Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great customer service, always very warm and welcoming. As well as great takeaway. One of the best Thai meals I've eaten out of Thailand!

Had dinner there in a quiet environment with a quick personal service. They do not have coconut juice but instead offers soft drinks, coke. Great for small intimate dinners or takeaway meals

This restaurant delivers above average Thai dishes. We had spring rolls, green curry, ginger salmon, and barbecue chicken: everything was delicious and the flavours were beautifully balanced ... yum! I now have a new favourite local Thai, can't believe it took me this long to...get there.More

My wife and I have been going nearly every week for the last 8 months since they opened and have never been disappointed. The tofu with satay sauce is exceptional and my wife loves the chicken with curry sauce and thai basil. I also indulge...in thbe vegetarian pad thai. It's BYO and only $2 a head corkage. Very friendly staff and they do takeaway and delivery. Matter of fact we are going tonight.More

FOOD QUALITY Four of us dined on a warm spring evening in October. We started with two mixed entree plates, each plate having one satay chicken stick, one money bag, one veg spring roll, one curry puff and one fish cake. Not a huge serve,...but each piece was delicious and freshly cooked. It got the juices flowing, but without filling us up too much. For mains I chose the chicken in lemon sauce. That was an inspired choice. A plate full of thinly sliced, tender and succulent chicken pieces, deep fried in a golden brown batter, smothered in a creamy lemon sauce and accompanied by ripe tomato slices, a nice chunky piece of lettuce and sliced lemons. Chicken seemed to be the flavour of the night, because our dining companions chose chicken with almonds and curry chicken, while my wife stuck to her favourite vegetarian meal; stir fried vegetables with tofu. Add in the obligatory large bowl of boiled rice and we had the perfect banquet for the four of us. Every dish was a winner. It was all fresh and tasty, served in just the right portion sizes, on stylish white crockery and brought out to the table piping hot, straight from the wok. Everyone enjoyed their meals. ATMOSPHERE This used to be the old “Kaffir Lime” Thai restaurant that graced this corner spot for many years. But it’s nice to see it freshened up, modernised and rebranded as Bonanza Thai. The interior has been decked out in contemporary red, black and brown colour tones with wooden planter boxes on the walls and low hanging lamps, complemented by strong down lights. There’s an interesting black and white mural on the back wall. When we arrived, there was only a smattering of other diners, but it did fill up as the evening wore on and at one stage was almost full. Clearly this place has already established a solid reputation amongst the locals. The atmosphere is casual, laid back and relaxed: nothing too formal here, just come as you are and enjoy the dining experience. Perfect for a pleasant evening catching up with friends. SERVICE Wait staff are friendly and polite, but service was a tad patchy. Our booked table was ready and waiting for us, but once we’d settled in, it took a bit of gesticulating and waving to attract the attention of one of the two waitresses. Maybe these guys need to pay a bit more attention to incoming guests. Eventually our order was taken. The entrees arrived pretty quickly, then one main, then there followed a fairly lengthy wait of about 15 minutes, before two more arrived, and finally the fourth one, after main no 1 had already been consumed. I know that this is a small place with limited staff and everything is brought out fresh from the kitchen, still it would be nice to have all the dishes brought out at the same time. COMFORT Seating is stable and comfortable. I was lucky to snare the soft, couch-style seating against the back wall. The tables are large enough to fit all the dishes and glasses. Being a spring night, temp inside was just the right kind of mild with no need for any heating or cooling. MENU The menu is clearly laid out on plain white paper in transparent plastic sheets to keep it clean and hygienic. TOILETS Toilets are out the back, through a rather grubby door that’s in need of a coat of paint. There are separate male and female toilets and they’re clean, well stocked and easy to find. The male toilet though, lacked a door at the front, with only a thin curtain to protect your modesty if you choose to use the urinal. ACOUSTICS When we got there, it was fairly quiet but as it filled up it did become a tad noisy, since there are no carpets or any other kind of noise absorbers. COST Prices here are extremely reasonable, even without a voucher or a discount deal. We ended up paying a modest $92 (plus tip to bring it up to a neat $100) for the four of us and that included two mixed entree plates, four mains with rice all round. This place doesn’t have a “licence” to serve liquor, so we brought our own. I didn’t check our bill too closely, but I don’t think we were charged for corkage. BOOKING Being a Sat night, we took the precaution of booking ahead, which turned out to be the prudent thing to do because, as mentioned, it did get fairly full at around 8.30-9pm. Still I wouldn’t think bookings would be necessary for weeknights. PARKING/ACCESS You’ll find B.T. in Albion St, Waverley, just at the point where Albion St becomes Bronte Rd. Generally one can find fairly street parking nearby on Bronte Road where there are no nighttime restrictions. SUMMARY We had a pleasant evening here and everything went smoothly. Food was first class, the ambience is relaxed and casual and parking isn’t too much of a problem in this rather quiet, obscure little corner of the eastern suburbs. Service could be improved though, but this wouldn’t put us off from coming back. RECOMMENDATION Chicken in lemon sauce is highly recommended.More

The restaurant was busy on the Monday night we were there, so that's always a good sign. The food was delicious, meals were served promptly, and the staff were friendly and charming. The restaurant is very clean and presents nicely, and the toilets were spotless....Our second visit and won't be the last.More

Found this restaurant by chance. I was a bit worried reading the menu when the only food with gluten free option was the fried rice, as I have gluten intolerance. Luckily the friendly owner explained that some of the dishes could be made gluten free....It would be very helpful if the information was printed on the menu in the first place! We had delicious chicken salad, pineapple duck and prawns with glass noodles. The only downside about this restaurant is their service when the owner is not present.More

We had lunch at Bonanza Thai today and had 2 dishes from the inexpensive lunch menu ($8.90 per dish). I had Pad Kee Mao (stir fried spicy noodles with chicken), and my Thai partner had a delicious Pad Thai. The very friendly owner, Ched, came...and talked with us, and made us very welcome. We also saw the extensive a la carte menu. Take away and home delivery are also offered. For a reasonably priced tasty Thai meal, in a friendly cosy atmosphere, you cant do better than Bonanza Thai.More

We ordered home delivery - the food was the worst Thai food I have ever eaten - we could not finish it. The lemon chicken was like a chicken schnitzel with a glow-in-the-dark lemony horrible mayonnaise. The mussaman beef curry had chewy over-cooked beef. The...fish cakes were rubbery and tasteless. The satay sauce on the chicken skewers was oily and tasteless. The lamb cutlets were chewy and under-flavoured - certainly like no Thai lamb I have ever eaten before. The order arrived 1/4 hour late and was cold and gluey.More
