We visited for a family meal before everyone had to go back to work. Great atmosphere in true old world surroundings. Friendly and relaxing welcome. Friendly and helpful waiting staff. Tables nicely spaced. The food was excellent and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We will return! Highly recommended.

Myself and my Grand Daughter had a very tasty well cooked meal and an enjoyable evening this week at the Griffin. Staff were friendly and professional and we enjoyed comfortable clean surroundings. We have been to the Griffin many times now and have never been disappointed so will be returning soon.

We haven't been to The Griffin for a few years due to several changes in ownership, and not very good experiences, but we decided on a whim to "give it a go" as we knew it had once again changed hands. We were really pleased with our main meals and desserts which were piping hot, plentiful and delicious and the... More

We decided to stop at The Griffin on our way home from a wind swept walk along Maldon Prom and we craved a decent Sunday Roast. The welcome was friendly and warm, a decent range of draft beers and lucky room in the restaurant. We both ordered the roast beef, it soon arrived with a large selection of vegetables and... More

We enjoyed our food but where we ate was so underheated we ended up sitting in our coats. Staff told us that the heating was on (rad was barely warm) and that as a listed building installing better glazing was too pricey. A small fan heater would have made a massive difference, encouraged us to order more and made it... More

We were trying to book over the phone for about a week before our visit but couldn't ever get through on the phone so my partner emailed to book which we got a response but realised we hadn't sent a time so we emailed again and received no confirmation. After calling and emailing more still no response until finally we... More

After 3 hours Christmas shopping in Chelmsford we stopped here about 4pm on our way home, too tired to cook at home. We had previously visited several times before the new owners took over and always enjoyed it. Other than the menu it hasn't really changed inside and the views across to Chelmsford remain as lovely as ever. The service... More

Had Sunday lunch for 14 people as a surprise birthday party. Service attentive & friendly. Food well presented a perfectly cooked. Pizza was great - they have separate kid's menu. Prices very reasonable. Will definitely be going back

We strolled up to The Griffin this afternoon for a nice Sunday lunch, and we weren't disappointed. The baked camembert stater that we shared was very tasty and satisfyingly presented, and we both devoured the meat platter of roast beef, lamb and chicken (accompanied by a huge Yorkshire pudding). Not the best roast potatoes i've ever had, but I can't... More

It was our 1st time visiting The Griffin but it felt like our local by the time we left. We received a warm and friendly welcome. The service was really quick and attentive. The food was excellent. The menu had lots of choice. I had a steak which was cooked to perfection. My husband enjoyed Paella. The desserts were amazing,... More
