Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Now called The Ethical Food Store, this was a great experience! 14 of us returning from Wilson's Prom descended on the restaurant for brunch. The coffee was excellent and the food was tasty. The service from the team was fabulous, efficient and friendly, with it...being the first day of employment for one of the staff. In all, a must stop place on the way to or from the Prom.More

Not a good experience. Hand cut chips were limp and soggy had to throw them in the bin. also the scones were so hard couldn’t eat them. The only plus was good coffee.

Coffee was cold and so was the meal that was ordered from the Breakfast menu. Very disappointed. Place was quiet and all white interior made it very stark and unwelcoming .

Visited here for lunch. Ordered a sausage roll to share to share and that was absolutely delicious! For main we ordered the stores beef burger. It came with a really unique root vegetable salad which was so flavoursome and fresh , coupled with thick cut...skin on potato wedges. The burger itself was really fresh but the beef patty was a little bland in flavour and undercooked. I was really happy that they served my favourite drink, a wet chai but it was unfortunately prepared very weak in taste. The service was amazing, and they cooked my beef patty more upon request. Overall good dining experience.More

We had an “ethical pie” which consisted of three or four minuscule bits of meat and a couple of green peas floating in a sort of pumpkin soup, all of which tasted of absolutely nothing and cost twice as much as an “unethical” pie down...the road. What a joke.More

Well another couple and us dropped in on a drive to the South Gippsland country. It was lunch time so we ordered different pies with salads, I had a chicken and leek and it was absolutely fabulous, the salad was nice and crispy with a...sauce to die for. My companions were all impressed with their meals. We sat outside under the dappled shade of a cherry blossom tree, the weather was kind. We were in the middle of a quaint garden. The Food store is now ethical and so all the food is sourced ethically. I would highly recommend trying out the place. The service is friendly but not overbearing and we found out that mum was the cook/chef.More

They have now changed the store to an ethical store where they give you organic product. Drinks where really bad due to ethical milk, menu is massively over priced for what u are getting. Truly disappointed!

I have reviewed this as average as we eat out often and compared to other establishments it does not provide the quality required compared to the price that is being asked. The is nothing wrong with the simple meals but shoestring chips a handful of...salad and some deep fried fish you are simply better off elsewhere.More

The Koonwarra Store has long been known for it's 'slow food' but today's experience took it to a new level as our Mother's Day lunch experience was dire. We booked for 1.30pm., at their suggestion. A one-hour wait for our table - outside in the...cold - was one thing, but once we were seated it was another 45 minutes before our food arrived - the starter at the same time as the main. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was so overcooked, tough and dry it was inedible. My husband had the salmon with mashed potatoes, and the potatoes were cold. The friendly waiting staff did their best but nobody seemed to be in charge. Nobody asked how our food was, if we would like dessert, coffee, etc., and not one apology for the unacceptably long wait. A complete shambles. Also ... somebody needs to be in charge of cleaning. We sat at the back corner table, near the kitchen window, and the cobwebs under the shelf were impressive. And the loo is horrible. The doors are so grimy that you want to wash your hands again after touching them. And the splashes on the wall near the wash basin have been there for far too long. It's not good enough. It's looking very, very shabby.More

We were on holidays and met a friend for parkrun along the rail trail, and afterwards went for breakfast here with other parkrun people. The coffee was fabulous, the breakfast equally good and the service was very friendly. We enjoyed sitting outside. Good atmosphere.

We spied this lovely place by chance on our way to Foster, and only later heard about its reputaion. We had a delicious little lunch, good coffee, home made pickallili and terrine,, can't remember what my husband had, but equally delicious. The waiter from Colombia...was super good, and friendly, we wish the place well and hope to return. The coffee was very good too. Tthe garden was serene and and showed off its autumn coloursl.More

We did and how we regret doing so. We used to lunch at Koonwarra Store regularly a lot of years ago before we headed North to the Tropics. Back then Koonwarra was clean and bright with gorgeous gardens. Recently we were in the area and...just had to divert and take the opportunity to lunch at Koonwarra once again. What a disappointment. It was dirty (cake fridge needed a good clean and the floors! Perhaps the current owners mistake ground in dirt as character). I know it has been a hot summer but the gardens were a shadow of their former self. So sad. Food was ordinary, everyone appeared to have shoe string chips served with everything but this may just have been coincidence, I have to say there seemed to be a fair amount of customers but perhaps they never knew Koonwarra in the glory days. Such a shame. I wish we had not gone that day as I would have preferred to remember Koonwarra as it once was.More

One of the nicest gardens of its kind to hang out in when you stop for a lovely meal and drink on your trip around Gippsland. One of Victoria’s treasures. Worth a visit and the local produce is amazing.
