Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Australia day 26/1/23, we ordered their special for the day — chicken schnitzel. Wow, the chicken was cooked outside, but inside was raw. Disaster!!! Food sucks! I won’t go back here again!!!

Didn’t have many decent choices. Food looked burnt and mushroom pasta serve was tiny and tasted not the best. Didn’t like it. Best thing was view by beach

The kingfish ceviche was amazing, so fresh and a great combination of flavours in the dish. The leafy salad was zingy, and the salt and pepper squid had a nice bite from the chili. Overall it was a great quality meal. The venue itself is...very polished, you feel like you’re in Sydney’s northern beaches (not surprising given the ownership). It’s a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a drink and people watch. Friendly staff too.More

Staff very welcoming and pleasant. We had Pre dinner drinks and evening meals in the bistro for two nights last week while we stayed there last week. It was cosy with the heaters and easy to sit at a good social distance for safety during...COVID. the good was very good and reasonably priced. A special treat was being able to order coffee and the delicious cheese plater after dinner which the staff brought to us upstairs in our apartmentMore

Our encounter was way short of the normal excellent experience you come to expect from Boathouse Group venues. OK I accept that we went over Easter and that there is a no-bookings policy but the wait for a table was unbelievable, not helped by people...already in the queue inviting other large groups behind to join them, extending our wait even longer. Also, the security goons on the door were encouraging people from the queue to find others already in the venue and join them; thus jumping the queue. Once inside, we were told to go through to the back and find a space at a stone counter - none were initially available. I went back to ask for a table, we had waited for one and had as much right as anyone else for a table, she told me that we were group of two and that tables in the restaurant section were prioritised for larger groups. When I explained that we were customers like everyone else she told me "tough luck - take it or leave it". Given that we had taken the ferry over to Patonga from Palm Beach, we really had no choice but to reluctantly "take it"! When we got to our "bench", it was dirty with grease of some sort and there were were soiled napkins on the floor. The booking system for ordering meals requires use of their me&u App but there is no wi-fi service there and getting access to the App took several go's. It worked eventually. The food was average and way below normal Boathouse standards; the cracker in the Pea & Avocado Cracker was mushy, the chicken caesar was OK but heaped with excess parmesan, there was half an egg and no anchovy! My fish & chips were OK - just OK, the chips were good and the fish itself was very tasty but the batter was stale and awful - break it open and it dripped fat. The positives are the usual ones for this venue, the views are great, the recent renovations are excellent and the actual waiting staff were all very friendly, helpful and attentive. However, the aforementioned goons on the door would not be out of place in a Kings Cross nightclub - totally out of character for a family restaurant, they were rude and totally failed to keep order in the queue waiting outside. Our experience wasn't helped by a patron's dog that threw-up twice at my feet and later left an awful mess of diahorrea right in front of the kitchen serving hatch. I know that this is a problem with the owners not the Boathouse staff but it certainly didn't add to the experience and we felt strongly that the owners of the dog should have been asked to take it outside when it showed signs of being unwell earlier - the dog had been whimpering for a while and obviously looked stressed. The security goon was intimidating to a couple of people that complained. You simply don't go to a family restaurant to be treated like this, quite disgraceful really. We are locals but will never return.More

Stumbled across another The Boathouse in Patonga after accidentally finding one in Palm Beach the day before. Mid afternoon and all we wanted was a paddle pop. That section was closed but a staff member was very obliging and collecyed some for us. Beautiful location,...very peaceful, stunning views but best of all, faultless service two days in a row from two different The Boathouse locations. Well done.More

I've reviewed the Boat shed a number of times, but each year when I come up to Patonga, I cant avoid having a dinner and watching the sunset with my friends. The pub was renovated some years ago and still maintains a great aura of...fun. The menu is a little pricey than most pub grubs, but the food is really good and the tap beer is fresh. The place is always packed.More

Stunning location and eating area. Decor and fitout is beautiful. Ordered beef burgers and chip which we good quality and tasty. Also got fish cocktails and was a rip off $3 each and no kidding some were the size of you pinkie finger and all...crumbs barely any fish. Calamari was ok but not worth to $3 per piece. Won’t rush back for fish and chips.More

It was 4pm and we had not had lunch so thought we would support local businesses and eat out, have a late lunch /early dinner to avoid the crowds and sit outside to keep a social distance with COVID-19. We checked the web-site before driving...to Patonga and it said the hotel was open and serving food right through the afternoon. When we got there only the take-away was open. And the young staff were telling customers they would probably close at 5pm as that would mean they had to do an 11 hour day. We were also told that the restaurant and bar were closed as they would only be able to have two staff working in there due to COVID-19? Given we were hungry we chose from the limited menu a Fisherman's Basket for $21 rather than plain fish & chips and got our wine in a cardboard coffee cup. There were dirty tables everywhere. And there is a 1.5% surcharge for using a credit card - who doesn't, just build it into the price. When we finally got our food it was almost inedible as the oil had not been changed and it hung thick on the food. For $21 there was a very small piece of fish, 2 crumbed frozen prawns and two calamari rings. We ate less than half, finished our drinks and left. It's a lovely building in a beautiful setting, with staff in trendy uniforms and well labelled takeaway food boxes. So why is there no effort with the food and service? Why are you treating your customers so poorly? We saw numerous people arrive and leave as no one knew you weren't going to be open - update your web site. We are hearing in the media so much about the need to support the hospitality industry during these tough times and yet The Boathouse is making absolutely no effort to look after your customers. You don't deserve to get hand-outs from the government when it is being so badly managed. So many Hospitality staff are losing jobs, yet this was so obviously understaffed that those that were working we're tired and just wanted to close. For this reason we did not complain when we got our meal and just left. We won't be back while under the current ownership.More

Beautifully appointed apartment in a nautical style with super comfy bedding spacious shower and pub style restaurant on site. Situated in sleepy Pretty Patonga where there is little to do but go on bush walks to gaze at stunning views, this is a secret gem....The boutique hotel has fantastic staff, always keen to please and have a chat, very welcoming and smiling at all occasions. Kylie , James and the lovely blue-eyed blonde at the front area were standouts and a credit to the company. We enjoyed the meals, the vibe and the location. Will be returning with our yacht to enjoy lunch with friends.More

I have been to the Boat House at Palm Beach and Balmoral Beach and they are all great. This is a bit different in that it is the melding of a fish and chip shop with a pub. Service is good, scenery is great and...there is lots of shadeMore
