In 2019 we had Christmas lunch at this cafe, we enjoyed it so much we decided at some point to return for an afternoon tea. We visited in September for my birthday (only just got round to reviewing) and have to say I was left...very disappointed. Service was extremely slow, from sitting down to having the food served to us was 50 minutes. We were given a menu when we arrived and told to ‘pick a sandwich’. Afternoon tea usually comes with a selection, so I had to ask, how many could we have? Told we could have two flavours each from what was on the menu. When the tea finally arrived it looked nothing like the picture on the website on a wooden stack, brimming with lovely cakes etc. There was no chutney on the pork pies and what was served was processed ‘bought in’ type food, the quiche was cold and stodgy. The home made bread was dry. An extremely slim sliver of lemon cheesecake and banoffee pie were served as the dessert. These did appear homemade, but the toffee sauce hadn’t set on the banoffee so was runny slop and both bases were soggy and not crisp biscuit. The tea pot leaked all over the table when poured. The couple running this cafe seemed run off their feet, with not enough staff to cope. Both were extremely pleasant. However, for £20 each we definitely didn’t get value for money. This is the price you pay in a hotel not a cafe and get far superior food and service. We had a second tea a few weeks later for the same price at the Cragwood Hotel in Windermere for £19.95 each and it was absolutely superb in comparison. I’m sorry to say all this as I know they are a small business trying to make an honest living in difficult times, but I feel we didn’t get what is clearly shown as an example of the tea on their websiteMore

Cute little cafe in a lovely woodland setting. Especially liked the coffee cabin where there is also a good gift shop. Recommend the special hot chovotopped with cream and Maltese. Felt safe re hygiene in place. Very friendly staff who also looked after our four...legged friend. Only complaint is that it closes at 4, a bit too early, as we would have liked to stop in for coffee and cakes after a days walking,More

It was four pounds for a small slice of cake. Ordered to go, took about 10 minutes for them to box it up.

We arrived just before 10 am on Friday 14th August,we were advised that cakes were still baking in the oven so food orders may be a short wait, this was fine with us as its such a beautiful calm place to sit and enjoy. The lady...serving us was so helpful and organised she took our order and explained all the new "normal" rules making us feel very at ease. Our drinks arrived quickly followed by our amazing Cumbrian breakfasts, everything cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and served with a smile. It's our second visit here, our first was way after their closing time one day when we just happened upon them,we pulled up noticed the time and were just about to leave when the lovely lady said we were welcome to take a seat and she could do drinks and cakes for us,she cleaned down a table and served us drinks and the most amazing homemade lemon cheesecake. Well worth a visit, great menu, fantastic location, welcoming service and lovely gift shop.More

We had scones , cream and coffee and the dogs were given biscuit treats and plenty of water refills. The location is amazing and lovely food. The staff were so lovely and friendly and refilled the dogs water bowls numerous times. We even had a...robin flying onto our table for crumbs. Highly recommend and fabulous choices in their menu.More

Beautiful little cafe, has a very relaxing and warm vibe in the winter and lovely summer seating outside in the warmer seasons - great pit stop after a wee cycle! Has become a local spot and honestly can not fault it! Very good range of...Vegetarian, Vegan and meat so can please everyone! The gift shop has some lovely items - will continue to return for presents! The owners are lovely and make you feel very welcome (even four legged friends are given first class service) :) (Need a face mask to order as we sat outside)More
