Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

menu clearly displays allergies, wide variety on the kids menu. Prompt on serving food, I ordered soup, It was delicious, pan fried beaded haddock, chips and tartare sauce, the haddock was light and crispy, with no grease present, that you can find in other restaurants. Tartare sauce was amazing! I thought kids were catered to very well.

My wife Ethel and friend Timmy had dinner her in Leo’s last week We found the food excellent and was served by very friendly young girls sorry did not get their names. The bar was busy and had great atmosphere We watch the GAA football on the big screen and after the game was over the owner Bartley arrange a guy to play live music he was excellent and we really enjoyed our night . Bartley the owner made sure we were looked after and other people as well Thank you Bartley for your kind hospitality and pass my thanks on to your friendly staff.

I came here a few weeks ago for the first time to see Moya Brennan and Ralph McTell perform. I've returned with my Mum for an Easter Monday dinner. It is a bit like a pilgrimage for me because as teenager I avidly followed Clannad and Steeleye Span as Folk Rock groups. This tavern does not disappoint. It is the Home of the Brennan family which evolved into the iconic award-winning band Clannad. The minute you walk through the door you receive a thousand welcomes " Cead Mile Failtè"! The staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. On a Clubeo night once a month, they feature many local musicians, a fab atmosphere and a brisk bar and food service. The menu, food and service today has been perfect. It is delicious pub food, piping hot, tasty and local produce. I whole-heartedly recommend Leo's. Come to The best known pub in Donegal and the home of Clannad. You won't be disappointed.

This is a review i don’t want to leave I have always really liked Leo’s and have always recommended to any family & friends that are visiting but today the food was terrible I was shocked it was so bad. I got a steak sandwich was meant to be a 6oz sirloin on ciabatta bread at best it was a thin piece of frying steak max 2oz on a bit of normal baguette ( that’s me being really generous photo attached) partner got a chicken stir fry the chicken was terrible either microwaved or really low grade chicken my son got a chicken curry his was the same tasted like a microwave curry. I don’t know if the kitchen has changed but this really was the worst meal Iv had that I can remember and Leo’s was always so nice. if this is the quality il not be back and il not recommend it to anyone again so many nice places to eat locally. I was not charged for the steak sandwich and rightly so and to be honest I wouldn’t pay for the stir fry or curry again such a shame used to be a real gem.

Called at Leo’s Tavern with my elderly Mum and daughter. We were greeted by Briege who was fantastic . Her attention to detail and making sure we were being looked after was first class. We had the breaded fish which was beautifully presented and tasted divine! My daughter had the noodle bowl which she thoroughly enjoyed. I love paying a visit to Leo’s when in Donegal. I certainly will be back and would highly recommend a visit.

I've wanted to come here for years, as a big fan of Clannad (and Enya as well but mainly Clannad) - this is the pub their father Leo opened in the 1960's, and the walls are decked out in memorabilia from the famous local musical heroes - posters, photos of Moya from Clannad meeting important people and the odd gold record. I was there from opening time at 4.00pm until about 11.00pm, drinking Guinness and eating a very fine meal. I had a vegetable soup which came with some very nice bread, the Malaysian curry for the main which I could have vegetarian, and after initially saying no to a dessert, I'm glad I changed my mind, as the chocolate fudge cake was outstanding. The dessert also has a helpful side-effect in clearing my palette for more Guinness. In the evening there was a 'session', of about a dozen schoolkids with violins, pipes and other instruments, singing in Gaelic. The future of Irish traditional music is in safe hands here.

Had dinner here just once while on family holiday in the area but wish we had gone there more often. One of the best places we visited for Covid measures - very good distancing of tables for indoor dining, covid certs checked and staff very professional and organised. Had a very nice meal - Mussels, prawn cocktail, chicken curry, chicken ciabatta sandwich - all very nice. Comfortable relaxing place with nice outdoor dining area too. Would recommend booking a day or two in advance at busy times as we were disappointed couldn’t get booking the first night we tried.

As vegetarians, my husband and I are used to not have many appealing meal options. However at Leo's there was a fairly good variety of options. We could not decide, so opted to share the halloumi burger and the stirfry. (The stirfry having been recommended to us by a local.) Both were delicious and you could taste the quality in the food and how it was prepared. The chef and kitchen staff are obviously dedicated to their art. The restaurant/ bar staff are all so lovely and attentive, a credit to themselves. We also had a lovely dessert, coffee and other drinks. A very enjoyable experience overall. Many thanks! Catherine

I visited Leo's Tavern as part of a group tour before going to TradFest, and this visit was mostly for the live music experience (which was truly wonderful, I might add). While definitely a bit busy (it was a cold winter's night), it made the atmosphere all the better and more lively for it. The were quite helpful and accommodating, especially since we were part of a rather large party. The food was exceptional as well, being the perfect sort of comfort food one would need on such a chilly evening. Combined with the live music, it was truly an evening to remember! I would gladly return to the tavern, should I get the chance to do so.

It is no understatement when it says that it is the best tavern-pub in Co. Donegal, especially if you are an admirer of the music created by the bands Clannad and Enya. Last Thursday, we spent a wonderful evening in Teach Leo, enjoying the delicious food (large portions), the beautiful, cozy and warm atmosphere as well as the wonderful and nostalgic decorations/photographs of the Brennan family. A key feature of the wholesome experience was the soft accompaniment of Clannad's and Enya's music, playing on the speakers. Unfortunately, we missed the opportunity to enjoy the live performances of theirs and of the different bands they host during the summer time. The staff were most welcoming and the service was excellent. If you are in Co. Donegal you have to definitely stop by Leo's tavern.

We visited the tavern as part of a cruise ship excursion into Killybegs. The bus ride took a while but, it was well worth it! The folks who run the tavern were amazing! They treated us to some traditional Irish music, a jig, some entertaining stories and good old camaraderie. It was a fantastic trip. If you’re in the area, this is one place you must stop at; I wish we’d had more time.

Had an evening meal here along with 2 other families. 6 adults and 5 children in total. We were looked after brilliantly. Reserved area was a good size. Service was excellent, children got their food very quickly which always helps as a parent. Menu was a little limited but everything was tasty . Our waitress was absolutely amazing. Totally on top of all the orders and fantastic dealing with children. Will be back again .

So overrated. We made a special point of coming here abased on its reputation. Food was terrible, certainly not freshly prepared. Music obviously aimed a tourists and very mediocre (although have the young fiddler lad is clearly very talented) it was a rather dreary evening out. I’d give it a miss next time.

My wife and I and 3 friends had dinner and a few drinks here twice on trip to Donegal. Obviously due to Covid restrictions and guidelines there was no music and atmosphere that Leo’s is known for. We still enjoyed our 2 nights here though. The food was good and very reasonably priced and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

On an excursion from our cruise ship, we drove through stunning countryside to visit Leo’s Tavern, a pub and music venue run by Enya's family. We thoroughly enjoyed our hour long visit during which we were served excellent Irish coffee and entertained with music and Irish dancing. One of Enya's brothers who greeted us told us the family history which was extremely interesting.
