We had occasion to be in Stanstead while completing the process of acquiring our Global Entry status at the US Border station in Derby Line, VT. We walked across the international line after showing our passports and had lunch here, just steps from the Canadian border station. I wonder if it has a new name: Am Dejeuners & Diners. That's... Prior to catching the play at the bi-national Haskell Opera House located in Stanstead, Quebec and Derby Line, Vermont, we Americans strolled across the border for dinner. Restaurant La Vieille Douane is the first building in Canada past the customs checkpoint. "Angel Dans Le Coeur" ("Angel In The Heart") is the restaurant name per our receipt. We had a fine... More

I've eaten here once before since the management change, and the food is palatable, though nowhere near worthy of the charming building and location. On my second visit, with visiting friends from out of town, the waitstaff and proprietor chose not to offer us any service. Here's what happened: We presented at the screen door and asked if we could... More

The other reviews on this site are for the old restaurant/management. New management as of about a month ago we were told. Our dinner was delicious, and the atmosphere in the lovely old building is great. So friendly, too. Highly recommended!

Very good food, relaxed service and friendly staff and patrons. A good place to kick-back for an evening and enjoy the small town ambiance.

Stopped here for lunch on a quick trip over the border to Canada. What a lovely place to sit outside and have some nice food. The bread basket was great and the soup was very good. They do a selection of children's meals too.

We first ate at La Vieille Douane in March when we were staying in Magog with plans to play golf. The weather sucked so one day we went down to Stanstead/Rock Island to find a place for lunch. The rabbit dish was amazing and we even came back because the Créme Caramel/Brulé was still in the oven. We dropped by... More

Had a great lunch waiting for a friend to clear customs. I had a veggie panini with a salad which were both delicious.

The setting in this restaurant is amazing. The back deck overlooks the Tomifobia River as it tumbles over some very steep rapids into a deep valley. The front deck enables one to watch the unique border crossing that is central to any visit to this area. The service was attentive and friendly with fully bilingual staff. The soups we ordered...
