Fabulous country pub with a wonderful atmosphere. Menu offers such a great variety and food is delicious and well presented. Wine is way over priced as seems the norm in pubs these days , considering the location in a wine region . Wasn't aware of a Sunday surcharge so a big surprise! Went with family and friends who all enjoyed their meals, staff are very attentive.

My first mistake was thinking this was a pub, it’s actually just an expensive restaurant in a back woods town. The food was very nice, the panko mushrooms were really tasty, the tempura fish & pork belly were delicious. The dessert was embarrassingly small but nice Serving sizes was on the larger side of average but the price was expensive and on this I will look elsewhere in future. Basically over $100 a person was not justified

Easily the best pub I have ever been to - ambience is breathtaking and you know you're somewhere special the minute you enter the door. Bar staff are great and know their stuff. Wait staff are possibly the best I've experienced - they're friendly and helpful and a little playful at times, which is always a bonus. The food is absolutely exquisite ... it's not your usual bar fare which is why it is so startling good. Quite often the owner and chef extraordinaire, Sally Wright, will be around offering you warm welcomes and lots of giggles. A must do if you visit Beechworth or Stanley! 5 stars plus!

A friend recommended it to us, obviously through word of mouth. A worthy visit and we loved it. As you entered the restaurant part of the pub, wow, it is something you don’t expect in a very small country town. With only a small general store attached to it, it is definitely a must visit if you love Asian inspired food, just something you don’t expect in a pub… you will be disappointed if you go there for a normal pub menu. This is miles better… apparently the menu is seasonal. Thai and Japanese inspired. Must book especially on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, closed on Monday and Tuesday and only open for lunch on Wednesday. Indoor and outdoor seating. We will be back. Great selection of wines too.

Service was excellent but that is where it ended. Since the refurbishment I will not be attending the Stanley hotel again. It was incredibly expensive incredibly loud and the food on the plate was incredibly small. Conversation was almost impossible. The music was turned down on request but soon back to too loud. 24 dollars for four small dumplings is expensive.. The food and the interior all looked pretty but for the money missing from our wallets at the end of the meal it was definitely not worth it. We considered what we had ordered as a meal to be no more than a snack and for $60 each we'll go somewhere else.

I last visited the Stanley Pub with family and friends for my birthday celebrations 10 years ago and we had a fabulous time which included lots of positive interaction with the staff. We were back in the area for the first time in years and decided to try the Pub again. The layout had changed, the staff were okay but our serving person gave the impression that she would like yo be somewhere else, while the food was mostly excellent. We started with shared fried Cauliflower Balls and my partner found the garlic to be overpowering and left most of the balls to me to consume. I also found the garlic taste strong but still edible. For mains I had the Red Duck Curry which was superb. Great ingredients, great taste and a shame when it was finished. My partner had the Tempura Fish which she thought was quite nice, although a touch too salty. The wines by the glass were delicious and we enjoyed the piccolo coffees to finish the meal.

What a local gem, but were so disappointed with the whole experience.Firstly, the bar staff were not friendly, seemed stressed and not sure what they were doing., made us feel uncomfortable. Secondly, the menu is awful - why would you do an "Asian fusion" menu in a local country pub??? Ridiculous. The food is not up to standard, is slapped together and dumped on the plate, there is nothing special about it at all. It is not hard to put together a simple menu that reflects the area that will suit the majority of people. Will not be coming back, and if the owners, would seriously look at changing the menu and having a word with the staff about having a more friendly demeanour.

