Very disappointed that a restaurant of the calibre of The Oarsman are not checking Covid digital certificates. Especially in a town that has hen/stag groups from all over Ireland.

Slow start to the evening in terms of waiting around for our table, but understandable considering Covid related staff shortages. From then on though, the service was very efficient, the food faultless (pork belly particularly good), wine spot on, and overall quality of food versus...bill was a pleasant surprise. Special call out to our server Tracey who, despite been rushed off her feet, delivered all that was required of her…and more. Will make a point of re-visiting the Oarsman.More

If you have never visited the Oarsman or haven’t been back post Covid you are missing a real culinary treat .We dined here at the weekend and it was one of the best meals we have eaten in a long time ,;the presentation ,flavour combinations...,quality and freshness of the food all added up to a fab meal .The food was served piping hot which enhanced the flavours .This was all complimented by the friendly welcome from Tracy and attentive service of Vincent and Michael .Ronan and Conor at the helm are cooking up a storm .More

Having been a customer of the Oarsman over the years, their food and service have never disappointed. Eating there with my family recently was no exception. The main course and desserts were of a very high standard and excellently presented. We had a family confirmation...there a few years ago and a great fuss was made of the child being confirmed. Well done to the Oarsman for your consistently good food and service and your adaptation to the restrictions imposed in these challenging times.More

Absolutely delicious food and desserts. A smashing vegetarian curry in particular, but we've eaten here a few times, and there's no such ting as a dudd plate in this place. Very reasonably priced, too. And very interesting raft beers to top it all off!

First of all I would give this dish a 10 out of 10 for flavour and taste. I was however very disappointed at how liquidity it was - it was more like fish pie soup than a fish pie! I started eating it with a...fork and realised I needed a spoon!! Not enough fish in there either and could add some more mash potato on top as well! Im all on board for supporting local businesses and I have no problem paying for good quality food - as I am a complete foodie myself and appreciate good locally sourced organic ingredients that produce quality dishes but I have a real problem with establishments who cut corners and cheat the customers! I have endeavoured to order from other local restaurants throughout this pandemic but stopped doing after feeling disappointed with the quality and feeling ripped off. The fish pie or should I say fish pie soup cost 9:50 pretty reasonable but unfortunately felt ripped off in this instance as well 😕 I like the Oarsman overall for the other great artisan products that are available there !More

Got in for a Saturday night dinner, just before Oct 6th lockdown. Great advice on wine. Pleased to have allergies facilitated. Skipped on starter ...steak was excellent. My special salad was delicious. The chocolate dessert was extra special. Recommendation: I know there are a variety...of theories on the wearing of masks vs visors but as a Health Professional myself, it is very difficult to communicate with staff in semi-darkness through masks. There are a variety of transparent face coverings available. All in all, excellent dining experience.More

Great food and good service in this lovely old gastropub right in the heart of Carrick. Decent value and offers a good menu with well-executed, tasty fare - a touch French. Recommended.

This place looks like just your average pub from the outside but don't be put off by that as it is far from average... The food is exceptional the staff are very friendly and helpful.... between five of us we had various dishes, Burgers, chicken...wings, chowder, fish n chips, even the soup was excellent with a dash of garlic oil, oh and their homemade bread I could have eaten all day and it was a pity that it was not for sale to takeaway... Oh and in these crazy Covid times they are also very safety consious without being over the top which was very comforting... We are from Dublin and were on a cruise holiday, but as far as the Oarsman is concerned I think I will be making the two trip from Dublin just for another great eating experience.More

Hi Brendan, Thanks very much for giving us your feedback. You are right, it should have had a bit of caramelization and crisp. The standard is we sous-vide the belly, then pan fry, oven bake for a little and then before... More

Yes you should go upstairs. there is two sections one over the bar, it has wooden floors and a little noisy. it would be better to get the the area at the side of the stairs for the group. Enjoy.
