Usually here for a lunch, so for a change here for dinner. The raw fish entree presentation was stunning, the duck for main was perfectly cooked and had great flavor. The lemon dessert was very pleasant. Will definitely be back again.

It had been about a ten year gap since going and it was great to return. I selected Matteo's as a welcome break from shared dish dining which I'm getting pretty fatigued with. Here's what I loved: - Knowledgeable and attentive service - Minimal noise...levels, even at capacity - Great range of vegetarian/vegan dishes - Extensive wine list that's very well priced All courses were enjoyed, but dessert was a stand out. There was a yuzu gelato dessert which didn't sound like much but boy was it amazing, and looked stunning. A few people in the party were a little confused with the range of menus (e.g. tasting, a la carte etc) but I found it easy enough to navigate. I was really glad to be back and hopefully it won't be as long between visits next time.More

Fantastic service as soon as you walk in door. We had the set menu which was absolutely amazing but way too much food for me, lucky the boys ate everything left over. Beautiful restaurant, really can’t fault it.

Oyster with finger lime to start - excellent Citron dessert to finish - excellent Everything else on tasting menu very disappointing - deep fried over salted agnolotti under cooked At this price best avoided

We returned for another visit to this great restaurant, having been many times especially for birthdays & with foreign guests ( that is of course pre COVID !) This time we had the usual great culinary offering & friendly, professional service. The downside ? The...website continues to offer corkage for BYO at $20, but we were charged $30. The explanation ? “It’s been increased recently “. We would expect that published prices to the marketplace should be current & accurate. This one let the side down somewhat, but still has us offering a full 5 points as overall rating.More

Excellent service and delicious food that is reminiscent of a master painting. The choice for vegetarian was good. I had the lovely zucchini flowers for entree and mushroom & comte pithivier for main with a side salad. There are a good selection of wine and...cocktails to complete the experience. They have staggered times for dining and we never felt rushed. Very friendly waiters.More

Last time we visited the menu was French with Asian influences. Menu is now nominally Italian but with strong French influence. Food read better on the menu than executed on the plate...again.. Came across, in the end as heavy, old fashioned and graceless. The Vitello...was a muddy mess, the deep-fried Zucchini flower entree failed to cohere as a dish -though the individual elements were all good. The Mushroom& Comte pithivier likewise flat and dull and a chore to finish. Dry and stodgy side of chips didn't help. My Western Plains pork belly ‘porchetta’| eggplant caponata | rillettes croquette the most successful of the dishes on the day but let down by under seasoned pork and almost inedible, under cooked and stringy veg. A la Carte Menu overall struck us as overly heavy for the time of year, not helped by the set 2/3 course format, forcing a choice of entree and main where l would have preferred to mix and match say; three entrees.... Gets us to the pricing. Asking 2 courses $75–3 courses$98 plus $10 per side needed to get a starch and/or greens on the plate is right up there. High end pricing needs precise, well executed food to match- a clear fail. It's a lovely room, the service was adequate, the wine list fairly priced, but note that BYO is now $30. Bottom line though, for the not inconsiderable price, there are better options out there.More

So great to be back at Matteo’s for lunch today. If anything the food is better than before lockdown. Chef Rhys has taken it up a notch or two. Preparation, plating, presentation all superb. Great ideas deliciously delivered. We were fortunate enough to be able...to bring some sensational and rare wines to enjoy with our food (BYO welcome,$30 corkage per bottle). Excellent glassware and attentive service. Staff were as usual polite and professional. Matteo was at his best - consummate host. Can’t wait fir next time.More