Hi X4795JQanitar, Thanks so much for your feedback..Yes the first of January was a crazy one for us given we have never been open on a New Years Day before and we had no clue of what to expect so we all were a bit under the pump when we got so busy:-) Yeah we will know for next year and be ready to rock! We decided to offer something different to our local area as we already have quite a decent fistful of great local pubs all serving tasty country pub fare and so far this simple offering of local produce done with a bit of an Asian influence has served us well. Hopefully we will see you again:-)

Disgraceful attitude from the waitress. Starters came (3) mushrooms burnt. One vegetarian in our family, waitress had already shouted at the kitchen about our vegetarian order then whilst delivering our starter asked if it was ok to add miso to the main, advised no do not like miso taste. She went to the kitchen and shouted at the top of her voice “NO THEY DON’T WANT THAT”. The whole pub heard it, I was so upset we had to leave.

I asked for chicken curry and was told chicken was 'on its way but had not arrived'. Food was ordinary and looked as though it had been thrown together instead of being arranged attractively on the plates. One member of our group had fish and chips. The fish was the size of a playing card. We were told there was no coffee machine so instant coffee or plunger coffee only. I asked for hot chocolate and was given a cup of water with a spoon of cocoa in it. Overpriced and unacceptable. Believe the pub changed ownership 6 months ago and has gone from being good quality to this!

Being a wet day was an excuse for my wife, son and I to go out for lunch. We had heard good reviews on the place and we were not disappointed! The meals were first class with portion sizes very generous and flavours worthy of a top rated Restuarant. Prices were quite reasonable. The service was pleasant and prompt and very attentive. Good range of drinks available. Would highly recommend and will be back. Well done guysđź‘Ź

From the rusting tin roof to the delightful interior this is a country gem. The pub food is a gourmet experience - light, fresh and wonderful flavour combinations. Warm inside and attentive staff with a great wine list and non alcoholic choices for drivers. I will travel back just to come to the Stanley Pub again.

Interesting attempt at something different at Stanley. Went for non Asian inspired meal & meals were small & overpriced although side salad was excellent. Staff not that friendly so as mentioned by others it could be a problem for them. At the present not really recommended but hopefully improves as the concept is to be encouraged.

Enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner for 2 in the main dining room. An interesting menu with enough options for most diners. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was efficient, but not warm or overly welcoming. This struck me as odd given the isolated location of the Hotel. Having eaten there a few times before we noted the inconsistency in waiting staff to be an issue not only here but in the North East generally. The Stanley is well worth a visit; the food is great and the venue has plenty of charm. Just don't expect too much 'how do you do' from the staff.

I experienced a lovely Autumn afternoon sesh and meal at this pub a couple of years ago so it was a no brainer to include a refuel stop for lunch on our recent hiking group walk from Buckland Gap (10kms over the hills through the Stanley Forest). How disappointing! We timed our arrival with the bar opening time of 11.30am. Not open. Lunch is from noon and it was noon before we could get an ale & order lunch. Remember we just hiked 10kms across the state forest! I’m not sure who the ginger face fuzzed guy who served us is? Manager? Owner? Staff? He was rude, indifferent and made us feel unwelcome. After ordering we returned to the beer garden. Comparing with my previous visit to the pub, the garden and outdoor furnishings were in very poor, neglected condition. Our meals arrived. We all chose lamb burger. It was ok but lacking seasoning and frankly a bit truck stop! As a B&B owner here’s my advice: don’t work in hospitality if you don’t like people, don’t come to work late then treat customers like an inconvenience. Remember to smile! it’s free and when there is ugliness around you, you will shine regardless, making others feel good. We trudged on returning another 9kms via Murmungee Lookout still shaking our heads in disappointment. We will picnic at Clark’s Corner picnic area next time.

One of our party had heard good things about this pub bistro and I’m so glad she booked us in. It’s a real destination place - but we were lucky enough to be staying nearby. It’s located in a gorgeous little village with beautiful ok’d homes and gardens. It’s worth a stroll before or after dinner. The pub itself is a lovely very old building. The welcome from our host was warm and genuine. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection (rare as I requested) and served with an amazing cauliflower dish. Great value for money. I couldn’t finish mine it was so big but I certainly gave it a good go. I will definitely book here again when I am in the area.
