A Japanese restaurant that has been defined by Melbourne. Since 2015, Tokyo Tina has been the go-to for Melbourne Japanese. Inspired by the diversity of Japanese cuisine and its sub-cultures, Tina has an identity that is all her own. The menu is creative without being confused, respectful but not bound by tradition.

Great in home dining experience

Whilst we did have a mishap with the delivery, the restaurant was very prompt in rectifying the situation and ensuring we had a quality experience. We used the in home dining experience for my daughters birthday and it was great. The food came well packed, the instructions were super easy to follow and the food was all delicious. Would highly recommend trying as we get through lock down!

Superb food, great service nice venue

Three family members visited recently and we were blown away by the food. We opted for the $65.00 chefs choice and so glad we did. The sushi I Kingfish was unbelievable, the lamb roast was cooked to perfection. Really enjoyed the tomato dish and the fried chicken and Bao’s were great. We enjoyed a great array of drinks as well. What a feast to celebrate Christmas. We will be returning soon.

Cocktails and Bao

Dinner with daughter. Terrific cocktails especially one with mint, gin and yuzu. Many gluten free options and knowledgeable waitress highlighted the Karage and eggplant fried in same fryer as gluten items. Both delicious although in my view Karage could do with more ginger. The GF Bao ( first I have had in a long time) with slow roasted beef rib was delicious. Unbelievably tender.

Live snail crawling!

Here is an experience our friends had at dinner last evening. They posted this on open table but its worth a warning to anyone eating at this restaurant. "A casual Sunday night dinner turned sour very quickly. Good service to begin with, good drinks and when it came to the food- we ordered the beef bao (which was recommended to us). A bite into our bao, and we spotted a 10cent piece sized snail crawling about in the salad that we used to create our bao. That was the end of our Sunday night dinner! I am not pleased hearing that "this is happens sometimes as we use organic veg", as explained to us. Wash you salad please and avoid contamination, organic food is not an excuse. I think you guys need to revisit your council's food hygiene and safety policy and perhaps don't let it slip that these are common occurrences". Biggest regret: we did not photograph it. Too much in shock to pull out our phones!

Not great, hardly Japanese...

Not great, hardly Japanese... Food is more Vietnamese than Japanese. Grainy / hard rice, overpowering sesame oil, too much coriander and limited vegetables. Dashi broth was nice, but dish could have been so much better. Would not recommend if you are craving Japanese. Overpriced and over-rated.

Japanese with a twist

We saw this place on postcards and wanted to try it. The place did not disappoint. Firstly the service was fantastic. It seemed popular for a party or hens. The food, well all I can say is WOW. Everything we tried was amazing and it is a great take on Japanese without it being too traditional. Great cocktail list and drinks menu. I can’t wait to go back. This is a must for anyone visiting the area.

The most fun l’ve had in ages

Went to Tina’s bingo Academy for lunch with the bottomless booze. Our glasses were constantly filled and were never empty. The food was amazing and were very accommodating. The atmosphere was great, Our lovely host was an amazing lady whom kept us amused. Great fun prizes. Thankyou

Fabulous Japanese food

The food was delicious, well presented. Even though we hadn't booked, they managed to find us a table. Even thought we were on a time limit, we never felt rushed. Service was good without being intrusive. We defintely will be going back again. Loved it!

Magnificent meal- thank you Mitch

This was such a surprise. I had not chosen the venue and was worried what I could order gluten free. Mitch quickly reassured me of what I could eat, and discussed options for our banquet meal. I felt thoroughly spoilt and enjoyed every mouthful. Thank you so much Mitch

Great food and excellent service

Visited for our annual Christmas dinner and this time sat outside on a pleasant evening. The food was wonderful and we tried cocktails as well. The service was excellent and we had a most enjoyable dinner. Will be back next year.

Great affordable Japanese

We had a surprisingly good supper sitting outside by the busy Chapel St traffic. The inside of the restaurant was buzzing and packed so we were quite pleased to be outside. The food was excellent, the service helpful and friendly and there was a good choice of beer.

They have a good reputation for a reason

Tokyo Tina has had a good reputation for a long time and I was keen to try it. We sat outside on a Saturday lunchtime as it was very noisy inside with bottomless brunch bingo going on ! We were served by a lovely English girl. Food was delicious. There was plenty to choose from and good choices for vegetarians and vegans. They deserve their good reputation.

Five star prices for street food

Good vibe for catching up with friends, but seriously $85 for a set menu with very basic food is taking the pies. A stubbie of Coopers is $21…beware the surcharges as well.

Fantastic fun

We went to Tokyo Tina for their bingo bottomless lunch and had so much fun. The venue is small and intimate, and the bingo emcee Valerie Hex was entertaining and got people to participate without making anyone feel embarrassed. Thanks Val! The food was good - especially the salmon tartare and the eggplant. I hate eggplant, that's how good it was. A big thank you to the team at Tokyo Tina for giving the family a never-to-be-forgotten lunch.

Quirky restaurant on Chapel St Windsor.Loved the Japanese fusion food.Well executed and very tasty.If you are going out as a group,try the private dining room which made the night pretty special.
