We had reserved a table for six and all of us enjoyed evrything we ate, the food was good, and the wine was good, but the service was somewhat disorganized.

We ate lunch here on a cool grey day in Cassis. Friends who live locally had recommended the Bouillabaise. On this particular day it was by far the busiest place on this strip of restuarants. We sat outside and most of the tables inside and out were occupied, it would appear that lots of locals like this place. My husband... More

One of the lady’s at the hotel recommended that we go to dinner at Chez Gilbert, which was a short walk away along the waterfront. We managed to get a table inside as they were very busy. This place was excellent. We were given little seafood cocktails from the chef to begin. Then my husband had the scallops, which looked... More

Chez gilbert was recommended by our B&B mine host. The menu display board outside is lit by very high intensity LED lighting which on the white background of the displayed menu resulted in a harsh, hard to view menu. This is a harbour front restaurant with interior and exterior seating. We were offered the interior as outside was full -... More

Sadly most of the food in the South of France seems unable to move on from the 1970's. However Chez Gilbert not only serves extremely mediocre food but the service is so arrogant that it leaves you breathless. We ordered turbot - it was not turbot but some un-named white fillet of fish stuffed with pureed carrot (not mentioned on... More

If you are interested in the food, I would strongly recommend not eating here. The location is enticing - on the harbour side. And I think it may once have been good, but the food is not now any good at all, in my view. I am very surprised it is being so well reviewed by others. The hake reminded... More

Nice place, but u better practice your french... Strange for a city like cassis, but they don t have a translator for the menu. Beside that, good food, location, but no AC inside...

We ate here on our last night of 3. Our best meal. The Amuse Bouche was amazing, an escargot in a tomato sauce. We both had "Daurade" (Sea Bream) was very good, unfortunately there were a lot of bones. Dessert was OK. Service was also good. Too bad the French still smoke so much, with our tables 6 inches apart... More

Want to know what it felt like to dine in France as an American 30 years ago? Want to reserve a table outside over the phone and then be sat inside (don't worry, it still comes with a view of the empty seats outside)? Want to be stonewalled by your waiter while asking if he would mind seating you at... More
