It's an authentic Indian restaurant with great ambience and polite staff. The interiors are well done up with beautiful ceiling to floor wall prints of Indian women in tradition festival attire and figurines and statuettes of folksy Indians. Indian music plays in the background while you enjoy your food.
The menun is vast, the focus is clearly on non-vegetarian fare with pages and pages of dishes. There are a handful of vegetarian dishes, but the Aloo Gobhi Adraki did not disappoint. The Shahi Paneer was sweet, as warned by the steward but the children enjoyed it nevertheless. I have to comment on the quality of paneer, it was impeccable. Probably made in-house, fresh. The onion bhaji and paneer pakoda were good too. The in-house chutney, something with yoghurt and coriander was amazing. Garlic Naan was also done well.
Overall, we were happy with our meal, although it was kind of a dampener to see very little and standard vegetarian fare on offer.

We were 4 people who came to a stylish and pretty venue in Indian style, the venue is airy, spacious and it is not too cramped between the tables.
The waiters are very pleasant and service minded. We ordered white wine with the food and they kept an eye on us the whole time so they could come to the table to fill our glasses when they were empty, the same with the rice for the food, when it was empty they came to ask us if we needed refill. We ordered Chicken Tika Masala, Butter Chiken and Kandhari Lamb Tikka, (which is pomegranate marinated lamb with Tandori sauce). And of course garlic Nan bread, with mango chutney as a side dish. While we wait for the food, we get papadum with accompanying dressing and a cucumber/mint mix. The food we were served was very good, rich in flavor and taste. It didn't take too long for the food to arrive on the table either.
For dessert we ordered Banana split, Mango ice cream and Irish Coffee, I can say with my hand on my heart that this was the best Irish Coffee i have tasted so far, absolutely delicious. I would certainly recommend others to visit India Gate in Leirvik. ☆They get 5/6 stars with us☆.

One of the few restaurants on Stord that serves really good food. We have been visiting this place regularly for years now and we are always amazed at how friendly the service is and how good the food tastes. The restaurant is decorated in an authentic Indian style, Indian music is playing and it smells of Indian spices and food as soon as you enter. For us, the menu offers a very good selection of different Indian dishes. We had samundri ratan as a starter, it was very tasty and perfectly fried and had a wonderful sauce to go with it. For our main course we ordered paneer butter masala and chicken tikka masala but with paneer instead of the chicken. Both dishes were excellent. If you are on Stord, we can only recommend this restaurant.

Had high hopes as we have been satisfied with India Gate in Bergen/Haugesund. Here, however, we were served very poor food. Thought you should be able to run the same standard as their other restaurants. The tandori sauce tasted bad. The Nan bread was chewy and tasted more like dough than bread. And was served duck which was like chewing on a eraser. Sorry to say that. This was a really bad food experience.

First, I have to brag about India Gate in Leirvik. Absolutely fantastic food and service.
Last Sunday I thought I should order something a little hot. Then I ordered prawns vindaloo... it was insanely good and strong, but my vision became completely hazy because of the tears and I had zero control over the snot shaft which just ran and ran. Certainly a nice sight
Over the course of the evening, I could point to the stomach where in the intestinal system the last meal was, a feeling of heat spreading.
It was only on Monday that the vindaloo arrived at its terminus about 10 times in the course of 3 hours. Not going to go into details, but the inventor of shaved ice deserves an award. 👍😊
Today I order the same, only "Madras" style. Just as well, and one can still work at work tomorrow morning, I bet.
For those who like strong food, I can give a couple of pieces of advice as follows;
Tindaloo - You want to go home in a coffin
Vindaloo - Very strong, but the caviar cross is like a meatloaf.

First visit to the restaurant. Cozy restaurant in the center of Leirvik. The food was very good, delivered on a hot plate. The quality of the food was impeccable. We read that you can order food that is stronger in taste if you want. Good and steady service from the waiter. The price was also good. There was an offer for a buffet this Sunday. We chose the menu. Lots of visitors when we were there.

Best Indian food in Norway!! Service is 10/10. Lovely group. Food is idyllic. Strongly recommended. Location is very good. Centrally located in Leirvik. Very large portions. You can't leave a restaurant and be hungry 😅

Not impressed, but good food and good service. Ordered strong food but tasted like it bathed in cream, no strength but ok taste. The service is slow to bring drinks to the tables.

India Gate in Leirvik at the island of Stord is simply the best indian restaurant at the west coast of Norway, exellent tasty food! Yesterday i had a strong version of the dish chicken vindaloo and the fire alarm got activated when the dish was served.
Relax, everything was under control and this restaurant is hghly recommended!

Good Indian food and takeaway. I Tried a lamb vindaloo and it was quite spicy, unlike most Indian curries in Norway, which are made bland to suit local tastes.
