We have visited the island so very many times over many years but Pendleton's is a restaurant that has not been on our radar. We chose it during this holiday initially because we were attending a show at Shanklin theatre and the restaurant offer food to fit in around the show times. In the end we enjoyed oureselves so much we dined there three evenings out of the seven. We booked by phone call, on line, and in person. It was such a breeze to arrange. What a fantastic place this really is. The food is cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The waiting staff are so very relaxed and attentive. The music is modern but not overbearing in volume and the atmosphere is one of bliss. We came to the island in need of a break and this restaurant was really what we needed and so unexpected. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to find top notch English food, cooked to perfection and served at such a beautiful modern location. Thank you to all of the staff.

Went to Pendleton's restaurant whilst staying in a hotel in Shanklin last week for a short break. The food, atmosphere & service was so good that we reserved a table to go back again for the evening before going home the next day.. Steve & his team make their customers feel very welcomed & are friendly, efficient whilst speaking to everyone showing their appreciation of their custom. This was certainly the best restaurant that we went to on the IOW.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The food was a perfect balance of complimenting flavours with aesthetically pleasing plating while the service was attentive and warm without being overbearing. Staff had a great knowledge of the menu, which itself has clearly been carefully constructed. Although at first glance the price point seems steeper than other restaurants in the area, realistically you’re only spending at maximum £15 more for a table of 3 adults inclusive of starters, meanwhile the quality is exponentially better. We visited while on holiday and decided to revisit the restaurant after being blown away the first time. Steve is a fantastic owner, and even remembered us which added a nicer touch, familiarity you don’t often receive at places these days. Despite not having an official kids menu at time of visit, my little boy was well looked after by all. Facilities and decor was stylish and clean. We will definitely visit again when we return to the island. Thanks for adding so much to 2 evening of our holiday Steve! From Connor, Cary, Freddy & Jeff. Photos are of; Camembert, beef bourguignon, chicken breast & king prawn linguine.

We were having a break on the Island and were staying in Shanklin, and the excellent reviews suggested Pendleton's was worth trying. Overall, the food served was really rather good, although the portions served were best described as 'modest' in size. The number of choices available on their 'Spring' menu was also modest. Nevertheless, the food served was tasty and enjoyable. The prices of some items were somewhat excessive however. For example, the 'Chef's Crumble', if freshly made on the premises as the description implies, served with ice-cream, cream, or custard, would appear to be fairly priced at £8. However, two scoops of ice-cream that have no doubt been simply scooped out of a large tub and placed in a dish was rather excessive at £6. Furthermore, there were a couple of non-food issues that affected our enjoyment of the evening. Firstly, the venue was pleasant and intimate, but this meant that the nearest table to us was quite close. This was not a problem in itself, but one of the two waiters was particularly prone to passing the time of day with customers. This is usually fine within reason, but when you are trying to have a quiet conversation with your partner and there is a guy standing with his back to you, mere inches away, talking, rather loudly, to the people seated at the adjacent table, for around 10 minutes, it is quite irritating and is most unprofessional. We left the restaurant after paying the bill and leaving a modest tip. Unfortunately, just five minutes after leaving I had to return in desperation as I experienced an extremely urgent 'call of nature' and could not have made it back to our hotel. I would just clarify that this had nothing to do with what I had just eaten, it was just one of those things that happens once in a blue moon. The restaurant was by now nearly empty, and I asked if it would be ok to quickly use their facilities. I reminded him that we had just left a few minutes earlier. Rather than being told "of course" or something similar as I had hoped for and expected, I was politely directed to the nearest public toilets! I was taken aback. I politely explained that I doubted that I could reach them in time, and even if I could have, I would prefer not to use public toilets late in the evening if at all possible. I did not even know if they were still open or had been locked up for the night. Rather begrudgingly, I was told it would be ok to use their toilet after all. Now, I appreciate that they were under no obligation to permit me to use their 'facilities' after I had left the premises, but this is an example of extremely poor customer service. A dreadful own goal. They were quite happy to take over £80 from me just ten minutes previously, but most reluctant to let me use their toilet shortly after I had left. For this reason alone we would never return.

We were recommended to visit this restaurant. It opened at 5.30 pm and we arrived at 5.50 pm There were two couples there already. We ordered drinks and placed our order of just two main courses. Meanwhile other couples arrived and placed orders for starters and whilst we were still waiting for our food their starters were delivered. At 6.35 PM we eventually received our meals. I had ordered a pork chop option with vegetables and unfortunately it was overcooked and without any sauce. Even with a serrated knife it was hard to cut. I complained and although was offered an alternative I declined due to the long wait I already had. My wife had ordered sea bass which again came without any form of sauce. The fish was nice but the whole meal, potatoes and vegetables was very dry. We were both very disappointed. In all fairness I wasn't charged for my meal but it spoiled our evening out as I came away hungry . We're on holiday and not knowing the area we were guided by reccomendation. Unfortunately we do not feel able to reccomend this restaurant to anyone after our experience.

This is a high end service restaurant serving excellent meals from a good menu selection, all cooked from fresh. The staff are attentive and friendly. Would recommend without hesitation. Advanced booking definitely necessary as it probably is the most sought after in the Shanklin village.

