Out house-hunting, we stopped here for a quick lunch on our way to the next property. We were able to park right outside. I ordered my go-to galette (savoury pancake): a "complète" . This is a cheese, ham and egg pancake. Traditionally cider is drunk...with them, so I had a "bolée" of Val de Rance dry cider (brut).The pancake was cooked as I like them, buttery and soft in the middle and crispy on the edges. I saw the cook make each one to order, from scratch. These were not heated up from a pile of pre-cooked ones, which sometimes happens. My partner chose a potato pancake, something like an Irish boxty. This was served with a side salad, and was declared filling... He chose a glass of very smooth Côtes du Rhône, our favourite red. The waiter kindly fetched the bottle to give us details as it was so smooth. I then proceeded to indulge my sweet tooth at a risk of adding to my callipygous form and chose a "café gourmand" or greedy person's coffee, which was perfect and very reasonable compared to other eateries at only 4.70. Our hostess was charming and led us to their courtyard which nestles under the historical walls of the old city and in the evening with the floodlights on, it is an absolute gem. The vegetables came from her own local garden, which were fresh and...tasty. Reasonably friendly place run by husband-and-wife team and crepes cooked to order. Plenty of choice from savoury and "froment" crepes - everything very authentic. Love sitting outside under the town ramparts, though we were literally slightly above the terrace on a gravelled area , shall...we say, is clearly a giant litter tray for their dog towards the back...If you want an authentic Brittany crepe experience then I am sure this place takes some beating, but in terms of value we thought that Aux Sabots Rouges down the road, while a different proposition, was better VFM for like-for-like spend (circa 50 euros for a family of 4 inc. drinks)More
