Unfortunately surly service from the beginning. I rang just after booking on online as advised to notify that we had kids and wanted a view of the play area - which numerous tables provided. However on arrival we were tucked in the inner most inside table because there had been rain intermittently that morning and the table that had been earmarked for us was not protected from it, although there were at least 10 tables that were protected and had views of the play area. Given the play area was the ONLY reason I booked this restaurant with a 2.5 year old and 5.5 year old I was not best pleased. The manager who was called over to sort out the issue ceremoniously marched us out to the table which was completely unprotected from the weather and insisted this is where our lunch would be (better than the inside table even though it rained intermittently during the afternoon for which no waitstaff came to set up the umbrellas!) The platter for 2 was literally 4 slices of bread, 2 slices of salami, 2 slices of a prosciutto and 2 slices of a cabana with several Uber small bowls of dips and a tiny piece of cheese - uninspiring and quite frankly disrespectful for $30. However the kids toasties were generous portions, the salad of the day delicious and the chocolate chocolate brownie to finish was wonderful. Unfortunately the attitude of the staff was so poor that even with the kids equipment (which the kids loved) I couldn’t bring myself to go back there. Oh yeah, and whilst they would split the bill it could only be 50/50. Given our friends did not have kids I didn’t think they should pay for their meal. When I said I’d pay 3/5 or leave without paying they worked out a way to take the payment within about 5 seconds!!!

Hi Mary. Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear you were disappointed with your experience at the farm. Our online booking system has been set up to ensure that we can operate safely within COVID limits and so it automatically allocates guests to tables at the time of booking. This automatic table allocation, along with the unpredictability of the weather makes it difficult to rearrange tables on the day. We’re sorry that the table you were seated at took away from your farm experience. Thanks again for the feedback and we hope you’ll give us another go and visit us at the farm again soon.

I have been to Green Olive many times over the years, so I was surprised when I arrived and it was large and lacking its previous charm. What was once a quaint olive farm in Red Hill with excellent service, has turned into a commercial experience. Patrons are requested to wait to be seated but no maître d in sight. Service was slow, staff rarely looked up to see if anyone was waiting. They also didn’t return to the table to take more drinks orders. I had to approach staff twice. One of the waiters was on the phone several times so was distracted from serving customers. Menu offerings limited. The farm plate for 2 is unavailable for solo diners.
On a positive, the food was good. The goats cheese and Muhammarah dip was tasty. The Rose wine lovely, as is the vines outlook. A little more focus on service, with some cheer, will help Green Olive return to its former glory.

Looking for some virgin olive oil and came across Green Olive at Red Hill. Arrived around 1500 and was met by a lovely lady who helped us immediately with our olive oil questions. She advised they had just completed a press the same day, and gave us a taste of the product. It ticked the box and we grabbed two bottles. Feeling a little peckish we sat down inside and ordered some of the small share dishes. Most are priced around $14.50 a plate. There are a number of choices but they are primarily designed as share meals. We ordered herbed lamb meatballs, roast beetroot salad and roasted farm potatoes along with a Shiraz and a hot chocolate. Meals came out promptly and were delicious. So good we ordered another round of meatballs. The waiting staff were friendly and prompt to clean up the tables. We also picked up a number of other items from the store also.
The place was very busy and I noted they also welcome dogs.

Brought a Farmers Lunch Gift Voucher for 2 for $129.95 at Chadstone before Christmas and went there for lunch with my wife. According to the "walk in off the street" menu the meal we were able to order was worth $114 NOT $129.95. When we queried this, we were told that the extra was for "the experience". Good food but over priced with slow service. The gift voucher is a blatant rip off when compared to the menu.

Hi there. Thanks for your feedback and we're sorry that you were disappointed in your experience with us. We're sorry that our staff told you that there was a charge for the experience as this is completely untrue. The breakdown of the pricing is:
Sparkling water: $8.00
Estate olives, olive oil and bread: $13.50
4 x farm-made tapas dishes ($13.50 each): $54.00
2 x glasses of estate wine ($12.00 each): $24.00
2 x farm made desserts ($13.50 each): $27
2 X coffee or loose leaf tea ($4.50 each): $9.00
This comes to a total of $135.50. As you’ve said, the price of the experience is $129.95. We’re sorry that you were misinformed and we will speak to our staff regarding your comments.

We are constantly disappointed as locals when take friends here. Today was more of the same so it will be a long time before we try again.
Basically the prices are totally overflated and the servings tiny. Which is such a shame as the setting is amazing. Whatever you do don't go there hungry. Today's farmhouse platter consist Rd of two carefully placed pieces of salami with two tiny pieces of chorizo along with dip bread and olives. Seriously. A tease. The tapas plates are tiny.
We understand that living in red Hill means paying tourist prices but most other local places also provide a decent size serving. Sorry Green Olive. We hadn't been back for some time and we love supporting local business but you need to seriously look at your value.
NOTE I typically provide only positive reviews

Hi Julie. Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you were disappointed in your experience at the farm. We serve tapas style dishes that are meant to be shared with everyone at the table and as such, we do recommend two dishes per person for a meal. Thanks again for your feedback - we will pass it on to management.

