Told the staff i was vegan and allergic to egg/dairy. I asked the waitor twice if he was sure that the food i wanted to order was vegan and without dairy/egg. I was given egg noodles and roti bread that had been cooked in butter....If i had a drink before i probably would of been in hospital. Good thing i figured it out before i put it in my mouth. Staff who made the mistake didnt appologise, owner didnt even ask me what i wanted he just placed an undercooked meal infront of my face and wanted me to pay for it. Cant say they will do better next time, i think they just found me to be irritating or a joke of somesort. Wouldnt recommend.More
Best Vietnamese restaurant in Australia , went in on a Monday night sat inside it was packed ordered the crispy duck soup, amazing portion size for 18 bucks, fast service and fresh and tasty, they bring water over could probably offer drinks but I think...it was too busy for them anyway I loved it.More
My mom and I briefly visited Melbourne in Feb 2020. We are glad we found this restaurant. Their food is amazing !! We are both Vietnamese. My mom is a good cook and even she ran out of compliments for this restaurant. We tried many...dishes, from the stir-fried noodle, Pho, Lambs, to their cocktails and everything was delicious and plentiful. For our 4-day visit in Melbourne, we ended up coming here 3 times ! Seriously, you have to try this place out !More
Just beautiful! My mum and I ate here a few days ago, on one of those boiling 40 degree days. We wanted something light and tasty, so we ordered salads and some crispy boned duck to share. I got the chicken laab and my mum...got the soft shell crab salad. Both were amazing. We were blown away by the flavours and the freshness of the food. I would have licked the plate if I could have. Such good value too. Will definitely be back!More
Absolutely delicious!! We had the vermicelli noodle bowl and it was packed with veg and crunchy goodness, and a fantastic bar ! Will be back!
Incredible food, we had an open banquet for about 15 people, was a really good way to taste the menu here. The food kept coming until we couldn't eat any more, letting the Chef select the options. So tasty and fresh, just delicious! There's plenty...to choose from at the bar as wellMore
Liked the modern look and ambience of this restaurant, so thought we would give it a try. Happy hour - bonus! Sadly most of the food - bogus! The only worthy item which was good was the entree bao! The prawn entree for $14 was...one of the biggest ripoffs. Two grilled small old prawns on a skewer with a bit of lettuce. I complained to the manager at the end but he couldn’t care less. The Kway Teow was oily, sloppy and overpriced and the Pork Belly Claypot which we were told as one of their specialities, was very average. $100 bill at the end - overpriced, especially since we had a bad MSG hangover the next day! Steer clear. Won’t ever recommend this place - don’t be fooled by the happy hour!More
We went without a reservation on Saturday night and were extremely pleased with New Wind. The draught beer is very reasonably priced and ice cold. I spend most of my year in Vietnam and—very surprisingly—the pho here was the best I've had in Melbourne—better even...than what you'll find in Footscray and Richmond. And try the bo lá lốt (beef wrapped in betel leaf). A rare find even in Vietnam, and delicious here.More
You can't go wrong with some cheap Vietnamese with friends and a glass of wine. New Wind sits at the foodie end of Chapel Street, Windsor. The food is decent, not ground-breaking or particularly memorable, but it does the job with a lot of Vietnamese...dishes to select from. You can't go past a rare-beef pho!More
Went on a Thursday night and restaurant was half full so not busy, ordered Bao’s for starters and had to wait to 35 minutes, that’s right 35 minutes. Asked specifically not to bring all main dishes at once and since the Bao’s were delayed then...it was never going to end good. It was Like talking to a brick wall. What really got me upset was one of the Vietnamese waiters thought by simply smiling would solve all the issues. Expensive, crap service and not even recognition to say sorry. Well sorry, I’ll never be back again. However must admit the food was very nice, but there is more than just good food.More
Gorgeous casual dining on chapel street which also has seating out the front. The large menu has authentic Vietnamese dishes plus some Thai fusion and desserts. The meals area a good size, delicious dishes and super sweet, helpful staff. Plus cocktails are $10 during happy...hourMore
My boyfriend and I turned up on a Saturday night on chapel street which is peek hour for most restaurants looking for a casual bite to eat. The restaurants we wanted to dine at had a minimum wait of 30mins. We were starving! So I...looked at New Wind from across the road and could see the restaurant had been refurbished since I’d been there last which was a few years back and I could see it also had a few spare tables. So we decided to try it. We ordered clearly more than we could chew and really couldn’t fault any of the food. It was scrumptious with fresh explosions of flavor. Staff were attentive and “happy hour” appeared to be on the menu most of the evening. We now frequent this restaurant at least once a week. Reasonably priced, great food and good serviceMore
We have been here a couple of times, the last time there were problems but decided to try again. Mistake!! They brought out one meal way before the others, I told them that I thought it wad wrong but they said no. In the end...I ate my 'vegetarian' curry and when I got towards the end, found meat in it! Other meals were ok... wouldn't rush back.More
Great food and excellent value. The friendly staff really made the night. The highlight was the chef getting on the piano at the end of the night and playing requests - a night to remember for all the right reasons.
