Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

OK, I get that prices have gone up everywhere, but at least give us a little more food. Spent $85 for 3 brunch items and 2 non-alcoholic drinks, WOW. So loud in the restaurant, even with only 30 people. Sorry owners, won't be stopping by...EVER again.More

Went yesterday specifically for scones. They were actually disappointing. Jam was too runny, as was the cream. Should be a jam with some fruit in it and whipped cream. The scones were quite tall so had to be cut into slices. I know they are...basically just flour but scones were too doughy. Not what I expected.More

We hadn’t booked but we’re offered several “options” to dine in. The staff were so polite and very helpful. We placed our order and before too long both out meals were bought out together … poached eggs and a burger and chips !!! They were...delicious. I would highly recommend these Tea rooms, we left feeling very much looked after and satisfied with our choice of meals.More

Been here quite a few times now. On Sunday we went for lunch. 2 burgers and the zen bowl. There was an issue with the kitchen and our order was misplaced. Staff were so apologetic and immediately resolved the issue. Food was lovely but zen...bowl was a bit of a small portion - I should have added an egg. Cakes/scones after were so tasty and fresh. Great service and good food.More

Have only been here once but the service was pleasant and the food was nice. It's located in the tiny town of Kallista that doesn't exactly have a lot of reasons to stop but if you do then this might be a food option. It...has a couple of styles of seating from places to have a sit down meal to tables more suited to sitting around over a coffee.More

We were here for high tea. May I start off with the place is very chilly. They have a lovely coonara there but not going. The high tea was dissapointing at the least. Savouries were dry and cold, scones were nice but they had tarts...and cakes on top and were horrible and dry. The only thing that were fresh were the scones. It definitely wasn't worth $59. We had 2 teens with us and they had hamburgers but struggled to eat them cause there was alot of some sort of creamy sauce on them. Save your money and go elsewhere.More

Thanks to Covid, it's a long time since I've eaten at the Kallista Tea Rooms and was looking forward to a return visit as the food, ambience and service had been excellent on my last experience. Unfortunately, I cannot give the Tea Rooms a good...overall rating. Starting with the positive: the service was excellent, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The ambience is still there, and it wasn't the fault of the staff that people kept leaving the door open and letting the freezing cold wind cool things down. I suggest a self-closing fitting for the door!! The most disappointing aspect was the food. I had the vege stack which looked wonderful but was under seasoned and very bland. Couscous and Tofu need seasoning! The relish on the couscous was store bought, awful and did nothing to enhance the dish, rather, it detracted from it. My friend had a burger!! Again, it looked good. Fortunately, she added an egg, or it would have been one dry bun that had not been buttered; an overcooked meat patty that looked dry and inedible and was, a piece of lettuce with a dab of aioli on the bottom half of the bun. There was none of the normal burger additives like tomatoes, beetroot, onion etc. A side of hot chips (and chips with the burger) were also a disappointment - over cooked and hard. 2 pots of tea made up an overpriced, unsatisfactory eating experience. Maybe the scones are still yummy. Very disappointing.More

Kallista Tea Rooms topped off a fantastic day trip less than an hour out of Melbourne. The space is roomy, airy and light, a welcome retreat after a grey day traipsing through our glorious Victorian Temperate Rainforest. Arrived with 3 grandchildren in tow on the...eve of Halloween. Treats at the door for young and old alike. The children sat near the door with colouring pencils and paper while we were seated at a table to have a much needed and appreciated caffeine hit. The kids got a buzz out of pulling clear or sparkling water out of beer taps. The owners were gracious and helpful to a fault. Nothing too much trouble.More

The food, service, decor was lovely. We had a window seat and we’re amused by the gorgeous Sulphur Crested Cockatoos. The meal was delicious and a great size. The coffee was lovely and the overall experience was a positive one. The biggest downside is the...lack of accessibility for the elderly and disabled. Where the restaurant is situated makes it problematic if mobility issues are part of your everyday life.More

Kalista Tea Room has been on my to-visit list for a while and when we decided to drop in, at lunch on a weekday, I was very pleasantly surprised. Let's talk food: AMAZING. I had the chilli eggs and would heartily recommend: just the right...amount of kick and full of flavour. Hubby had the brioche french toast, slightly elevated from your typical fare by the delicious addition of pear compote and coconut custard. A must have for all the sweet tooths out there. The prices were maybe a touch on the dearer side (think tourist pricing) though I personally think reasonable enough for the quality. As far as atmosphere think ecclectic-bush-hole-in-the-wall; a big tick in my book. With a laid-back, chill vibe it's perfect for a long, gossipy cuppa or just a quick bite to eat. Of note and one of the HUGE highlights for me was the picturesque native cockatoo viewing: free with lunch. The interior of the cafe has a section with this glorious picture window showing the local winged residents chilling, pruning and putting on a free show. It was as unexpected as it was delightful. I'll definitely be back: the high tea is calling my name.More

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm for a Devonshire tea. We did request extra cream and jam (which we found was a little sparse on an earlier visit) and they happily obliged. The scones were huge - and still warm and fresh (we...asked if the scones were microwaved and were advised that a fresh batch of scones were baked every 2 hours). Hot tea, extra hot water, and a lovely take home box for my second of 2 scones, with little pots of cream and jam. Highly recommended for Sunday afternoon (I don’t know what it’s like at peak times). Order ahead for Devonshire tea to take away - they are boxed, with 2 scones, little wooden knife, and a pot of cream (heavy fresh) and a pot of jam. Charming staff and a very nice waiter - I would definitely go back.More

It's a lovely location but we ordered the peach pancakes and the 'Tea Rooms' breakfast. The pancakes were chewy pucks with a syrup that couldn't have been pure maple syrup. The fried eggs were over-cooked with a crust around the outside. And the rosti was...an over cooked, chewy potato puck. Might have been an off day for the cook, but in such a competitive area, and with relatively simple menu items, they could do better.More

This place is so attractive from the street that I just had to go during our stay in the area. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. It’s such a shame as a would have gone back as location was convenient for me. The corn fritters were...awful. Flat, greasy, small, overcooked and an absolute joke at $20. I only ate two to be polite and because I didn’t want to ruin the experience for my kids by complaining. We also had part of our order forgotten about but at least after being made to wait again for it to arrive we’re not charged for it. My daughter had the scones. They were ok but we were told they were straight out of the oven. If they hadn’t told me that I wouldn’t have thought about it but it made me check them. I make scones at home quite often as these seemed microwaved. Still my daughter enjoyed them although they jam and cream serves were a bit stingy. My latte was perfect and the toast was good so it wasn’t overall bad. It’s just so disappointing as I wanted to like this place so much. The building is incredible. It could be really great.More

Cute tea house in a nice building but that’s where it ends. Food was revolting and expensive. Corn fritters were just tasteless balls of grease for $20 and quiche was very small with an overly seasoned oily salad. Milk shakes were nice although charged $1...extra for skinny milk- really?. Very disappointed as it was for an early Mother’s Day treat. Won’t be returning.More