We booked a table for 9 people. The table was too small for 9 people. The 9th person was on the end and got bumped and knocked by every single person passing, including staff. The food came out in no particular order. Meals were forgotten. Food was average at best. Wait staff had no idea. And then they wanted to charge us $3.50 per head to share our birthday cake. No thanks. We took our cake home and enjoyed it sitting comfortably.

Terrible!! Mother’s Day lunch, 12 people.
No menus or wine list, no prices anywhere funny about that.
Cost us $1000 for a couple of meat balls & a few tiny sausages.
Only 2 toilets for well over 100 people, line stretched through the place, disgusting.!! At 2pm just about to order coffee & desserts politely told to “piss off” as the table now booked for second seating, WTF! No dessert, pretend coffee in pretend cups sitting on the grass, our 3 grandparents were mortified. Try asking about gift vouchers, what’s the extra $20 for?? We were told “ the experience “! WTF ! Worst experience we’ve all ever had. And you have to walk a mile up a steep hill to get back to the car, our grandparents nearly died.
Horrendously overpriced, extremely unprofessional & the worst experience we’ve ever had.

Hi there. We're sorry to hear that we didn't meet your expectations. We are encouraging the COVID safe practice of viewing our online menu which you can see by scanning the QR code on every table. We also have hard copy menus for those who can't use QR codes. Both our online and hard copy menus include prices for all of our dishes as well as a priced wine list. Additionally, our booking engine clearly states the two lunch sitting times and the time that the table needs to be vacated. Both of these are agreed to on booking. We have toilets both inside the building and outside. Gift vouchers are redeemed for the value they are purchased. Finally, we have a disabled car park where people can pick up and drop off elderly or disabled visitors.

We attended for lunch and a drink as recommended by many people reporting the food was the best out of the other local wineries. They were accepting walk ins however only had outside tables and they explained that if it were to rain they wouldn’t be able to move us inside which we accepted.
However, it did begin to rain very heavily and they didn’t allow us to stand inside or sit at a vacant table. We were only there to eat and run as had many things on but there was a long wait on the food. Upon leaving we saw other customers with blankets provided by staff and this was not offered to us whilst we sat in the rain waiting for our food.
The food was below average and we were all very disappointed. The lamb meatballs were tasty however they were clearly reheated. They came to the table cold and didn’t have colour to them. The potatoes also appeared reheated and were chewy to eat. The tomato salad had over ripened watery tomatoes and it was inedible. All meals came out separately despite being ordered together.
I would attend here again for the views and a drink but definitely not to eat. Also, it was disappointing that with the wine tasting board only one of the wines was their grapes being the Pinot Noir which made the experience less enjoyable.

Hi there. Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed in your experience at the farm. With limits on numbers due to COVID, we recommend that people book in advance as it is the only way to guarantee a table inside, especially with weather such as we're having at the moment. Our food is fresh from our farm and prepared in the kitchen daily and most visitors love our tapas dishes, particularly the lamb meatballs. We only stock Green Olive at Red Hill wines - all of the wines on the tasting board are our wines. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope you'll give us another go and visit us at the farm again soon.

didn’t even attend- also my first negative review
Had a booking made for a friend and I to catch up, haven’t seen each other since 2019, so was very excited. But of course in the world we live in now, she was classified as a close contact and had to isolate. I wanted to do the right thing so I tried calling the venue multiple times to let them know we won’t make it, but no answer. Our booking was for a Wednesday lunch and as I checked their Google page, it said they were closed causing further confusion as to whether I even had a booking. (Also that they were closed monday and Tuesday)
I went as far as to find their email to send a message to let them know we couldn’t make it. I’ve worked in hospitality so I know how much a heads up is appreciated
I received a very blunt response that the booking has been cancelled under the terms and conditions.. aka I was charged $20 a head for a cancelation within 24 hours. Merry Christmas to
Me!
I replied stating I felt that was unfair. Completely out of our control and I had tried calling but their phone lines obviously had issues and it was for a simple booking of 2. Large bookings I can understand or if we didn’t rock up without notifying, but I doubt they would have struggled to fill our empty seats.
I never received a further response. Which just made me feel completely dismissed.
I also would wonder how would one be able to cancel their Wednesday booking outside 24 hours if the venue is closed the 2 days prior?
I understand covid has impacted businesses but they have also impacted individuals and considering all the community has done to support small businesses and hospitality during and after lockdowns it’s pretty disappointing to learn it’s only a one way street and the feeling isn’t mutual from some of them. I love the peninsula and our wineries, Green Olive is always on the list I give people to check out if theyre new or visiting the area. But not anymore. The message here is don’t bother doing the right thing at this venue. And after reading further reviews I’m glad we decided to go somewhere else at a later date.