This was the first time my husband and I have visited this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The service was exceptional, pleasant, friendly, greeted us on arrival and our waiter was most accommodating with a couple of changes we requested due to allergens. The food was delicious, just the right size portions, freshly cooked. The atmosphere was calm, pleasant with light music in the background, so at least you could hear the conversations. Nice touch on leaving, the door was opened for you and wished a good evening. Will certainly return.

Superb restaurant with a lovely menu of delicious food and generous portions. Fairly priced. We really loved the staff here who went out of their way to make our meal pleasurable and to accommodate my friend's guide dog at a table where she would have space and not be disturbed. Really glad we went here and would come back in a heartbeat if we were ever in the area.

An absolute gem. Having dined in a number of the pubs in the Isle of Wight we were enormously fortunate to discover Pendletons in Shanklin. An attractive restaurant complemented by welcoming and friendly staff. The cuisine - innovative and utilising local produce served hot and absolutely delicious. The crazy thing was that the meal and wine cost less than a number of the chain pubs in the local area even incorporating our choice of starters, mains, dessert and wine. Cannot recommend highly enough. Rob-London

This is a highly reviewed restaurant and in many ways warrants it. The staff are great (little slow at clearing plates, but that’s nit picking). Our starters of tomato soup, whitebait and prawns (3 dishes) wear tasty and well cooked. It’s two of the main courses were the let down. I asked for medium rare steak and got very medium and the beef in the wife’s beef bouginon was dry. We think they sat a little too long between kitchen and table. We pointed this out and they offered to change the steak both my wife and I said no as we didn’t want to wait, we’re hungry and our friends had already started. Neither my wife and I finished our dishes. No deserts. The bill came, we paid (with tip) and left. At no point did the owner come and apologise to us- he was more focused on another couple in the corner table. If it had been me, I would have apologised and as a gesture, knocked £40 off the £141 bill. I also spent an additional £69 on some champers. So all in all a little disappointed. We weren’t locals so may be he didn’t care, I don’t know.

In Shanklin for a few days, we couldn’t not eat at Pendletons again. We last visited in 2021 just as covid was easing and it is still the same. Short but good menu, good service, reasonable prices and great food. We listened to other diners and it is clear that many people visit regularly. The place is small so booking is essential and is always full. Our food was well prepared and presented and was tasty and filling. Drinks are reasonably priced, I’d even say cheap when compared to other places offering the same quality of food. If anyone asks us where we can recommend to eat in Shanklin we have three answers. Pendletons is one. Great service, great food, great value.

What a breath of fresh air. We’d had a terrible meal the night before in a local hotel and just wanted something nice to eat. We weren’t disappointed. From the moment I called to book a table, Stephen was friendly and welcoming. The Mariner’s Pie was truly delicious, big chunks of freshly cooked fish in a creamy wine and tarragon’s sauce topped with creamy mashed potato and cheese and a side order of perfectly cooked fresh green beans, broccoli and peas. Mum and I were both full, but decided to share the homemade apple and pear crumble with cream and custard. The best I’ve tasted since my granny’s! All finished off with a homemade chocolate, no compulsory service charge, but why wouldn’t you want to tip such great homemade food and friendly service. We’ll be back and will recommend to friends and family. Thank you!

Spot on - really good menu with varied choices. Chicken Caesar salad starter was great, beautiful croutons and not drowned in dressing. My main course of Scarecrow Pie was so different and the additional cheese just topped it off. Hubby's mackerel pate and chicken with bubble and squeak was in his words, the best he's had in a very long while. The bonus of the night was the cheese and biscuits - £9.50, definitely enough for 2, plus the £3.50 for a large port was excellent

I'd seen a few negative reviews for this restaurant and decided to ignore them, I wish I hadn't. Although our starters were fairly nice, ordering a steak was a mistake. We asked for it to be medium rare and it came well done without an ounce of pink to it and even less flavour, it was accompanied by a grilled tomato, mushroom and mashed potato hash type mix, certainly not worth £24. We addressed this with the waitress who seemed to ignore the issue and was then surpried when we later didn't wish to pay for the uneaten meal. The owner came to us who argued how the steak was cooked and even brought it back from the kitchen to show us but in his opinion his 2 years at college, as he told us, knew more than my eye sight. His attitude was appalling and he clearly can not take constructive criticism as any good business owner should. I would not recommend this restaurant if you're visiting the island, that is if it's still open in the future. Please listen to the other negative reviews, average over-priced food with poor staff.

A lovely, small, intimate restaurant. On holiday, we wanted to celebrate our brother in laws 80th birthday and Pendletons was recommended to us. The food was tasty and nicely presented and the table was ours for the evening even though we arrived at 6.30 and they could easily have taken another booking. There was no pressure to eat up and we enjoyed a leisurely meal. We had asked if possible to have a table decoration and balloons were placed on the table and the desert was served with a candle and a rendition of ‘Happy birthday to you’ and my brother in law was given a complimentary liqueur. All in all a lovely night out and thoroughly enjoyable, thank you Pendletons.
