So this is my own version of Entwined in the Valley, seeing as I missed it this year. I had gone to Pinelli Estate yesterday (feel free to read the review) so onto the next item on my list. I felt very special driving into...the entrance, the day was heating up so having a shady park was lovely. The walk into the building let me have a view to delight in, underneath the arbour before approaching the door. All green and verdant with a rather unusual but appropriate child's playground further out. It's not often I have seen a (very large) wine barrel used as a cubby! (Yes, I did actually check it out and even went in, I am a big kid at heart). Seriously, if the littlies hadn't shown up, just after I got there, I would've used the slide as well!! Stopped in to have a look at the Cellar Door first, and Jamie who told me lots of info (entertaining and knowledgeable) about Sandalford. I did have a couple of tastings but didn't want to spoil my meal so made my way to the restaurant. It is a very special occasion kind of place, the old vines are prominently displayed and there is a lot of stone, slate and wood in the decor but it is very spacious and very well patronised whilst there. There is the preparation area outside of the kitchen proper which gives you an insight into some of the attention to detail that the staff has. My servers were Alys and Yu Mi who were both practised, polished but kind and friendly. I ordered the woodfired halloumi and the crudo (WA snapper)for entree. Although lightly touched by fire, it still squeaked when chewed, and while I felt the chili heat, the sweetness provided by the balsamic balances it out. Lovely dish. The crudo, arrived shortly after, very colourful on the plate. I expected more of a tang with the dressing being blood orange and chili but it was sweeter than I expected. The fennel pollen is new to me, and I am told by Yu Mi it is an indigenous ingredient. For those who don't know, it looks like bean tips and is crunchy. Very nice. By this time, the restaurant had filled with more patrons, a mix of couples mainly, and now I had people seated closer to my table, I could sneak a peek at what they ordered. All the food presented looked fabulous so returned to the menu for my next choices. Yu Mi discussed with me several options and reluctantly forgoing the fungi pizza for two desserts, I counted on her knowledge of the menu. She also showed her photos of all the desserts she had tried on the menu, so much easier to make a decision (they did all look yummy). Someone at a nearby table ordered that pizza and I got a bit fomo because it really looked good (juicy, cheesy and mushrooms glistening on top of the dough). But my pizza envy soon disappeared when the Lemon Cheesecake appeared. It didn't look anything like I expected and Alys found out the following: It was fully made, then deconstructed and whipped. Plums were marinated in cardamom, cinnamon and orange zest, then sou vide. They also make their own vanilla gelato. (See menu description). It was heavenly. I would love to describe what the second dessert was like (Giandjua Chocolate Mousse) but by this time, a food coma was on it's way, so thought I would add Sandalford to the list of places worthy of 'soon to be' second visit. (It is not a very long list). And a bonus was that the walk of to the car, was that a near neighbour was a fully restored Rolls Royce, classically shaped and coloured a deep plum. Much as I not an expert, I loved the care and love it had been shown, within and without. Little details like the covering to protect the key lock on the doors or the matching RR tyres were so special, even to someone like me. It had been a very special day.More

A fabulous experience. Based on a large vineyard there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant. The staff were so professional, polite and friendly . The menu had a large selection and the food was exceptional. You could not fault any part of the meal....We felt is was reasonably priced for the quality of food & service. One of the best meals we've had in Australia and will 100% return.More

We visited as a large family party, including three young children. The entire staff were professional helpful and went above and beyond to make us welcome. The young lady who looked after us was simply amazing. Attentive, kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. The food and...presentation was some of the best that any member of our well travelled party had previously experienced. Superb. The grounds are spectacular. The children's play area is tasteful, greatly enjoyed, not directly outside the restaurant but in view to keep an eye out for the children. Cannot recommend highly enough and we will be back.More

It is hard to find exceptional customer service in WA, but let me tell you the customer service we received at Sandalford Restaurant yesterday was exceptional. Eleni was our waitress until she went off shift. Eleni, cudos to you. You were amazing. It looked like...you wanted to be there, and we felt that your professionalism yet realness and ability to “read” the table and know what we wanted was above and beyond normal customer service. You knew the menu and wines inside out. You were natural and authentic, yet so professional as well. The rest of the staff that attended us after Eleni went off shift were excellent too. Miriam, Lincoln and Bridget, all so professional yet personable. One could tell that the training of all staff was exceptional. No one looked like they “couldn’t be bothered” and looked And felt indeed that they wanted to be there, and not just for the pay check. The food was exceptional, serving sizes excellent, timing excellent and on point, and of course the wines and Espresso Martini’s amazing. It was truly a well-rounded wonderful experience. Nothing was lacking. Thanks again… you are a shining light among a lot of dullness in the hospitality industry. You have mastered your often exceptionally difficult craft, and we can’t wait to come back.More

We've visited Sandalford a number of times over the years and the food is always top class. This visit was no exception. We started off with foccacia and oil with the warmed bread being delicious. There was a good range of mains on the menu...but one of my favourites (lamb) got the nod from me while one of my wife's favourites (seafood risotto - this one was just shellfish) got the nod from her. We foolishly ordered two sides - potatoes with parmesan, and Brussels sprouts - which meant we both ate far too much during the meal. The food was lovely. Highly recommended. Our wines were both to our tastes and we ended up purchasing some bottles of each at the adjoining cellar door after the meal. Staff were very attentive and helpful at all times. Recommended.More

Delightful upscale winery restaurant in the Swan Valley. Lovely décor inside and out. We ate indoors because it was too hot for the terrace. Very sophisticated menu, so much so that it almost seems that some of it is contrived for linguistic effect. It is...also rather expensive. Nevertheless, the food was tasty and the service efficient and pleasant. We shared a zucchini flower tempura and I followed with a very tasty red snapper at $50. Generally, everything we had was very tasty but overly contrived and complicated with too many different flavours. It was as if you recognized everything on the dish you were ordering they had failed. A serious foodie might revel in this. Me, not so much. But I don’t want to leave the impression that this was anything but an enjoyable lunch. We won’t be back; we will look for something simpler.More

Not aware of any dress code but it is a fancy restaurant. I would assume that for a Friday dinner it would be a little more dressy. For an event dinner I would contact the organisers.

Of course babies are welcomed. We sat near a table that a young couple had a little one in a high chair. The child thoroughly enjoyed the attention, and the parents were lovely.