Beautiful setting, great table near the lake with beautiful views of the vines, perfect on a nice, sunny day.
Received the farmers lunch package as a gift which had a good variety of food and drink, although disappointed not to receive any olives (replaced with dukkah). The dips and potatoes were delicious, but do not order the iced strawberry, it is just an overdose of strawberry topping and icecream, not appetising at all. Overall a nice place to pop in, make sure to book as very busy.

Worst experience. Came to celebrate my Dads 70th (who we haven’t seen in 3 years due to COVID). The lady owner was very rude about my request for heating up my 9month old son and 10month old niece’s baby food. She also asked us to put their sandwiches away because they offer food there…not sure babies can swallow cheese and meat boards?? Further, the kids meals provided are unsuitable for small babies. When we mentioned this, the owner was extremely passive aggressive and gave an excuse that it is a health and safety issue to avoid contamination? I’m rather perplexed at this response considering dogs are allowed onsite which could easily contaminate things, yet baby food is more risky? Horrible customer service and made us feel very uncomfortable. I’m surprised that an owner of a hospitality venue is so out of touch with customer service and customer experience. Unfortunately we had already ordered wine and lots of food else we would have left!!! You claim to be child friendly but your attitude absolutely stinks. We will never return there again and warn those with children that they’ll make it uncomfortable for you. If I could have given no stars I would have. You completely ruined our day and celebration.

We had a booking for 15 for a birthday celebration on Good Friday. On arrival we were squeezed on a table for 12. We were really disappointed they had very limited pre-prepared cold food options. Nothing like the warm fresh food we have eaten before or had seen online. Only prepared platters and tomato salads, but it was really disappointing quality. The platters were small and basic. Most of the tomatoes in the salads were actually mouldy and soft, clearly past their use by date. We sent them back (waitress was unapologetic and annoyed) and got a replacement that only marginally looked better, they had just cut off the mouldy parts! Needless to say we left most of it and left hungry. We were really disappointed by the lack of food options and the poor quality. The setting is very nice but we won’t be coming back as there are much better options around this area.

Wonderful place and excellent food. Everything is really fresh and nicely cooked.
Super busy on weekends.
You won't have internet access if you are with some network providers and they refused access to their internet for a moment to check their online menu or download my Gift voucher. The guy after my simple question of "can I please access your internet for a moment as I need to download my gift voucher as I don't have network coverage " answered me "That's your problem mate! You have to sort it out yourself ". This man is the head of servants. Lucky my friend could give me a hot spot internet access from his phone. I understand why they refused(security maybe) but They would be able to have guests connection as well. This is very simple.
I had to edit my booking but they never answered their phone no matter what time of the day and what day you call them they would not answer. I understand they are super busy but maybe somebody still can do it. And ... voicemail box is always full!
Otherwise everything else was very good. I gave it a 2 star to make sure they learn how to reply to an enquiry from their costumers with more respect not with "You sort it out" after a polite request.
Good luck.
Cheers.

Hi there. Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you were disappointed with your experience at the farm. Being a regional area, we have poor internet service which only has the capacity to run our ordering and point of sale systems. We have installed all hardware advised by Telstra experts but there are simply no more data points in Main Ridge and as such, nothing more we can do to improve our coverage. We are grateful to our patrons for understanding our frustrations with the internet service. Additionally, our phone answering system has helpful information advising customers to book online or email us with any queries regarding their booking. Our phone messages are checked in the morning and afternoon, but during the day we are unable to respond to 100% of our calls as we are serving visitors here at the farm. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope you'll give us another go and visit us at the farm again soon.

We booked lunch for a family group of 10 (including 4 children) for the 23rd December 22 on the 21st December 22. Unfortunately one of the group tested positive for covid on the 22nd & we cancelled that day. We have been told that we will be charged a $20 cancellation fee per person. Including the 4 children this will come to $200!!!
We are shocked at this treatment given the circumstances and at this time of year. Had we been given an option to reschedule, we would have gladly taken it.
We will not be returning…

In December 2019 whilst shopping at Chadstone, I impulsively purchased my husband a $180 voucher for a Green Olive pasta making course (Green Olive had a pop up store). Covid hit, and of course there were no pasta making courses during 2020 & 2021. In fact I would occasionally look on the website during 2022 and I could not see any scheduling of pasta making courses. So this week we contacted Greg at Green Olive, and we have been informed 'This has expired by more than 3 years nothing we can do'. We find this response really perplexing - you can simply honour the voucher and the $180.00 spent. Covid has been difficult for many people, and my husband, who also works in hospitality, has made the decision to actively honour all past vouchers/deposits - in fact chasing people to help them come back and use their deposits/vouchers. We value businesses that value their customers, demonstrate integrity. We'll be giving Green Olive a wide berth.
