This was a really last minute booking for us and I wasnt disappointed. The value for money for the two night stay was brilliant, the room was cosy and clean, the breakfasts were great and really good sized portions. We had dinner on both nights...which was really tasty and the staff were really friendly, made us feel very welcome and given all of the Covid restrictions they made our stay very relaxed. Highly recommend and we will be back again.More

The Anvil is a lovely pub with rooms. We booked for two nights and our room was spotlessly clean and well equipped. We received a very warm welcome from Karl and his team. We ate in the pub both nights and the food was excellent,...as were the breakfasts. We will be recommending The Anvil to friends and family and hope to stay again.More

We met up with friends at the Anvil for lunch last Sunday. It was a half way point and chosen because of that but we were very pleased we did. It is a lovely old place with a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly and...helpful and they had good covid precautions in place. Service was great and the food was hot and really delicious, couldn't fault it at all. We all had a drink, a main course and a desert and the bill was less than £25 per head. I think that was a good value lunch out!More

Disappointing lunchtime choice of menu soup £5.95 for a small bowl which was lukewarm and the crusty bread was stale heated up in oven to crisp it up needed to soak it in soup to eat it. Glass of coke £3.50 a glass too expensive....Amstel beer was good price £2.30 for a 1/2 pint. Very nice inside think evening meal would be better but quite pricey. Nice decor but food expensive for what you gotMore

Dear Getaway Thank you for your comments on your visit to The Anvil. Apologies that all was not up to your expectations but I do feel a few points need addressing for balance. Our soup bowls are not small, pretty average really. I've been serving...More

Karl and Oli were really excellent, service, interaction with the customers, standards right across the board were faultless. Food was really very good (Mac n Cheese with brisket!!) and accomadating our dairy allergy daughter wasn't the slightest issue. We will be back!

My girlfriend and I recently stayed here for 3 nights whilst doing some sightseeing around Dorset. The property itself was beautiful and the surrounding village had some stunning walking trails through local farmlands. It's easy to get to the tourist hotspots by car and because...breakfast and dinner were available, we didn't have to worry about finding somewhere to go before and after a long day. The food was great - all fresh and locally sourced where possible and there was plenty to choose from to accommodate most tastes. Staff were friendly and always eager to help - very attentive. The room was functional, clean and had a degree of charm with its old wooden beams. If you're after luxury, then probably skip this but it was perfectly acceptable for what we needed. Despite the obvious effects Covid is having on the industry at large, we felt the overall experience was fantastic value for money and would highly recommend the Anvil Inn to anyone that is looking for a Dorset getaway! A prime example of the type of local business that is worthy of support during these hard times.More

Stopped here on the way back from a lovely day out. Nice pub with nice garden, but don't buy the Prosecco ! I was charged £8.95 for a glass, I drink Prosecco regularly and understand it is a bit more expensive but have found prices...to vary from £5.00 - £7.00 am utterly disgusted and feel they are taking the rise. Anything to say to justify this price Anvil Inn ?More

Yep. Plenty. We DO NOT sell Prosecco by the glass! We only sell it by the bottle. A large one or a small one. You bought a small one. A small bottle will serve two normal size fizz glasses. This makes it by my calculation...More

There isn't a lift, unless they have a room downstairs I wouldn't say it's suitable for elderly or disabled as it is very quaint with winding stairs
