Dropped in for a real ale to finish off a lovely walk with friends. Looked a lovely pub and would visit again for food next time. Lovely pale ale, very welcome after the walk.

Called into Swainby off the A19 after a journey from down south. The pub itself had been recommended and I really didn't know what to expect. The menu was pretty extensive and the decor a little dated but WOW the food was good ! I'd return for the delicious hot ciabattas we ordered with salad & chips. Superb value too... More

Today we visit the black horse as we often do and thought this place goes above and beyond anywhere else we eat they always speak to the children ask if we're happy, alter the menu to suit our children's likes dislikes the food is always top quality with generous portions the view is lovely and I suppose that's why we... We went for a Sunday lunch to this lovely pub in the beautiful village of Swainby. We were on our way back from a visit to Cod Beck, which is further up the road. The pub was very busy and we had to wait a little while for our food, but it was excellent and worth the wait.

Beautiful Sunday lunch here with a great selection of meats, we had the mixed meats which were all delicious, very tender, the vegetables were cooked to perfection and were plentiful, loads of roasties and mash and extra gravy. Excellent value for money, we had 2 starters and 2 mains for £25. The staff were lovely and friendly, a really lovely... More

This isn`t about coffee or food, this is about a welcome and warmth that turned a cold winter`s day into something wonderful. We are walkers, had been striding across the magnificent hills in very low temperatures, when my husband realised he had lost, yes lost, the car key. Some walking miles later, we landed at The Black Horse Inn and... More

Nearly all the tables reserved. As a party didn't show we lucky were given their table. Starters very nice... Olives, Stilton Mushrooms, potato skins. Pork Parmos disappointing. Too much topping and couldn't taste the pork. Chips salad vegetables lovely. Would I go back?? Probably with a table reserved as it seems many do... without showing!?!?

This is a big pub. Clearly geared up for the dining out market, it has a large space for tables and seating. It probably attracts locals and visitors alike. A handy post-walk refreshment spot for walkers who have been up on the hills or walking through the countryside. Service seemed pretty good. Reasonably efficient. Didn't eat here so can't comment... Have eaten here several times in the past but not had to chance to go for 3 or 4 years, so decided to pay another visit for New Years day lunch. Booked a table as know it always gets busy. Food was as good as I remembered! I had the chicken breast with leak and stilton sauce, plenty of sauce... More
