Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food was amazing. Started with the croquettes and the chive waffle, both were really tasty. Entrees we had the beets, which were really nice but just a bit too much on the plate for a stand alone dish. After a while the earthiness of the...beets really dominates and becomes overpowering. Needs a slightly smaller serving or serve it as a side to a main.Mains were the duck and the gnocchi and they were both perfect. Service was really average though and not what I would expect at their price point. Despite booking in advance to secure a table, we were rushed out of the place. Our dishes were being stacked on the table because we hadn’t finished the entrees and they were already serving the mains. Which meant the duck was fairly cool when we got to it. They didn’t offer fresh plates at all until we asked. The booking was for 1 hour and 45 minutes, and we were finished in about an hour. Didn’t even have time to use a restroom until it was overMore

We drove to the southern tip of the Mornington Peninsula from Melbourne to enjoy a short coastal stroll near the Cape Schanck Lighthouse. This is the second coastal lighthouse in the Australian state of Victoria and was built in 1859. Melbourne temperature dropped sharply that...morning to 18 degrees. The air was freezing cold, and I had to put on my jacket, but the atmosphere was serene and tranquil. It was breezy and as we looked across the wide expanse of the blue ocean, there was a sense of relief and calmness. The beautiful lighthouse loomed tall and stood robustly firm casting her surveillance across the ocean warning moving ships on safe maneuvers. We walked near to the cliff edge and could hear the roaring waves splashing in rhythm against the beach. We took a stroll for about 10 minutes, recharged our energy and proceeded to the Rare Hare Food and Wine restaurant for our lunch. Relieved from the cold air outside, we could feel the warm coming from the wood fired furnace burning beside us. From the restaurant, we could see the greenery terraced laced vineyard extends right in front of us. It was fine dining and culinary art appreciation. It was not a routine gastronomic topping up. I could sense the concerted effort of creativity put in into each dish by the chef. Whether the crispy pork belly or the wood fired Lebanese eggplant or the delicious fried Kingfish Crudo or the Lemon Verbena Olive oil cake, it was the quality and not the quantity that made the dish unique and marvel upon. It was such a unique dining experience. It was freezing cold once we stepped out of the restaurant. When we took a photo with the wooden Rare Hare sculpture at the front facade of the restaurant, my two hands were trembling under the intense coldness. Though a short respite here, the restaurant presented me with a memorable moment of fine dining coming from the warm of the wood fire.More

We ordered 4 dishes. The food and presentation was very good but unfortunately 3 dishes came out almost at the same time. This meant by the time we ate the slow cook beef it was cold. We felt because it was later in the day...they just wanted to get the food out. This diminished the dish considerably which was very disappointing. Next time I would order one dish at a time so you could enjoy each dish. We did pass on this information to the waitress.More

We had waited a while to visit Rare Hare and had high expectations. The menu is designed to share as are the tables. We knew we’d be sitting at communal tables but it’s on wooden benches which are quite uncomfortable and not really wide enough...to share with a big stranger. We did a wine tasting before lunch and the service in there was great. We were looking forward to having a glass with our lunch. We ordered and received our first four dishes before our wine arrived. We’d ordered the wine that we thought would match our entrees -we had finished them. We had ordered lamb as a main dish ( it was tiny for &44) and several sides. We got a dish of potatoes, 10 minutes later the lamb and some pork belly and the vegetables turned up after we’d finished so we sent them back. Service is chaos .. the food delicious when it arrives but I don’t think we’ll be back.More

Interesting food, eg; Barramundi Wings; the food suits sharing style and the tables are shared too, but don’t let that put you off. The property is pretty spectacular and the view from the restaurant is panoramic. Worth a visit.More

We usually love rare hare and booked months ago and was so excited. We went on a warm evening and was so disappointed. The staff obviously were hot and didn’t want to be there. The waitress had no knowledge of the menu when I asked...what fish sauce was (there was only 3 large dishes to know) she had no idea. Went to check with chef and came back to say a whole bunch of things, no idea what that meant. I have Ceoliac and told her to tell me if anything we were ordering couldn’t be gf. She took our order and then the first thing she bought to the table she said oh by the way that’s not gf! Food came out extremely quickly main dishes before entree ones drinks were later than many dishes. Food was basically just dumped on the table as staff literally ran around. Food was average not like it used to be. This went from our favourite restaurant to not going back.More

I’d say so, but there’s no areas for the kids to play in. They would just have to sit at the table with you. My daughters 3 and she is fine there, with here iPad..
