Being local residents, the Rising Sun has always been, at least until our last two visits, been one of our favourite eateries in Truro. The first of these two visits occurred late in 2016 when everything that could go wrong went wrong. The service was appalling, food was not up to scratch and the bill was incorrect. We later learnt... More

Fish of the day was a wonderful hake in a great concoction of mussels, samphire, sprouting broccoli, almonds and turned potatoes in a saffron broth. Fishing cooking of the highest order. Congratulations. As ever Karen was the perfect hostess.

Another beautiful meal, or rather experience at The Rising Sun. Everything is always well thought out - it is not just the food, but they know how to make every visit special. The staff are friendly and efficient, a great choice of drinks and good wines, a comfortable environment, and then fabulous food. I had crab and prawn tagliatelle with... More

As a Publican, I can only recommend this place as a top, top pub and so please they are currently Cornwall Pub of the Year & just won Gold at South West Tourism Awards. We stopped in for a quick lunch today before watching a chilly rugby game. The wood burner was alight, the bar stools filled with locals awaiting... More

Felt I just had to say what a lovely lunch We had to day. We all ended up have vegetarian dishes and we all were delighted. Followed by scrummy desserts. Excellent service and a good ambience. We will return sooner rather than later.

We did not know what to expect when our friends booked us in for Sunday with them at this pub. Looking at the menu, I must admit I was a bit taken aback at the cost at first - used as I am to garden centre Sunday lunches on the whole. But I was in for a very pleasant gastronomic... More

Everyone seems to believe they have the gravitas of The Ritz, staff and customers alike. Dinner ladies have much more class and essential dignity. Being asked on a wet wintry Tuesday at midday whether we have a booking is perhaps a tad ridiculous. It's a pub! Not impressed by Chuckles The Barman. If I wanted a vicar's collar on my... More

We like to dine before our visits to the Hall for Cornwall, and we have tried a few restaurants in Truro. We always make sure the restaurant knows we are going to the theatre and need to be there for the start of the performance, usually 19:30. On several occasions we have had to leave the last course, or bolt... More

Met friends for lunchtime drinks on comfy chairs in front of a glowing log burner on a wet and windy day. Although I didn't eat their ploughman's sandwich and white crab sandwich other side salad looked good-they left nothing but crumbs! I had my Christmas staff do here and it was delicious. In warmer weather there's a courtyard garden at... More

Feel a bit mean putting this on today as the food was superb, the service and the attitude let the whole evening down. We turned up a bit early to meet four others . The bar was busy but very good atmosphere were about to order a drink while we waited when we were approached by a staff member who... More
