La Badia
Review
About
The scenario is the old medieval town of Ficarra , the historical part , rich in churches , palaces , portals , cobbled often hidden in a maze of narrow and charming streets passable only on foot . And right in the heart of the country there is the restaurant of the Badia Nuccio and Roberto with a menu of dishes suggested by the most authentic and genuine Sicilian cuisine and nebroidea , prepared with the knowledge and mastery of one and accompanied by a wine list that includes fine and prestigious labels . The kitchen is presented to attach particular importance to the sophistication and elegance of the dishes , in a riot of flavors and fragrances designed to satisfy even the most discerning palate .

After taking a tour of these wonderful towns in Sicily I found this restaurant in Ficarra. The location is very beautiful, a corner of antiquity with tables outside where there is a very suggestive open ancient church. As for the dishes, I found them excellent from the starter to the meat and the most astonishing thing in this sea of culinary mediocrity, the honest price for the service, even the attentive and friendly one. I recommend the experience for a special and tasteful dinner. We also tried the house wine, which I never take, really good. Compliments to the staff

Wonderful outdoor setting n the Piazza Monastero in medieval village. Dinner with friends - a large selection of anti pasti hot and cold- say when you have had enough. It’s the place to have meat- well cut and tender as you wish. Wines ok. Service could be a bit smarter, hence 4 circles. Worth a visit whilst exploring the village. And worth the 30 minute trip if staying in Capo d'Orlando region.

Never disappoints. I return every time with pleasure because the location is beautiful, good food and courteous staff. Prices are average. No negative note for this nice place that also helps to enhance the village of Ficarra.

Is this the best restaurant I've ever eaten in? Probably.
The location is stunning. A church on the grounds? Why not.
Even though we spoke no Italian we still managed to order the most magnificent food from the poor waiters who couldn't understand a word we said!! And what waiters....So nice, so friendly and so professional.
The food here is to die for. No menu so you pretty much get what's going, and there's only one place it's going and that's in your belly!!
So good that we came back a second night. It may have been a 30 minute drive but I would have driven twice that and more.
If you get a chance then come early and explore the beautiful little village of ficarra first.

This is a fine restaurant a cut above most restaurants that we have visited in Sicily. Not to put down in any way the restaurants that I am referring to as "most". We have been visiting Sicily very regularly for the past 8 years and we have visited a considerable variety of restaurants. La Badia is clearly one of the best we have ever been to and we have included it to be one of our favourites. We were a party of 6 and as is common in Sicily we left choice completely in their hands, leaving option for the mains open since it is usually too much food by the time one gets to these. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

We arrived in Ficarra through the mountain route early evening (August/Sept) Spectacular views but a long haul.
We wandered around and found La Badia by chance really. We were too tired to even look at the menu. My husband just said to the owner - just meat and wine please. A while later the most wonderful, memorable, sumptious steak was presented with a stonking bottle of wonderful local wine, potatoes baked in the oven with herbs. Simple, delicious, memorable, perfection! To the owner- Thank You. We probably won't find ourselves up in Ficarra again due to the distances for us, but I know we will always remember that meal! Excellent value as well. Thank you. (UK )

Fantastic! You made our engagement very special. Despite our poor efforts at speaking Italian your customer service was spectacular. The food was the best we had whilst in Sicily for 2 weeks and we were amazed at such affordable prices! So many different dishes and flavours. The surroundings of the restaurant were very scenic and beautiful in such a quaint little village in the mountains. We can’t wait to pay the restaurant another visit if we return to Sicily! Thank you

We visited La Badia on a sundaynight as a couple. The town where La Badia is located is not touristy at all, hardly anyone speaks English. If you’re up for the Italian / Sicilian experience you should visit the place!
The concept of the restaurant was easy: one menu with a lot of courses. After the appetizer and prestarter, we arrived at the antipasti. And this was one of the most interesting dinner experiences I had, because the food kept coming. I think we got around 10 different dishes, all in portions of two. To us, it did not feel quite OK to send more then half of it back to the kitchen. My pregnant wife (who does not want to eat raw meat due to her pregnancy) had to skip many of those antipasti, because, though I like to eat, 10 dishes was way too much for me. So we ended up sending many of the antipasti back, simply because it was too much. This seemed business as usual, but felt like a big waste of good food.
After this challenge, we arrived at the primi and secundi courses, but only had room left for a primi due to the amount of food we got presented as antipasti.
After all, the quality of the food was very good. The price is very low and the restaurant is really nice. But this whole concept of blowing your guests away with many dishes felt weird. It could very well be that we did not understand this concept properly, or there was a miscommunication, but this was both caused by the fact that the waiter did not speak English very well, so there was no real communication.
So, we left with mixed feelings. Good food, OKish service, but the overflow of antipasti felt like wasting a lot of good food, simply because it was too much for two people.

A hidden gem, both the town of Ficarra and the restaurant La Badia. The town is worth a trip in itself, walk around and enjoy the old town, it's view and especially the magical vista from the remains of the 11th century monastery. Add to that the dining experience at La Badia. Excellent service and ambiance. But as should be, the food is still the main attraction. We got served an array of antipasti with the best the region has to offer. After we were so full we had to share a secondo and dessert. Excellent also. Got a glimpse of the pastas of other tables and you could tell they were delicious. So just go if you get a chance! Walk around town and work up a serious appetite and then enjoy a true Sicilian eating experience in every sense and in the way most imagine it to be. Do book a table in advance and don't hesitate to enjoy their excellent winelist. Thank you to La Badia and Ficarra for great memories and anniversary dinner! Best regards G&F
P.S don't miss out on the little Badia Chappell opposite the restaurant.

This was the best meal we had in Sicily in our 4 day trip there. We really enjoyed the variety and quality of antipasti and also the main course (meats), we skipped primi. All produce was fresh, the funghi were super good and the meat exquisite. Ficarra (or this part of Sicily) is worth visiting just for this restaurant alone!

It was a great experience to visit La Badia - great food and perfect service - and reasonably priced.
The antipasti was very delicious and the pasta dish was great.
They also offered to prepare special dishes for our children (7 and 10 yrs)
It is definitely not the last time we'll visit this restaurant

We visited La Badia for a birthday function and had one of the most memorable meals in years. The alfresco area is incredible on summer nights with the small church a unique backdrop to the dining experience.
The menu is a very impressive selection of meat and seafood dishes you would normally find in a large city restaurant. The wine list is also extensive with many local Sicilian wines to choose from.
The service is also excellent with one of the partners looking after the kitchen and the other the restaurant so you know there's someone looking after your every need.
A great restaurant in a great location will be your reward for making the trip to visit this beautiful mountain top village.
