The front of the tavern as a wide lawn stretching to the edge of the cliffs that overlook the sea. You can get simple meals, or simply enjoy the afternoon and wonderful view with a drink. There are several tables set up on the lawn and under the verandah.
Bottled drinks are around $9 and cocktails available for around $18.

During our visit, Rumah Tinggi was only opened on Saturday evenings for drinks and light food. Wish it was opened more regularly though, as stunning hotel with large balcony and grass area overlooking the water. We were fortunate to see dolphins swimming past too.

What a view! What a place. I loved Rumah Tinggi. My friends had earmarked it as a place we’d definitely go during the time that I was there on Christmas Island, and I am so glad they did! It is just a really great place ti sit / stand, and drink.
Whilst on the island, I also admired the birds!, and the crabs; went caving; snorkelled (a lot!); fed GT’s and saw them devour their food up-close; ran, walked - explored.
I think most people would love Rumah Tinggi.

We visited as a group of 10 for sunset drinks during our stay on Christmas Island.
I ordered 2 x glasses of Sauvignon Blanc which looked very deep yellow and tasted even worse. As this establishment is only open one day per week I noted that there were a lot of half full bottles in the fridge obviously left over from last week.
I returned the drinks to the owner stating that this wine was off. I asked for a fresh bottle to be opened at which he tipped the wines out poured 2 from a fresh bottle and charged full price without missing a beat!!!! No apology nothing.
How dare they serve bottles that have been sitting there half used for a week and expect them to be perfectly ok - it’s all about money not customers that’s for sure!!

Loved the vibe, it was like an old world colonial drinks hour. Decent menu, drinks and cocktails. Loved the music, the waves crashing in the background and the squid and salad was Island delicious

Great little spot with Million dollar views. Only opens in Saturday afternoons at 3 until about 10.
Lines can get a bit long, but get an ice bucket and 4 beers and you’ll be set.
The food is ok, but pretty light on. Drinks are reasonably priced.

Delightful spot in an ocean front palm-lined setting with a fine view and tasty bar snacks. Can't understand why it isn't open for regular evening pub-style meals, which is something in fairly short supply on the island.

This is the thing to do on Saturday afternoon / evening. Drinks & food on the balcony or the lawn and watch the sunset. Its popularsp get there esrly and be prepared to wait for your order as they were very busy.

we went here twice for dinner. Food is great and staff very friendly and helpful. Service was fast and it is a great place to have a sundowner and enjoy the ocean breeze.

we went to rum tinge 10 years ago. we were impresses by the quality of dishes. that was our favorite restaurant on the island. we made reservations often.
2018, we went back only once. the food was not good at all. lamb shank was warm outside but cold inside. grill fish was not really grilled.
we were told that the restaurant was closing down. the owner had health issue. however, new management is coming in.

The ocean view setting of this Restaurant is just incredibly picturesque and relaxing. The food is great; and the service is well above par. Great place for dinner.

I've been to this place a few times over the years and I've never had a bad experience there.
Great, friendly service and they have no problem splitting bills.
I had the steak this time around and it was perfectly cooked with a garlic sauce that was to die for!
A highly recommended eatery when visiting CI.

Went to this restaurant for some western food. Indeed, the service and food quality did not disappoint us. The portion is huge, we couldn't finish the 400g steak! The only thing that disappoint us is the price. For the 400gm steak at $50, I personally think it's ex.

The meals were lovely & staff were friendly & efficient. Although cleared plates way too quickly after the meal. Seemed like they wanted you gone in a hurry. The prices were exhorbitant, especially entres.
As it’s a holiday destination we had little wifi, we sent them a message to book the table and they never got back to us, just lucky we had a chance to call to confirm as she said she hadn’t checked the messages.
