Cosy and warm, what a great traditional pub. Service friendly and attentive and the food is just really great pub grub, with some great beers. Hit the spot perfectly after a day in the hills.

We haven't visited this area for a few years but we're pleased to discover that the food at The Britannia was as good as ever. It was also fun to take part in their quiz. Service was prompt and pleasant too.

I dropped in to find the pub busy with walkers, but good friendly service. Quality down to earth home made food. Good quality real ale at the right temperature. Had the wholesome soup and chuck of wholemeal bread - ideal lunchtime stop. Great to see happy and well behaved children going unnoticed (reading, chatting, colouring, earning) in this low celling... This is a great place to stay. You will not get the sort of luxury you get with big hotels but what you do get is a very nice, clean comfortable inn in a stunning location. You can however use the facilities at the nearby Langdale centre The rooms are nice and comfortable. The inn itself is very quaint and... More

We called in here for a quick drink on our walk up from Chesters along the river bank. The pub formed our half way stopping point before walking back. It's a proper pub that appears to serve decent food and beer in quite quaint surroundings. I had a pint of the Sneck Lifter which was very good. Even on a... More

We booked the back bar to celebrate a special birthday. the staff were friendly, chatty and helpful. The food selection made it difficult for us all to choose our meals and when they came out there was lots of food envy. The drinks came from the bar and the choice of ales and beers was great. The staff really made... More

Great steak! Little and a bit quieter than the Wainwrights! But nice food. An easy walk from the langdale hotel.
