We eaten in Alcobaca many years since the early nineties . I can honestly say that is was the best dinning experience that my wife and I have ever had in town. Their are good eateries in town, but this is by far the best....Two large dinning rooms one on the first floor and one down stairs which was very eclectic and attractive. The service was traditional ,polite and friendly. The food was traditional regional fare, We came for the locate chicken in a pot, which to this day was the best in town. Great desserts and entrees. Very good extensive wine list. Best of all was the final price. We will be coming back a few more times since we're nearby in Sao Martinho.More

Choosing a restaurant for dinner after a long trip, we focused on Tripadvisor, and it turns out that the Michelin guide also liked the restaurant. This family-run restaurant, which is already the third generation of the Padeiro family, is really good. An excellent wine list...is made entirely of Portuguese wines, with which, alas, we are almost not familiar... First they bring appetizers. This is such a Portuguese (and not only) chip to increase the final bill. However, we were hungry and this gave us the opportunity to wait for the main dishes. They didn't cook for long. Just enough to run out of appetizers. Everything was delicious, Antonio Padeiro created a good restaurant. Let's agree with Michelin.More

Friendly and quick service, cosy setting and extensive menu. The selection of appetizers is absolutely mandatory and whatever you pick as main course will be extraordinary. Good value for money. Would return if we ever found ourselves again in the vicinity.

If it was to rate the restaurant according to the food I wouldn't give more than 2/5. We were a group of four and went there for a lunch while visiting Alcobaça monastery. The restaurant seems very popular as it was full. We were lucky...enough to get a table at the basement. The rustic ambience of the place is nice. Also, the soul of it, the staff was super nice and friendly. What I find overrated by the people writing here is the food. And I'm aware of the Portuguese cuisine and have visited multiple restaurants so I can be objective on my opinion. I tried two different dishes. Mine, which was the meat pastries with tomato rice were so average in flavor (lacking spices, salt, inspiration) and the other dish I tried from a friend of mine was tasteless! I'm really wondering if we just were so unlucky and ordered the wrong dishes. What was also annoying was the waiting time! It took fifteen minutes for somebody to come and get our order and then it took ages to be served and could also see the faces of other people waiting for their order. Of course the restaurant was full but also the personnel was enough so I cannot explain the delays in the service. What really saved our lunch was the dessert. I had the tart with hazelnuts which was croquant in texture and amazing in flavor! If only the food was equally good as their desserts my opinion would be different. Quality in ingredients etc is important and I'm sure it's in there, but the end result in your dish should be good too in order to enjoy your meal, isn't it?More

the place is lovely if you stay on the ground floor. Basement is not as lovely. The service is very correct. The food is home made and tastes delicious. Deserts are top way to end a meal. Make reservation or you may be refused.

My daughter and I had a fantastic lunch here. We arrived shortly before closing with the restaurant full of Portuguese families - but the waitresses went out of their way to prepare a table for us and did not hurry us at all. The cheese...and meat starter was sublime (as another reviewer says - a meal in itself). We also had bacalhau fish cakes and tomato rice with a bottle of house white. Food wonderful, service first class (unhurried with huge smiles) and extremely good value (EUR 40)!! Highly recommended!!More

We arrived and managed to grab probably the last unreserved table. We had the starter selection to share (was almost a meal on its own of meats, cheeses, breads, pate, olives, eggs and mushrooms). We then had the rib eye to share - it was...outstanding. Really excellent cut of meat, and excellent flavour. We were so full we could not eat dessert. Very highly recommended.More

We enjoyed our meal very much....we arrived on recommendation, and what a surprise. We ate shrimps for 2 persons, our daughter ate chicken and fries and rice, big portions, excellent wine....it was late evening and we were full so we did not ate desserts, I...still think that was a mistake :-)))) Great staff, nice atmosphere, Saturday evening, it was packed....More

We stopped here for dinner on the advise of the guesthouse we were staying. The meal was exceptional. I had the chicken in clay pot and my partner had the pork roasted in port wine. Both were well done slow roasted meat that were very...flavorful. Also we opted to keep the appetizer board the presented. It had a nice selection of house specialties. The tomato jelly was a mild sweet compliment to the cheese.More
