were home joining fiends from South Australia for a Skype dinner by 7:30pm. The food was still very hot and delicious. We started with the duck rolls with an accompanying dipping sauce which were hot, crisp and a great starter. Then we opened the sealed plastic bag with the beef curry and boiled potatoes and accompanied this course with the mixed vegetables blew and the rice. It had a lovey bite and was delicious, as was the next course of slow roasted pork belly in a cucumber spices and a citrus sauce. Again with the rice and vegetables which this was another triumph. We supplied the wine and sparkling water and our verdict was an excellent meal at a fabulous price. We'll certainly order from the Chairman Group, which included the Lanterne Rooms, again soon.

We came here for dinner on a Saturday night and were not really sure where it was. We had the address but nothing more. There is no signage so just looking for it as we drove along wasn’t much use.
To help you find it, here are some instructions.
The restaurant is located in the last of the new buildings in Campbell on Constitution Avenue just before you get to Blamey Crescent which goes into Campbell. There is a sign for Iskia Athletic Club. The restaurant is right next door.
As for parking, after hours you may be able to park in the HIA carpark (I am not sure what the HIA think of that), otherwise, get ready for a walk as there is no parking nearby.
Once you are there, there food is fabulous as other reviewers have said.

We were originally going to be a group of 15 and Adrian was very helpful in organising a table for us on relatively short notice. The ambiance is very nice and the food excellent; we were all very impressed. Wine list is very good, as was the service. Highly recommended.

The Lanterne Rooms is often cited as a great Canberra restaurant. I have enjoyed fabulous food at this restaurant in the past. Last night I was excited to go again and check out the Campbell venue. I have to say that I was disappointed. The food was ok but not great and not particularly interesting. I felt it was more cafe style than high quality dining. This may be the result of offering only a set menu …. …regardless, it was not Lanterne Rooms I remember!

This fusion S-E Asian restaurant is quite a gem tucked away in an unlikely location. But the atmospherics are good: noise levels OK, service excellent and generally comfortable space to be in. We found the food imaginative, but straightforward with an overall light and clean quality. The service was unfussy, but good with the waiter very helpful in talking us through the dishes.

Finally made it to Lanterne Rooms after many recommendations from friends. What a fantastic meal, we were seated in the wine room so nice and quiet. The Chef's tasting menu was an absolute delight, very clever use of different textures and flavours. Very good selection of wines by the glass. Will be back.

Food was okay... but I can think of a few places where the food is better, especially for the price. There were 2 of us and we didn't drink alcohol and the cost was still around $220. Meh. Didn't hate it, but also didn't love it. Service was as good as you would expect. Wouldn't go back.. food just not good enough for the price.

Dear Deanna E,
Thank you for taking the time for leaving us a feedback. We welcome any feedback whether is positive or negative as we always look to improve. For a bill that is worth around $220, it is quite unusual to reach this amount without having a drink or two, because our entrees are raging between $18 to $22, mains are from $29 to $40 and desserts are around $14 each. Most people would have an entree and a main, even if you have a dessert each would mean spending maximum of $80 per person, for two it will be $160, even if you had a couple of mocktails and a coffee each, the total amount should not reach $200. On the other hand, if you had a tasting menu, the cost would be similar.
If you believe if there is any error on the bill, please contact the restaurant as we are happy to rectify if it is our mistake.

The restaurant has a different ambiance - a more conventional decor than the old Lanterne Rooms in Campbell shops area. The food and service is still very good. The menu has retained some old favourites and the new dishes are pleasing. Some better external signage would be helpful.

Been there twice. Once with my boyfriend for dinner and in a group for lunch. The dinner one is much better. The oyster is pretty good and the beef is sooo tender! The only downside was we were sitting next to the door and it was a bit cold there 😅
