Told at short notice that Good Friday booking cancelled due to 'emergency maintenance'. Note previous reviewer told 'refurbishment'. No telephone cover to explain such event when I called today to confirm still shut. Why would you close over one of the busiest times of the year? Very disappointed.

We will be closed for a a couple or so weeks for maintenance AND refurbishment and everyone was informed we'll in advance enough to book elsewhere for Easter. We have no message facilities with our phone provider otherwise we would have left a message about the situation for when customers called but unfortunately it's not possible with the phone provider... We have had our booking cancelled due to 'reburbishment'? We had another large booking cancelled in January due to 'refurbishment'. Both times at short notice. They seem to be very unreliable and would not now touch them with a Barge pole!! Also they are not answering the phone although in theory they are presently open.

Thank you for your comments. We would hope most of our customers will be happy that we have made the decision to upgrade and refurbish the restaurant to give a better dining experience and we have had mostly positive responses up to now. The previous closure in January was under the previous ownership and was due to a health and... More

Had a family meal here this past weekend and despite only ringing up at 6pm that evening they managed to accommodate my table of 6 at 8pm. Warm friendly greeting on arrival and was quickly seated despite it being rather busy. Our orders were taken shortly after and the food was probably about 20 minutes later. A decent waiting time... We are always sceptical of dining on mothers day due to previous experiences in other establishments of feeling packed in the restaurant and also feeling rushed. We didn't have to worry with The Barge. We were seated efficiently and looked after really well. We appreciated that it was one of the busiest days of the year, but it didn't feel... More

We went with 40 or so other members of our car club to the barge for Fish and Chips. The pub is large and coped well with our pre-booked group who admittedly went on a Tuesday. The organisation was good and the fish and chips were tasty hot and satisfying.

We were actually on our way to Boston to visit one one in hospital. We stopped off for lunch on he way. We had never been before and had no idea what to expect. We were quickly seated, despite not having booked and the place being rather busy. There was a light menu and a standard menu. We chose a... More

We enjoyed a good lunch here. The food was reasonably price and the service acceptable. Very busy that day. The beer was well kept and good. The food was good with good size portions - not mini portions which I do not like/want.

Very nice place, staff very cheefull and efficent, food exellent, the fish was big enough to feed a family. The only problem is opening hours, you need to check before you go,also a good iidea to book as its very popular.

Five of us went for a birthday meal. 3 of us had fish, 1 gammon and 1 suet pudding. All food was hot and extremely tasty. We then had desserts. 4 of us had the raspberry white cheesecake and 1 had hot chocolate and custard. The service, staff and food was excellent. Looking forward to going again.
