Jackalope Hotel's daring dining experience, Doot Doot Doot, offers contemporary, upscale dining. In the spirit of the on-site winery's single vineyard heritage, Doot Doot Doot's dishes are designed to offer a faithful expression of site, with a menu that draws on seasonal offerings from the hotel's kitchen garden and select Mornington Peninsula producers. Diners have the choice of ordering four dishes a la carte or opting for a five-course set menu spread, all with the option of matched Willow Creek Vineyard and international wines. Jackalope Hotels' Executive Chef, Guy Stanaway, adds, "the tasting menu offers a respect for the feast, contrasted by a disrespect for the familiar. Time-honoured techniques meet culinary curiosity, in dishes that are methodical yet explorative and designed to evoke a unique sense of place." Exceptional food, fabulous venue and great service!

This was our second visit and it was even better than the last. The food is exceptional and the new chef is really making his mark. Amuse Bouche were outstanding, and each dish is a work of art. What adds to the occasion is that the waiting staff know about the dishes, where the produce is from and are present without intruding. Good variety of soft drink choices - if not a bit pricey at $11. Fabulous venue and surprisingly reasonably priced menu in comparison to other fine dining in the area. Can’t wait to go back.

Doot Doot Doot offered a special home delivery service during the period of lockdown in Melbourne and the food quality and presentation was top class. At $65.00 per head plus a delivery charge it was excellent. You need to heat and prepare but it was all there and very tasty. Not as good as being in the restaurant iself but top marks for a job well done in difficult times.

Tasty - but hungry

The meal was a given 5 couses and a choice of two for mains. Every meal was beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful. However, relatively small. I had the Barrumundi as my main and it was smaller than entree size. Any reasonably sized guy would leave hungry. Not only was it really expensive, but a wines with every couse added $90 per person. Some people like this type of meal, so fair enough, but I left hungry.

I ate here two years ago and it was a great experience but this last visit was seriously disappointing., what happened? food was underwhelming and people with dietary restrictions weren’t given any replacements! so for example if you said no fish you were then Just served the same meal without the fish. So basically we ate two courses of zucchini. appalling for the price.

Couldn’t fault this restaurant. We started in the bar for a pre dinner drink and then made our way to main restaurant It was 4 courses with the only choice the main which had 2 selections. They also have oysters which we had 6 to start. They were served with 2 sauces and came with 3 other tasty morsels which aren’t included in the 4 courses The first course was a zucchini dish, then a smoked eel dish and we had lamb as a main. They were all delicious and the serves were plenty big enough We had an excellent French red to wash it down The service was also excellent

Beautiful Location but disappointing

Our Second time dining had us coincidentally on the same table but thats where the similarities ended. Dinner on Friday night seemed somewhat as a hassle with staff efficient but not outstanding and the food seemingly not as exciting as we remembered. We succumbed to the most magnificent wine list and this was the highlight. The lowlight was the end of the night request for the front desk staff to order us a taxi to which we were politely suggested that us ordering an uber would be preferable. A $1,400 night for four was not topped off well. This may have just been a very off night as our previous experience was superb.

We selected 3 courses plus other treats were supplied in between. We were going to do wine pairing but at $125 per person that was a bit too expensive. Food was good although one of the duck breast was a bit tough. Well worth trying.

Silver Anniversary Dinner

Booked online and had confirmation email and dinner menu allergens email received over last few days. We had been looking forward to our anniversary dinner tonight. Received a phone call at 12 noon to cancel saying they were closed and the online booking system had an error! No real apology, no voucher to apologise. Just a cold email follow up. Facebook feed even said it was open and posted pictures of the food! Not impressed.

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent dinner at Doot Doot Doot for my birthday on Tuesday 3rd March. The 5-course menu featured tasty dishes that started simply and increased in power & complexity all the way to our excellent duck mains. Service was excellent as was the my special bottle of old Burgundy. Thank you DDD for an excellent evening. We'll be back soon!

A five star experience

This is a fantastic restaurant located at the Jackalope Hotel. Dinner is a two or three course seasonal menu showcasing alot of local ingredients. It is set in a beautiful and artistic space with a unique ceiling of bulbs and beakers. In addition to the set three courses there are additional offerings including light snacks. The cauliflower panna cotta and the kangaroo nigiri where both particularly good. There are also petite fours to close out the meal. The wild mushroom ragu for starters was divine as was the venison for mains. The serving staff were excellent and our server Amanda was very helpful and professional. Sittings commence from 6pm and unlike many other restaurants there wasn't a time limit to the sitting to rush you out. The only slight negative was the prices of the wine. We understand fine wine can be expensive but with the glasses starting at $25 each this is frankly ridiculous and usually restaurants offer a range of wines that come at various prices.

Small portions, over cooked/steamed steak, ridiculously over priced food and wine, dirty glasses, and rude staff. Over $2100 for 6 people to leave underwhelmed and still hungry, needing to get something to eat on the way home is absolutely woeful. Feel like we were taken for a ride. Would not recommend. On a good note the establishment and location was beautiful shame about the experience 😡

With Melbourne in lockdown, I took advantage of the Doot Doot Doot at Home experience in October. The menu included Asparagus, charred broad beans and leaves, curd, pickled green almonds; Smoked eel, buttermilk, potato crisp, dill oil; Brioche and brown butter; Roast Lamb loin, glazed rib, soured onion, nettle; Garden mint tea; and Earl Grey custard, poached rhubarb, elderflower, toasted buckwheat. Staff on call were very helpful throughout the experience. Preparing the meal for myself at home highlighted the reason I like to eat out - so I don't have to stress over the cooking and the washing up! This being said, the meal was exceptional - would love to head down for the restaurant to experience the service when things open up again...

Grandiose, but a good dinner.

From the moment we walked into The Jackalope it had a bit of a stuffy vibe. But don't be mistaken, everyone was very polite and friendly, maybe it's just how I feel in these types of higher-end places. This is a fancy restaurant with a curated, seasonal menu that will be described to you as every plate is placed on the table. There are options within the set menu, and we chose a wine that paired well with what we had ordered. The food, and the presentation, were meticulous; even if the portion sizes were a bit stingy. Our waiter was knowledgable and professional, as was every one of the cast of characters who stopped by our table throughout the evening. It was tasty dinner in a modern setting with impeccable service for a price that was worth the experience. Would we go back to Doot Doot Doot? Probably not. But we also don't regret going.

Lovely atmosphere and great staff

Did not book a table in the restaurant on checking in, my fault, so staff were really helpful and flexible in finding us a spot at short notice. Sat on the chefs table so we could see the calm professionals at work. All dishes were beautifully presented, so tasty and Spencer, our server, explained each dish to us. Atmosphere just great and so glad the staff managed to find us a table. We also had the wine tasting experience and Thomas was just great with his knowledge of the wines. Bedrooms were also superb, lovely double shower which I've never seen before. What a lovely experience at Jackalope and we hope to return on out next visit to Australia

The quality of food was amazing as was the presentation. There were many appealing dishes on the menu and I am sure they would all have been as delicious as what we chose. Portion size was perfect. The service was also exceptional. Each dish was explained and their knowledge of the menu was extensive. The ambience of the restaurant made for a very enjoyable night.
