We had been here for dinner about 30 years ago and wondered if we would find the same quality again. We did! The pleasure starts when you walk into the restaurant; great atmosphere and a feeling of almost being in a museum. The food is still top quality and the wine list just goes on and on. We ended up... Der Finsterwirt is a very good restaurant, nested in a small alley (Domgasse) near the Domplatz. The vintage decor is particularly nice and transports you to an bygone era. Good service, traditional food with some modern touches, impressive wine selection. Prices are reasonable for the quality and overall experience. Highly recommended.

The Finsterwirt is a full restaurant, but at the time of day I visited, it was doing most of its business serving coffees and tasty pastries. It was a busy day, as a ceremony re the anniversary of the Republic of Italy had just finished - a good bit of the town came out for it, and as the ceremony... More

We came across this restaurant by chance and never regretted - the food was exceptional, with a lot of specialty dishes based on local products, and the service very attentive. The restaurant has been serving the clients since 1870, and belongs to the family Mayr.

This is a kind of place that you can pick up for a special occasion or to take business partners to. For a start, the ambience is wonderful. Restaurant is situated in an old house, stone-throw from the main town square and the famous cathedral. Everything is full of character: high-celling rooms, wooden pannelling on the walls and old carved... More

In the restaurant ( not the very nice winebar on ground level) you enter another world. Back into the future day was the day before yesterday, and now I wondered how many years I was gone back into the past, late 19th century perhaps. We got a seat in the Andreas Hofer room, a well known Tyrolian freedom fighter, a... More

We climbed to second floor and entered an amazing old building with many rooms, wooden paneled walls covered in old paintings! Beautiful! Food was excellent!! Best Wiener Schnitzel of the trip! My husband had a mixed meat plate which included steak tartar...he was going to skip that, but upon tasting, we both agreed it was unbelievably good! Great evening overall!
