Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place has been open for some years in what has become the section of famous Chapel St with the most restaurants and is undoubtedly very trendy: even though we were there on a public holiday Sunday for lunch, and it wasn't busy, it has a classy atmosphere with 'unisexy' (its words, not mine) toilets down the back (albeit one with a seat that needed fixing) and cute sayings on the mirrors, plus three booths down the back that were full and a separate full bar area.
We were greeted by a pleasant young girl (a fashion student at RMIT) of I'm guessing 19, who insisted on calling everyone 'guys' as did the later male who brought our lemon lime and bitters and a Coke, all of which at A$4 each were reasonably priced.
The Edamame was the first dish served. I liked the salt and pepper on the outside: the peas were warm and palate pleasing.
I then had fried chicken that was delicious, while my companions had nori taco (pronounced as 'filling', and also good) and prawn and ginger (emphasis on the latter) dumplings.
Serving sizes were not large but most of the food was fairly filling.
The 'music' was a low point: horrible and loud. It lacked the pleasant sounds of the '60s and '70s, and at times was not far short of ear splitting. Turn it down!
Tables were well spaced.
I assume on various nights when it's not a public holiday, one may have to book to obtain a table.
The 78 tram (North Richmond - Balaclava) is outside while route 6 (Glen Iris - Prahran - Melbourne University) is in High Street, 150 metres away. Windsor railway station, built in 1883, is also relatively close by up near Dandenong Road where there's the 5 and 64 Yarra Trams.

Food is nice if you are looking for "Japanese" fusion but not worth the price or the ridiculously loud music. Left with a sore throat after having to yell at my friend across a small table for an hour. Even in the bar at the back section the music is too loud to comfortably talk across a small table.
Staff are helpful, but cannot hear a word they are saying over the music.
Also very disappointed that food arrives in cardboard when eating in... so wasteful and unnecessary.

Love Mr Miyagi. Have been here numerous times with different groups/ social situations and it’s always been excellent. Great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. And I love the music and vibe- it feels like a night out. But I don’t think the loud music will be everyone’s cup of tea so choose your audience! (I didn’t bring my parents here)
However, I do not like that they use disposable chopsticks and serve some of the food in one use cardboard boxes.
I also don’t like that although it’s a ‘share style menu’ some of the dishes are served in 5 pieces (for example the dumplings) and we were charged extra when it was made into a 6 piece dish so we could divide it evenly.

Tasteless tacos, oily heablvily battered chicken, bang bang tuna mildly ok. Had to ask for housing sauce and soy sauce to add any taste to everything. Atmosphere and looks great, service fine, 25 years in restaurants and I would release the main hostess in a second...A Tit tuud. Not welcoming, bring their personalities to work...back to the rules book guys..clients are right and first. Food isn't good. Clean and fresh no doubt, but tasteless.

Wow, what a surprise to see the menu on offer. We chose the hand made roll, the panko prawn dawg, the nori taco's, one with salmon and the other eggplant. They were all excellent and very flavorsome. The only downside was the service. Very rushed! We arrived and as they were taking us to our table asked if we would like tap or sparkling water. I said tap. Then if we wanted edamame. This was all before we sat down. Every time we finished something, they hounded us for another order, even when I said we wanted that food to settle before ordering more. It was very rushed and seemed they just wanted to get us out of there so they could get more in. Their excuse the last time was it may take 15 mins for the food to come out. Everything came out in less then 5 mins. We would like to eat there again, but wish the service was a bit more relaxed.

Have been wanting to go for so long and the place is so busy which seemed promising but perhaps people have just believed the hype and not their tastebuds because there was nothing special about this food.
Pros: The service was relaxed, fun and friendly, good atmosphere, good bar at the back whilst you wait for your table, salmon taco was delicious.
Cons: all other dishes were boring especially the prawn and ginger dumplings, no wow factor at all. Also they are very irresponsible with each taco coming in a disposable paper tray, one-use chopsticks and paper menus. Can’t even imagine the amount of unnecessary waste this place produces.
It’s Melbourne, there is no time for mediocre restaurants, go elsewhere.

I had a booth since I had a party of 6. This also meant it was a fixed menu. The salmon taco was the only good dish, the other dishes were average. Serves were not large. The king fish on curry sauce was not good, you don't get to taste the king fish its masked by the curry. The beef was below average; think slices of beef with a bit of pickle onions.

Firstly love the music and upbeat energy from the staff/ waiters here. Must try the Tafu bao here! Also loved the buffalo ricotta with the tempura broccoli. Another favourite here was the pork sliders and the miyagi fried chicken.

I have visited a few times and love this place. Recently went for a birthday, service was perfect, food was absolutely outstanding, it was my mums birthday and they organised a birthday surprise which was so lovely. Massive thanks to our host for the night, I think her name was Kate, she was delightful. We will be back.

This seemed an interesting, lively place to eat, so visited with 2 friends. Long wait at the entrance to be acknowledged and eventually shown a table - to wait and wait and wait for any form of service. Eventually orders were taken, but food arrived in a haphazard fashion with no logic to the arrival. One main course order was completely forgotten and the wait staff could not have cared less. Eventually it arrived, together with bad attitude. The food was interesting and quite good but not enough to offset the worst service ever encountered anywhere in the world. Think very carefully before you go here. We will never return.

Having eaten at Mr Miyagi a number of times over the last 10 years, I’m sorry to say that my recent lunch there was only ok at best. My favourite dish has always been the broccoli but this time around it was soggy with oil and tasteless. Chicken and other dishes were just ok too. I was planning to bring my family with me in May to celebrate a milestone birthday but will be looking elsewhere now. Sorry Mr M

What an a amazing experience! From the minute we were greeted by the gorgeous and friendly host we were so well looked after. You can see these guys really love working with each other, the love in the place and seamless way the staff just did their thing was amazing to say the least. The food! Well as I said to the beautiful hosts as we left was just one word ‘WOW’
Anthony was our waiter and he was fantastic, attentive without being in your face, relaxed without having to be summoned and a really funny and nice guy. The gorgeous host who looked gate us at Yukies(sorry didn’t get her name) was as equally a amazing.
It was my maiden voyage but let me tell you that every time I head to Melbourne I’ll be going here for at least 1 dinner.
Thank you so much guys!

Disappointed! I used to frequent this restaurant 5 years ago and love it so when I was in town I was excited to go back. We were really disappointed. They need to pick up their game as the menu is tired and dating. Wasn’t thrilled with anything I ate.
Staff were friendly but also inattentive, we ordered a bottle of Veuve champagne and it sat on our table and we poured it ourselves. Idk, I’d expect that from somewhere where I BYO a wine but not here. Unfortunately wouldn’t return or recommend anymore.

Wow! An early dinner after a crazy week. Staff amazingly attentive. Can highly recommend the Schnitty Bao, the Tempura Broccoli, MFC - Miyagi Fried Chicken, and Edamame. All absolutely delicious. What a range of cocktails. We will dine again - there is so much to try.

Had been waiting to go to this restaurant for 2 years ( covid ) and I was not disappointed.
The food was amazing, I had Miso Mushie Bao and they were little pillows of heaven, delightful.
Then the Tempura Brocolli, I could eat that everyday. Followed by the Shiitake Dumplings, also delicious.
My friends had prawn and chicken dishes that they said were delicious also.
Last and not least the cocktails, want to go back and try all of them.
A fabulous evening with friends, wonderful food and great service.
I will definitely be going back.
