As Hills locals, Embers has been a go to for several years and was always great and consistent. We have dined in and were big fans of their wood fire pizzas. We bought some pizzas recently and they were not as good as they used...to be. The topping was different and didnt go to the edges. We thought the cheese tasted different as well. Embers changed hands recently and I think the new owners are struggling to maintain the great standard the restaurant had before.More
Have always been a fan of the food and service here but since it's changed hands (earlier this year) had heard it was not as good! Friends were right! whilst main course was up to par, deserts and service left much to be desired. The...vibe and atmosphere from before was lacking too. Such a shame and sorry to feel the need to write a negative review!More
Delicious food and exceptional service from David. We love coming back to this restaurant especially for David. 😊 The food is very tasty too.
Food delicious very busy restaurant and can be quite noisy but the food makes up for the noise. Best to make a booking on the weekend.
I’ve dined at Embers, Gooseberry Hill many times over the years and found the food on offer varied, interesting and satisfying and had no reason to complain, but unfortunately I am no longer of the same opinion since my last dining experience last Friday 17th...Feb 2023. My first impression was not pleasant – when we first arrived the waitperson appeared to be shouting at us when discussing whether we had a booking or not and when taking our lunch order. I was looking forward to ordering the Fish and Chips but was told that the only fish on offer was barramundi, which I did not like. I then opted for the Prawn Korma, which I have enjoyed many times in the past, but this time it was so piping hot that it burnt my pallet and I am still suffering the after-effects. It was probably microwaved for far too long. I might add that my husband had no complaints regarding his steak-burger, nothing fancy but it ticked all the right boxes. There was not much choice on the Red Wine-List, the only Merlot on offer by the glass was the Cab Merlot, which I ordered and which was unpalatable. I told the waitperson so, to which she replied, in a condescending manner, that there were other reds on the List that I could have ordered, like the Shira, etc. She asked me if the wine was off, to which I replied that I did not know. What I do know is that I have consumed many Merlots and blends thereof over the years and none of them were undrinkable like the one at Embers. I ordered a cocktail instead, since there was no other red wine on the List that appealed to me. The wait-person also advised me that Merlot was not a popular wine with their customers, so that’s why there was nil choice when ordering Merlot by the glass. I was also promptly told that I would not be credited for the wine that I ordered but did not consume if their wine-taster decided the wine was okay. I decided to go along with whatever their decision was, all the time feeling that I was being spoken down to in a loud and unfriendly manner by the waitperson. The verdict of their wine-taster was that the Merlot was not up to standard and therefore I was not charged for it. Would I return there again? Definitely not. My experience there was not a pleasant one and therefore it would be foolish of me to go back for seconds! But all is not lost – we bought a takeaway pie, sausage roll and a cake from the Patisserie next door, also owned by Embers, and I am happy to report that they were of a high standard, delicious and the service was great. We look forward to lunching at the Patisserie next door soon.More
Went here for lunch on a Thursday and was glad we booked. The place was very busy. I assumed that it meant we would have to wait... I was wrong. Our meal came quickly, much to our surprise. The staff were very pleasant and quick....They took our order and were all smiles and very friendly. We started with an excellent bruscetta with feta to share and our mains were a Duck a'l'orange and a warm beef salad. The meals were amazing and the flavours were perfect. The sizes were great too with both meals leaving you wanting for nothing. I am a big eater and se could have left it there and be satisfied, but I saw a chocolate mousse on the menu and wanted to try that, so we shared one and it was divine. Masserated strawberries were served on top and it was amazing. I forgot to take photos, but do yourself a favour and go out of your way to try Embers. The whole lot cost about 120AUD, which considering I didn't need to eat dinner afterwards due to the generous portions was extremely reasonable given the quality of food and service. Highly recommended!More
We are locals who have recommended friends to dine there- thought we would re-aquaint. We ordered no italian food from the menu- the micro waved heat was notice able in entre and main Expect some with kitchens these days but food was tired and not...fresh Was ok. The place was packed. We must have ordered the wrong choice. Left early MikeMore
I had the lamb Ragu and my husband had the pork ribs they where both 10/10 I needed to role out of the restaurant. The service was amazing lovely girls we will rave to our friends and family on where to come for our next...family gathering thank you.More
I took my partner here for a birthday meal, he ordered fillet mignon, it arrived covered in sauce. It was only a cm thick, I asked the waiter if he had been served a scotch fillet by mistake, to be told that the chef butterflies...it to cook quicker as they are so busy! He ordered medium rare, so that doesn’t take long at all. I’ve never in my life heard of butterflying a fillet. I left it at that as it was his birthday and didn’t want to make a fuss. I had the duck a la orange, no taste of grand marnier, let alone orange. Very disappointed as Embers was recommended to us, we were in the area for a weekend break, so had to go on recommendations.More
Best menu, food and service we have enjoyed in a very long time. The lemongrass beef cheeks and seafood chowder were yum! Thank you.
This is the place when you're in the mood for good italian fare. The food melts in your mouth and you can't not eat. Be prepared though..........you may roll out afterwards.
Excellent choice on the menu. We were 10 people and everyone loved their food. A fantastic variety. I had the Thai mussles and they were very tasty! Very generous portions. We had dessert and coffee too. Service was good but really impressed with the kitchen!...Worth a visit!More
A modest suburban location surprised with a busy and well run operation. The menu choices were varied and seemed to cater for most, the food when presented was hot and I thought, good portions. The wait staff were young but once relaxed, good fun too....- I will go again next time I visit the area.More
Great food, generous portions and absolutely delicious. I ended up going back there two days running as I enjoyed it so much.
