Been here once before and although we found it a little expensive, we tried again as the food was reasonable. We arrived to an empty place and was told by the young lady to sit where we wanted other than the reserved tables! Drinks ordered and seated wife's drink arrived but mine had just gone off so needed changing, no... More

We visited The Traven after having been walking all day in the beautiful Peak District. The Traven has a modern feel, and lovely deco. We did book in advance, and glad we did as they were turning people away. The food was lovely and well presented. We had the Sunday roast and everything was cooked well and tasted great and... More

This was recommended to us by a local at caravan site. The menu was great and had a great choice for all tastes including kids. The atmosphere was lovely too. The food was delicious, there were 8 of us and had no complaints. Service was great and left a nice amount of time in between courses. We'd highly recommend The... More

This is our "local" when we are staying in our holiday home (aka caravan!) in the area and always feel chilled out and relaxed as soon as we walk through the door. On Easter Saturday our meal for two had the potential to be impacted by 2 groups who, between them, had a lot of young children and a screamer... More

We were visiting the area and found a couple of family friendly food options in Tansley based on Trip Advisor feedback. On arrival the place looked lovely, and our starter was fine, unfortunately the main courses were really disappointing. My wife had to complain having found hair in her food, the waitress was fine about it and removed the cost... More

Hi Sorry there was a hair found on your dish, all precautions are made to ensure this does not happen. The pulled pork burger clearly states slow cooked pulled pork,at no point is a beef burger mentioned on the description,we also do a vegi burger ,again no beef burger here. More

The Tavern was busy when we called in for lunch without a reservation. After a nice and friendly reception we were told that it would be 15 to 20 minutes before they could take our order and if this was ok we were welcome to wait. After being shown to our table we sat with a drink and chose from... More

This was my first time at the tavern, I'd heard a few whispers about how good it was so I booked a lunchtime table for 7 of my family. I was very surprised how much choice there was available at lunchtime, the food was terrific and beautifully presented, the staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful, this place is an... More

Called in at 5pm on a Sunday to an empty pub (ok there were two couples eating) the board says 'food served all day!' Yay.... Asked to order food to be told 'we are full' asked if we could just order bar food and told 'its Sunday lunch only'. Pretty sure a couple walk in at that time could have... More

After some research for a local Derbyshire walk we decided on The Tavern. What a brilliant find, excellent service, food was superb. We ate in the bar area and both chose from the bar menu. Really friendly, great atmosphere. We will be back soon with the kids and dogs

Service good and staff very friendly. Average menu with usual plates on offer. Quite an odd bar with unusual decoration. I chose the scampi which was made with monk fish unfortunately the batter was very greasy so i took the fish out of the batter and that was very good.

Hello Simon w.,

I noticed your response to my negative posting regarding the very poor service we experience in you pub/ restaurant on Friday. I think you may have been misinformed by your staff, if indeed they provided you with any feedback.

In think this posting is the first really negative posting I have given in the many years I have used Tripadvisor, I do not criticise lightly.

The facts were. We arrived before 12.45 and order two drinks, a TT Landlord and a lager. I asked the barman if sandwiches were avaiable as most patrons were eating hot meals. I was told they were available but I could expect a wait of 10 or 15 minutes as the same kitchen staff prepared all food. I said we would wait as we were not in a hurry, and we sat at the table set for four between the fire and the window. There were no objections from your staff as to our choice, infact there were a number of empty tables including the long table set for 6 or people under the large wall map.

A few minutes later your waitress came over, whilst giving a nearby party's dog a plate of biscuits (the other long table under the wall map) She said it would be at least 20 or 30 minutes before she could give us a menu. We were still unconcerned by this length of delay. At no time was it mentioned by her, or the Barman that any tables had been prebooked, or our choice of table was premature or inappropriate.

I then logged onto you free wifi at 12.52 according to my phone log, accessed your website and checked out your menu. We proposed to order a Posh Fish finger sandwich, and a Tavern Club sandwich when your waitress was ready.

Just after 1.00pm my wife went to the toilet, which was down at the opposite end of the bar to the right. As she went through the narrow bar area the young family arrived and sat at the tall rough table opposite the till.

I went to the toilet, ten minutes later and passed the young family who were still sat at the rough table.

We continued to nurse our drinks, and watch the other diners eat.

At 1.30 give or take five minutes, your waitress went into the bar area and invited the young family to the empty long table under the map wall buy the fire and gave them a menu. At that point we decided to leave, I was driving and had no wish to order a further beer with a sandwich, given we had been overlooked and still had not been offered a menu.

I could have accepted the situation had we been told that service would be difficult because of prebookings. We would not have taken a table had we been asked to sit in the bar area (as I presume the young family were). The restaurant did not seem especially busy, and during our visit a number of tables were empty and remained so.

Looking at your responses given to others who have attempted to offer critisism, you feel you receive a number of false/fictitious negative postings and are sometimes dismissive of others.

I urge you to welcome all postings, especially from regular users of Tripadviser such as myself, it can only make you stronger and dare I say identify weaknesses in your business.

Regards Bob
