In 2019 we had Christmas lunch at this cafe, we enjoyed it so much we decided at some point to return for an afternoon tea. We visited in September for my birthday (only just got round to reviewing) and have to say I was left...very disappointed. Service was extremely slow, from sitting down to having the food served to us was 50 minutes. We were given a menu when we arrived and told to ‘pick a sandwich’. Afternoon tea usually comes with a selection, so I had to ask, how many could we have? Told we could have two flavours each from what was on the menu. When the tea finally arrived it looked nothing like the picture on the website on a wooden stack, brimming with lovely cakes etc. There was no chutney on the pork pies and what was served was processed ‘bought in’ type food, the quiche was cold and stodgy. The home made bread was dry. An extremely slim sliver of lemon cheesecake and banoffee pie were served as the dessert. These did appear homemade, but the toffee sauce hadn’t set on the banoffee so was runny slop and both bases were soggy and not crisp biscuit. The tea pot leaked all over the table when poured. The couple running this cafe seemed run off their feet, with not enough staff to cope. Both were extremely pleasant. However, for £20 each we definitely didn’t get value for money. This is the price you pay in a hotel not a cafe and get far superior food and service. We had a second tea a few weeks later for the same price at the Cragwood Hotel in Windermere for £19.95 each and it was absolutely superb in comparison. I’m sorry to say all this as I know they are a small business trying to make an honest living in difficult times, but I feel we didn’t get what is clearly shown as an example of the tea on their websiteMore
