Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After reading reviews was very happy and surprised with our food, we had battered flathead and chips, fish was very fresh and batter was perfect, light and crispy well worth the wait, will be back.

Wow, we were so looking forward to trying all Patonga has to offer. Bitterly disappointed. Fish and Chips that were stale, overcooked, with a batter that just fell off into tiny fragments and appeared to be cooked over and over. Sad to say, but this...was horrible.More

Excellent and very good value. We stopped here after walking from Ettalong, and needed a good rest and refreshment. The Pub next door had a bit of a wait (it was 12.00 and the ferry had just got in from Palm Beach) so we got...take away from this kiosk. The team were very polite, a good range Menu for Fish and Chips etc. (Quick note Breakfast Menu stops at 11.30 which is a shame as there were some good things on this for non fish eaters). Coffee available here too, $5 a large cup. Fish and Chips at $14 was very reasonable - great portion size and delicious. Complimentary Sauces - which is a nice change. Tap water available too fo those not wanting to pay for bottled water. Good selection of seats outside, that turn quickly. The food wait was about 10 minutes, which was reasonable. It was busy being School Holidays. Nice Job to the Team there - thank you.More

Should have stopped at Umina to grab a feed as the food at The Boat House take away was horrible. The 15 crumbed fish cocktails were grossly overcooked. The crumb coating was a dark brown almost black colour. The actual fish inside was ok, but...spoilt by the disgusting taste of the crumbs. The 8 potato scallops were inedible. The batter was a very pale colour and soaked in cooking oil. The bottom of the box had a layer of oil! The 2 boxes of chips were also limp and somewhat oily. Not a good taste either. Unfortunately, we had driven off to meet up with our family for lunch. The Boat House food spoilt our day out! We paid over $50 for a total disastrous fish and chips. Give it a miss.More

I will have to say the upgraded fish & chip shop is beautiful, unfortunately for us the system failed the shop (that’s modern technology) 4U. The wait was around half hour - we thought straight away - new owners have failed an amazing spot -...BUT what a come back with excellent customer service 😀 We were given a full refund for our lunch with an apology & the food was nothing less than amazing - a must try is the calamari - it melted in your mouth / the crumb is like a Panko crumb yum yum 😋 Thank youMore

The options are limited at Patonga, and unfortunately the staff at Patonga Beach Seafood seem acutely aware of this and do not offer a very pleasant experience for their patrons. The menu is limited, the product is over priced and the staff are not pleasant....You will also have to wait a ridiculously long time to experience the above. Ettalong is not that far away, take a trip to Batty’s instead.More

Checking with staff re opening hours of adjoining fish and chipperu was told when store closed F&C can be purchased at hotel for the same take away pric as pub. Staff were unaware of this so no food was ordered FG ie to confusion over...pricing. Shame as earlier I’m the week we loved our serving of flathead fillets and beers at the pub.More

Many local nursing homes/disability groups use to visit Patonga on bus outings to enjoy fish and chips. No more, the greedy Sydney Boathouse has put an end to this. A local institution used by locals for the last century has been stolen from us, shame...on you Boathouse.More

having fish and chips at Patonga was a family favourite, so I took my family along after being away for a while. What a disgrace, gone is the battered fish and hand cut chips, to be replaced by over priced processed muck. Sydney weekenders might...pay the money for this but this local will not.More

We thought we would pop down to Patonga for a spot of fish and chips , but we’re sadly disappointed when we got there to find it had been taken over by the nearby Boathouse Group. Updated decor which looks great but such disappointing food,...fish cocktails in bread crumbs 2/3 the size of a fish finger and out of a packet for $3 each and large chips ( size of a medium everywhere else) was $9. We did go on the long weekend so we’re happy to pay the surcharge ,but won’t be going back there againMore

I placed an order at the general store and after a while enquired how long it would be till ready. The man who works there (owner?) replies that if I wanted something fast I should have gone over the hill to the McDonalds. I was...speechless! When he went out the back the girl also working there said the kitchen hadn’t even put the food on yet so I asked for a muffin instead as we were in a hurry. The man came back and said he would not refund the difference. We’d previously bought two Mother’s Day gifts, two bacon and egg rolls, coffee and banana bread so we’re not bad customers. We also go there most Sundays as I do yoga around the corner. Not any more! He was just so rude, I can’t believe anyone would treat a customer like that. Cafe is connected so won’t go there from now on either. I would actively encourage people not to go to either place.More

This is one of the very well marketed boathouse restraints. Food was good and setting is lovely. A perfect destination for toad or boat trip from Sydney

Drove all the way to Patonga for a midweek lunch with my husband. Drinks are over the top expensive.. Our entrees and main meals were all delivered at the same time. When I asked why the waitress replied this is just what we do. Made...our meals unenjoyable as we were made to rush to eat before it all got cold. We won’t be back!More

Having been taken over by Boathouse this place is too expensive. Regular campers at the nearby camping area say they no longer come here because of the prices... $21 for a takeaway burger.

Great spot, I hear coffee is ok. But you can't enjoy a family fish and chips unless you own an expensive car. I think a hamburger is 19$. Fish a lot. Go to Umina and buy there and bring over to Patonga
