Cosy country pub serving old and new favourite dishes served with a smile at a sensible price, it really ticks all my boxes. Can’t really add much to the other glowing reviews except to say we will be enjoying the food and hospitality again very...More

We dropped in to take pot luck on the way home from a meeting. Really enjoyed the food - nibbles selection (him) and cottage pie with lovely fresh veggies (me). It looks a bit forlorn from the road as most of the car parking is...More

Very happy to see this pretty little pub re-opened. A friend has been several times in the last month or so. He recommends the shepherds pie with bubble and squeak topping. I've tried the vegetarian burger (flat mushroom with haloumi cheese). Veg were nicely cooked...More

Popped in to the chequers on the way back from Oxford to Bicester. Got there greeted by a very friendly barmaid, we were twenty before the restaurant opened, so ordered two Drinks and sat down, waited to be shown a menu which came from a...More

Now that this pub has changed hands since my last review it has improved enormously. We met friends here for lunch and the food was excellent. Good value & well cooked. It was good wholesome pub grub. The room was warm and welcoming, the new...More

On recommendation, our group of seven family and friends came here for a celebratory Sunday meal. We experienced excellent friendly and attentive customer service, in this cosy old fashioned Inn with flagstone floors. Most of our party opted for the Sunday Roast from the varied...More

Food is outstanding along with the hospitality. Will definitely go there again. If you want a guaranteed seat for Sunday lunch it is advisable to make a reservation.

We ate here once, and visited for drinks 3 or 4 times. The food is okay - nothing special, but reasonable value. But the atmosphere is awful. It's not how one would expect a village pub to feel at all. The landlord and landlady don't...More

What a lovely well cooked Sunday lunch!! My only down side was it was very cramped. There was 5 of us on a table that only should have seated 4 comfortable and there wasn't enough space for someone to sit on the end.

I have been to many pubs/restaurants up and down the UK, and can easily state that this is just one of the very best I have visited. Reading previous reviews, I see the vast majority of people share that view, so we all cant be...More

Description
The Chequers is a traditional English pub & restaurant in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, close to junction 9 of the M40 and Bicester shopping village. We offer a casual dining experience throughout our lovely cotswold stone thatched 16th century pub & gardens. Our wide ranging menu features a "Bertha" charcoal oven. The secret of the Bertha is its enclosed charcoal grill that ensures food retains all its natural moisture and flavour. So you get unbelievably succulent, chargrilled food every time. On Sundays we serve a carvery featuring 5 different meats, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, selection of vegetables and all the usual trimmings.
