So the night of the big beach bang. Ten thousand people just around the corner. Bar staff = 1. 1 rather stroppy girl. We finally got some drinks though asking for glasses for the bottles of cider just made her mad and go out the back. Upon which some lights tripped and she was then unable to serve anyone. Absolute... More

Good evening Simon, First of all thanks for taking the time of writing a review. This night was meant to be busier than usual and 2 staffs were initially on, one was obliged to leave at 7pm for family reasons and the other one didn't show up for his shift.... So only one left behind the bar, and a lot... More

So many mixed reviews and wanting to ensure we have a nice Christmas Day , we went to sample meals and ambience at the newly managed old garrison before booking. Well all I can say is we are now booked in for Christmas Day. Food is excellent, fresh ingredients , quality food and fair price . Ness the manager was... More

This pub is amazing. Great staff always a wam welcome. Food is freshly made, we know this as spoke to the chef hence why may take a bit longer to come out. If you want cheap quick food go to Harvester they are perfect for this and the quality is rubbish and cooked in a microwave! We come down every... More

I am only writing this because the other reviews don't give a fair view. This is the only pub in the area where you can feed the kids without breaking the bank. The garden is huge and there is a huge wooden castle with a slide, ramp and ropes so our family are able to have a nice adult chat... More

My husband and I took a bike ride down to the Old Garrison in the hope of having some lunch in the garden. However, we arrived about 10 past 2pm to be told they had stopped serving. I appreciate that this is quite normal for independent pubs (ie not chains), however whilst we sat and had a drink 3 other... More

Dear Angela, I am genuinely sorry to hear about your bad experience with us and would like to thank you for taking the time to share it with us. Our kitchen is closing every day at 2.30pm not 2pm and I don't remember closing it any earlier nor is my chef, only one time when Shoeburyness got a power cut... More

Sticky dirty grubby tables. Your glass stuck to the table top. Deep fried tasteless cheap stale ingredients that had no taste and were over cooked. Limp salads. No chef can produce a decent meal from these nasty ingredients. Basically the only thing going for this pub is the children's section of the beer garden. The beer is horrid and mega... More

We drove through southend on sea and quickly decided not to stay, very unappealing promenade full of arcades and overpriced busy food outlets. Came across the Old Garrison and stopped for lunch, really great venue for the kids. Surprisingly quiet on sunny Saturday afternoon. Great outdoor play area for kids, lots of space, really nice beer garden. Food was on the... More

There were four of us for lunch and we all were very happy with the food and the service. The food was served hot and plentiful. I like the fact we could all chat and not be subjected to loud music that makes any conversation impossible so well done for that. I did report nails sticking out of one of... More
